    It's not a meat cleaver and he ruined the temper and then ruined the blade with toxic bluing agent. BLUING ISN'T FOOD SAFE...

    Yeah … you are absolutely right. If you look at the original handle it enabled you to use the finger groove, his handle defeats the purpose completely. Great point

    That's some lovely work on the handle. Nice polishing on the blade, too, but I'm confused by the design. Why does a meat cleaver need teeth along the spine?

    It's called _jimping_ and it's for your thumb to rest on and push against for better stability when making a slice as opposed to a chopping motion. At least, the teeth close to the handle are; for the rest? I would assume uniformity and the rule of cool were applied~

    @@alexisgrunden1556 No, they're for sawing through bones. I have a knife very similar to that one that I bought because I heard it was super easy to fake restoration videos with since it's easy to make it look old and rusty, and now I'm seeing the proof of that.

    I think the wire holding the handle on originally was a mostly straightened coat hanger?

    I think when you heat treat anything you need to temper it as well because it undoes the brittleness of the metal object

    it realy doesn't seem old at all. just seems like some dude put on some weird rustik handle( wood looks clean) and made the metal rust intentionally. the bright orange of the rust tells me this is "new" rust.

    That's not a meat cleaver. It's a French styled ice cleaver. Between the welding and grinding you softened the metal because you weren't cooling it as you worked. Then you didn't retemper the steel correctly. The blade was also bent, which when hot you could have fixed. You also messed up the bevel, it's angled that way for a reason, so the cut product rolls off the blade. Bluing isn't food safe, so this blade can never be used again for anything ANYONE WILL EVER EAT. You ruined it. So many mistakes, such a poorly thought out job and not any research on how to do it correctly. The saddest thing is over 3 thousand people think you did a good job instead of potentially poisoning people. SMH...

    You didn't fill the dimples in the metal, bluing isn't food safe, and I'm not even sure that this was even an old cleaver. Horrible, awful, very bad time

    Не поняла, а зачем сварка на обеих сторонах лезвия ножа, каплевидная правда, но зачем? Тем более дуговая. И это явно не ржавчина и не диффузия какого-то металла в лезвие. Может там были каверны? И ещё закалка странная и отпуск не сделан, да и чернение явно не для бытового предмета (для мяса, приготовления блюд ну никак). А так - кропотливая и красивая работа.

    Easier ways to off yourself than slowly poisoning yourself with his poorly done restores. And that is a French ice cleaver, not a meat cleaver. Also bluing agent isn't food safe, nor is the glue he used. He made that knife toxic...
