Retiring After Aberdeen, Almost Signing Virgil Van Dijk & The Magic Of Adel Taarabt! | Neil Warnock

Спорт

Former Sheffield United, Crystal Palace, QPR, Leeds, Cardiff, Middlesbrough, Huddersfield & most recently Aberdeen manager, Neil Warnock is our returning special guest on No Tippy Tappy Football.
Neil Warnock sits down alongside Sam Allardyce & Natalie Pike to discuss his legendary football career from his first manager job at Gainsborough Trinity to his final role at Aberdeen.
The former QPR manager talks about how he got the best out of Adel Taarabt, his fond memories of the club & what it takes to win promotion from the Championship.
Neil and Sam also chat about playing out from the back and how his former Huddersfield player Michal Helik took his advice of clearing the ball a bit too literally.
They then talk in depth about the importance of having great staff, mind games in football, almost signing Virgil van Dijk & giving his decorator minutes in pre-season.
Finally Neil announces that he's officially retired from football having started his career at Chesterfield as a player in 1967 before going on to manage 1,626 professional games, over 300 non-league games and having won promotion 8 times.
Happy retirement Neil.

Neil, thank you for all you did at Huddersfield town during both of your stints, the word legend is thrown around all too often these days, but you are an absolute legend, and what you did for the club will never be forgotten. Thank you, and I hope that you enjoy your retirement (although I'm sure you will get a few calls near Christmas!)

Really enjoyed this episode. Always a great one when Warnock is on the show. He has so much to offer and it was nice to hear him talk without tons of interruptions. Good episode. Looking forward to more guests coming on and hopefully being able to share their stories a little more. Keep them coming! It'd be good if you could get Mike Flynn, former Newport County manager on the podcast to talk about "the great escape".

It was great Warnock did Aberdeen, like how Andy dibble went there as well, great sportsmen. And it was not that bad, it's just the momentum went poor, and it was the end of the season, so a strange time, and he did reach the cup semi final, which turned out to be a classic. And the guy he got from Canada has been brilliant. Hollett or something, so I think it is better than some say.

he's a decent manager but probably didn't know the Scottish league well enough, given time he probably would have got things right but he's getting on a bit and only wants short-term jobs, he was getting dog's abuse and heavy criticism from Aberdeen fans on social media which he probably doesn't need for a man who is in 'semi-retirement'
