Restoration of an Amazing Hebdomas 8 Days Watch - Very rare - Over 100-years-old
This time, I decided to restore a watch that was over 100 years old. It's a well-known Hebdomas 8 Days watch. It was originally designed to be a pocket watch but was later converted to a wrist watch by someone.

wow. looks beautiful in your arm. Better than new rolex gold.
If I fall asleep watching this I'll just watch a second time. Very relaxing and beautiful.
I have a gold hunter version of this watch. Bought it 50 years ago and wore it with a waistcoat for many years - with a gold chain to match. It's in excellent condition and you have spurred me to get it serviced. Glad that you oiled it!

Great job!

That should be known as the “Telephone Dial Watch”, characteristic of the design. Somebody of days gone by, got it right, with the angle of the watch on the band. That needs not be newer technology. Very interesting 🧐 music. It almost 😅 sounds like 👍 “El condora Pasa (If I Could)” by Simon and Garfunkel, but different. Merry Christmas 🎁🎄🤶 🎅. Your friend, Jeff.

lovely work😀
Great post 👏👏 as for the wheel u couldn't take off there is a lock that slides off sideways. Hope that helps 🥂
I've owned a few of these over the years but at time I wasn't interested (American watches were my focus) they were just part of the deal. I don't think I currently have one in my collection.
😱😱😱🤦♂️🤦♂️ the largest main spring I've ever seen on a watch 😳😳😳
Nice Watch👍

Incidentally, the name "hebdomas" means "week" in old-fashioned Greek

Thank you for the new knowledge. This time, I'm not surprised why it's called Hebdomas.
Good Work Sir
Those finger prints all over the places are killing me... poor watch

Gorgeous watch. I couldn't help but notice you didn't use any oil. Did you oil it off camera or is it running dry?
@bangkokvintagewatch

Thank you. Yes, I use Bergeon oil to lubricate it.

You can see he does use oil in 12:44 nearly droping out of the movement there is so much of it
lovely work. would love to know what the timegrapher figures were on such an old piece

I wonder where did the oil go? And also those lines on the movement plate is corrosion caused by fingerprints. To get rid of it watchmaker should use finger gloves. But this is a great watch and needs a real restoration like re polishing the screws and so on.

I did use watch oil, but I didn't show it on the video, and after fixing it, I used pure alcohol with a cotton bud to clean movement from finger prints, but next time I plan to use finger gloves. Thanks for watching my video.
Amazing very beautiful watch what its price
You the best
Not adding oil nor grease?
It's a pocket watch converted in a right hand wrist watch
were you tempted to convert it back to a pocket watch?
Where is your shop located?
⌚⌚❤️💘👍🤗😁 besides that song one night in Bangkok by Murrayhead. The Thai air force & Thai food. 😄😀
Did you just use the watch cleaning solution to clean the dial?
@bangkokvintagewatch

Yes, only for the porcelain dial.

Wurde die Uhr wirklich trocken zusammengebaut ? Und warum hat der Monteur seinen Fingerabdruck auf dem Gehäuse hinterlassen ?

The finger print belonged to the previous watchmaker.
That you have it with your fingers to touch! I find very strange.

At first, I was going to use a finger glove. But someone I know told me it'd be too difficult to watch; not wearing it will be much easier to understand. Thank you for commenting. Next time, I'll use a finger glove.

@@bangkokvintagewatch that is fine, just carefully examine the movement to make sure you don't get any lint in there from the cotton bud
The way he pulls out the pallet fork without letting down the power first, and the way he turn the screw to open the mainspring barrel, and the way he reassemble without wearing finger cots, i think wow! This must be a master. Thats it, im off for a cup of coffee 😬

Finger cots are so overrated, back then nobody had em. A clean work area n clean hands with some sanitizer is better than any finger condom lol n I'm 3rd generation watchmaker. Everything is done by hand, well that's how i was taught, especially when u have to make ur own parts. I wish I was good with the camera 🤣
That was the 1st wristwatch?

No, it's not.
How could you possibly re-assemble it with that horrible thumb print on the bridge?

My other question is no use of gloves and one of the other question was weres the oil 🤔 🙄
@bangkokvintagewatch

I didn't use gloves because it'll be easier for the viewer to watch and understand the video, but I removed all finger prints after fixing them with cotton buds and alcohol. Yes, I lubricated the movement with watch oil, but it didn’t show on the video.
Nice watch, too bad the dial cracked....
@VeganAtheistWeirdo
Жыл бұрын
I was impressed by how well that dial cleaned up, even knowing it was porcelain rather than paint. And considering those cracks were already there, they actually did a decent job with it. Even in its pre-cleaned condition, this movement must be worth a small fortune.
Wow definatly not waterproof
The watch was in a better shape before the so called restoration...

Lube is overrated I guess.
@VeganAtheistWeirdo
Жыл бұрын
How did you miss the _puddle_ of oil on the right starting at 12:40? Look at the small wheel that engages with the center wheel. There even appears to be some on the far right edge of the main plate. If anything, this person uses far too much lube as far as I understand from other watchmakers. They just don't show it every time they're applying it.
