This is one of the most inspiring speeches I've ever heard. I love how, at the beginning, half of the audience were talking to the person next to them or scrolling through their phones but by the end of it the room was like a rock concert. It sends chills down my spine every time I watch it.

Rev Barber, a great man. Being a resident of N.C, I know he doesn't just preach the sermon, he practices the words he says!! His movement"Moral Mondays"...is just another testament to the life he wants for all of us. May God continue to bless him and his fight!

As an agnostic, I have to say, best speech ever.

I have watched this back in 2016 and felt the need to hear him and his words on love again. The compassion and the core of humanity which is to understand the pain of others and respect their words of pain is essential. I love his passion and his sincerity.

The heart has the power to connect everyone of us. That is why when this man speaks, it moves us to a place where we understand a greater truth that was here before us, and will always be. We may not know how put articulate it, but fortunately, there are those like this man that will remind us what we ought to focus on. We are more alike than different. We can move forward with the understanding that there's a lot we need to learn, and that compassion is the way forward. I'm not a religious person, becauae religion so far has shown divisions, but I would definitely go to any church where this man is preaching. May he be blessed to continue to enlight us, to choose love.

I was delayed in the train station at Newark, NJ on my first visit to the city. I was heading back to San Francisco. While stuck there for 3 hours, I happened to become engaged in conversation with two women who had never met each other. One was a young African-American (perhaps of mixed "race") with her darling little son; the other was an African-American woman of about my age (60) who was born and raised in Newark. We had a really lovely, happy, and very candid conversation -- the kind women who are total strangers will often have, but men seldom seem to. It turned out that the older woman was finishing her training in theology and was going to become a Methodist minister We shared a lot of concerns about the tragic rise of racism and sexism in this country (she said that when she grew up in Newark, people of different races "mixed" quite comfortably, so we ARE going backwards...) Anyway, I had never heard of this man, but she mentioned "NAACP" and the Democratic convention, so Ive just found him. So glad to hear him...my "tradition" is Roman Catholic...but men of God come from all denominations, and all religions -- our job is to listen closely and know those who will spread the light we all need -- whether they are Jewish, Buddhist, Muslim or Christian. Important message!

Wow. Can’t believe I missed this 6 years ago. He perfectly described the relationship between religion and church without any bias, hate or division without compromising his religious belief which by the way were right on point.

Not a "like" for 'her'. But, rather, a "love" for HIS message. :)

Pastor Bernard even baptized me. I've gone to CCC(Christian Cultural Center) for years and I was comparing his preaching style to that of my own ministers. Yale asked the Rev. Barber to establish a Center for Public Theology & Public Policy. Praise the lord, he took the job. Best thing to come to that staid Ivy institution in years.

Not as many times as I have watched that old 1969 video out take from top of the pops with that great looking young lady in the black outfit dancing to Sugar Sugar. But give me time, I may even pass that video in watching repeats of this one.

He makes me proud to be from NC, and a lot of nc leaders do not, these days.

I'm just sad that Hillary, her husband and her speech writers have learned so little about moving people from Barack Obama and people like Rev. William Barber about how to claim the high ground and actually say something that will MOVE people. It's time for more shocks to the heart of democracy--just like this one. Which side are you on?

Reverend Barber is aligned with Dr. King on militarism; the United States spends to much on militarism and is to quick to use violence against foreigners.

The Bishop warned us four years ago , Look at us now four years later ! SMDH.
