Restoration Old Caucasian Dagger Khanjali

Hello everyone. Today I want to show the restoration of an antique Caucasian dagger Khanjali. The item has the stamp of the first half of the 19th century. Georgian name is Khanjali and Satevari. The dagger itself was badly corroded by rust. Especially the cutting edge. Well, let's start the restoration!

First for a long time, a rust remover, then washing, drying and oiling. Based on the fact that the dagger is badly damaged and a lot of the metal surface is lost due to rust. I did not sand it and subjected it to mechanical action, so as not to spoil the antique thing. I cleaned the surface with a cleaner and a rough sponge.
Likewise, I made the handle of the future dagger from beech wood. I don't have a lathe, I went to a friend, and we carved two rivets for the handle and a brass tip for the scabbard out of bronze. After completing the handle, I moved on to engraving the rivets with a homemade primitive tool from the file. For the third rivet, I chose a round steel one and cut out a decorative shape for the rivet from brass.
I made the scabbard out of pine. I glued the wooden scabbard with natural thin leather. The fitting for the dagger sheath were made of brass. He also used etching for the accessories of the scabbard with iron chloride. The suspension is made of genuine leather.
The whole job took me 4 weeks in total. Of course, with the weekend. Every day I did something a little bit. I made a very interesting test of this dagger for you. I hope you enjoy this video of the restoration of an ancient Caucasian dagger.

Don't apologise, mate. In my country, Australia, there's a saying, necessity is the mother of invention. You needed a tool to engrave the tops of those rivets n you made one. 👍👍👍🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺

The fact that the dagger was personal and had, what I assume was, someone's initials makes it so much more special! I'm sure it was a loved dagger and if it's owner could see what you did, they would be overjoyed with your work!

I was impressed with how much craftsmanship you showed. I've watched a lot of other restoration channels, many of them use modern power equipment to simplify their results. Not that it's a bad thing, but it's their style. You use tools that old time craftsmen used to create or repair their products. Your knowledge and skills with these tools are excellent. Many times during the video I couldn't understand why you were doing certain things, until you started putting it all together and came out with this excellent dagger and scabbard. Well done my friend; happy to subscribe to your channel and see more.

That is a labor of love. I like how - on Caucasian scabbards - the work is nice, but it is not perfect. It has a human element and does not look machined.

Спасибо, замечательное видео. Очень понравилась гравировка на крепеже рукояти и чрезвычайно аккуратное и тщательное изготовление ножен и украшение них. На мой взгляд, канал вышел на уровень выше. With all the Caucasian blades you fix, I'm surprised you don't have a drawer full of those pins already pre-made 😮. But then again I do like seeing you make everything by hand 🤔. Oh well, as long as you keep saving these poor old blades I'm happy 😄
