Restoration of Rusty KNIFE - Made From an old DAGGER
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Hello folk! Today I have a new restoration that you haven't seen so far. A knife made from an ancient Caucasian dagger. Could you think of such a thing? I'm not, I accidentally got this object in my hands and of course I didn't let it go. I'm starting to restore!
So, a knife made from a dagger. This can be seen by the deeds that are characteristic of the dagger, as well as by the handle and by the holes. Fortunately, many daggers of different types have passed through my hands. First, I cleaned the surface of the knife from rust and dirt with a sandblaster.
Next, I adjusted the cutting edge and the back of the knife and moved on to polishing the blade. For sanding, I used sandpaper from 80-240 grit, and then manually from 360 to 1000 along with polishing paste. I did not remove all the pits and corrosion that remained after rust because the blade is already thin.
Due to the fact that the knife is made of a Caucasian dagger, I want to add ornaments in the Georgian style. This will be relevant, and it will also hide under iron oxide.
Surprise! It just can't be. Inside the valleys is twisted Damascus! It's just very cool. I.e. after etching in acid, all the beauty seemed. Great, in this case, we do everything in the Caucasian style. Hilt and scabbard.
For the handle, I chose beech, the type of handle is checkers. The scabbard is made of linden, also in the Caucasian style. After gluing and processing the scabbard, I glued and stitched them with natural thin leather and leather straps for wearing on the belt.
And yes, as usual, I made an interesting test for you. Please, don't forget to share this video! Thank you for your attention.
Sincerely, Alex. Thanks for attention!
Good luck and health to everyone! With best wishes, Alex!

As always, I love watching you revive a classic from your country. But, I gotta say, that sheath/scabbard! It had it all….the compound wood, the carving, the leather, the stitching, buckles, exposed and beaten pins…..so much awesome…..you’re brilliant

Before I found your channel, I was ignorant of the proud heritage of that area. I am truly impressed by your skill in both woodworking and metalworking.
I can forge most any blade I want and make my own ‘damascus.’ I have to say that’s a beautiful pattern on that old blade and the decorative etching you did is super nice! I’ve made a few wood core scabbards but your leather coverings are far better than anything I can do! Well done, sir! I’ll have to try your methods next time.

Such a fantastic video with so many good things. You're surprised at the finding of the Damascus was wonderful, the straps on the scabbard looked so professional while still feeling rustic. And what made me smile the most was you talking at the end of the video. I absolutely loved it all! Beep beep!

На счет ржавых железок конечно бери, чем больше тем лучше! Мне очень нравится смотреть как ты занимаешься реставрацией!!!
I enjoyed seeing your comment about not wasting anything. I myself am the same. Being born from a poverty family. I have learned to save every last scrap. That could be usable in one way or another. Be it scrap firewood for tender or for building something a scrap piece of paper or a scrap piece of denim. It can all be used.

Very nice this project turned out beautiful. Happy to see it.
Somebody took that Caucasus dagger and turned it into a Bowie knife. You should incorporate that piece of the blade's history and make now a Wild West-style leather sheath for it!
Such a great restoration!

I thought so at first too but the blade isn’t quite a Bowie shape with those full length fullers. Remember that James Bowie took inspiration from many existing knife styles of his time, and people were immigrating from all over Europe. I do not doubt that he saw Caucasus style knives when designing his. But yes, this knife deserves a traditional treatment including that cloven hoof looking pommel. I particularly loved the etching which gives the blade a cultured and wild look at the same time.

Your video put me in great conflict. Being an antique dealer, and collector of edge weapons, I have always believed in😂 leaving as much original form as possible. Your drilling out the hand made holes on the tang, for example, made me cringe. I have many Japanese katana, wakasushi, and tanto I would not apply any of these techniques to. That being said, your expertise in restoration is obvious and greatly entertaining. The finished product here is superb, even if the items' facade of antiquity is greatly compromised (as is the value in auction).
Nice work. Sheath is amazing
