“I’ll NEVER recover from losing the England job!’ ⚽ Sam Allardyce | Up Front

This is Up Front with Simon Jordan. A show brought to you by William Hill that pulls no punches and tells it EXACTLY like it is.
Sam Allardyce is a name that is synonymous with the Premier League. Portrayed as a long ball specialist, branded a dinosaur and even renowned as a revolutionary, you simply cannot tell the story of modern British football without the man they call ‘Big Sam’.
Fresh from his short term Leeds United experiment, Sam joins the show to discuss his time at Leeds whilst looking back at the key moments in his career. Whether it’s his success at Bolton Wanderers or the pain of losing the England job. Nothing is off the table in this week’s episode of Up Front.

Who didn’t love watching Bolton with Okacha, Ngotty and Ivan Campo? I remember being in a cab in London 20 years ago and the driver going on about how he loved watching Bolton, but he was an Arsenal fan. That Bolton team had world class players and they were never traditionally a big club.

Should of known better but we Live and Learn and I'm sure it's 1 of his biggest regrets if not rhe biggest he has. But then again he can still claim the 100% win record for England 😂 These perceived managers like Dyche, Allardyce etc. Always get painted a certain way in media. I'd love to see what would happen if you gave them 2 full seasons at a top 6, top 4 club to see properly how they get on. As far as I can remember I don't think it's ever happened and that's a huge shame really.

29.00 - I absolutely agree that a player who gets through all the levels and plays first team professional football has achieved the equivalent of a Masters Degree. That's a great point. My work colleague has the same theory about rugby. That the game is so complicated to learn, those who go on to become elite were probably going to excel at whatever they did in life (if coached properly) whether it was construction, farming, finance or whatever.

@@TubbyBrewster11 I actually think he would. Look at the split second decision making, the ability to "execute" a game plan that involved meticulous studying, and the huge amount of hours put into perfecting his craft right back to aged 8. That's the same as the 8 year old kid who studied non stop in school, got solid A Level results, did more exams in University, and then went into the world of finance, politics, or anything complicated where vital decision making and taking on huge responsibility with massive consequences is a constant. I guarantee you that if Grealish had put his mind to academic studies as an 8 year old, and graduated as a Barrister as an example, he would be top class as that's his intelligence and his mindset as he proves every week.

This interview was challenging and open and I have to say respect to Sam (and to Simon).. compelling conversation and shows you (I) shouldn't judge a book by its cover. As a northerner I can say that even Sam can come across as uncouth and brash.. and yet peel back the onion and there is intelligence, wit, humour and some regret in there... Being called Big Sam with a moniker as a dinasour, and being branded as a long ball merchant worked in his favour as some opposition teams probably expected to win easily, when in reality the football was not simply long ball, but actually really effective, which contiibuted to winning more games.

I loved watching Big Sam play for Bolton in the 70s, Incan still see how he flattened guys and when he went up for corners us fans would Rooooar! Haha....he would head it with such power there was no one like him. A real Bolton Wanderers legend. My dad loved him and met him once but it meant a lot, at one of those player of the year evenings, dads ashes at the ground and three of us with names outside BWFC. Yeah he has done lots, and screwed up lots but.....Forever people of Bolton love him. 😊

Great interview Simon have always liked Big Sam. He managed Limerick Fc here in the League of Ireland who now have just an academy sides in the League of Ireland. The new senior side is Treaty United which will play at the Markets Field where Sam would have managed. Sam is someone who I wish was given a chance at a bigger club. Would much of rathered him being United manager than moysie. What about getting Roy Keane on next?

Big Sam makes a very valid point when he speaks about the education system not doing enough to support⚽football and young talent. A good success example is how American sports are intertwined with the educational system even if the young talent doesn't make it, they still have something to fall back on. This model has worked for everyone involved in American sports from players, colleges/universities, high schools, teams/clubs, sponsors, fans etc.. 🏈🏀⚾🎓

Sam left Bolton in 2007. Undoubtedly he did well there and at their best Bolton played good football and Allardyce was able to attract international talent and not just Simon Davies. It's a shame that Sam refuses to reflect on what has happened in the last 16 years. Undoubtedly he was unlucky at Newcastle and Blackburn. There was only one club where Keegan could have walked into the manager's job and that was Newcastle. The Venkys had an unreal view of where Blackburn should be. It was at West Ham where Sam's career derailed. The first two years were fine and he re-established the club in the middle of the Premier League. Instead of trying to push on, Allardyce chose to play dire safety-first football. His reputation was established there and subsequently he was offered 'Fireman Sam' jobs.. Sam also blames journalists and other managers. He never reflects how unpopular he was with the fans at many clubs, the people who paid the main part of his salary

Knowing how us Brits are we may well start to love the clubs that low block and baller it against the 'big clubs'. Look at Forest last season, that felt like a real throwback, both in atmosphere and backs to the wall stuff that eventually ground out results against the likes of arsenal, citeh, pool and chelsea. It was kinda romantic again

Great at Bolton Wanderers both as Centre Half & later as Team Manager for 10 years at Top level in Premier League. Big Sam did a good job at Sunderland where previously he played. As Manager he kept Sunderland against all odds in English Premier League winning relegation battle with Geordie rivals Newcastle United (the mags) & Norwich City. Fans of the Black Cats were devastated when Sam Allardyce left to take England Job.
