Restoration of 1951 Vincent Rapide - Part 72 - Saturday afternoon ride

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Had a really nice ride out today and took a moment to think about my poor Dad who sadly passed away last week in the UK.
We love our adopted Country but it's times like this when you feel so far away from home and family.
By the time you watch this, I will be on my way to Norfolk to see my brothers and pay our last respects to our beloved Dad. It will be so great to see my family again, despite the sad circumstances.
I'll also be thinking about what I suspect has happened to the rear drum now that the rear sprocket decided to part from the bike!
Buy me a coffee? ☕ 😉

My condolences, also a tough time to be traveling, best wishes for a safe trip. Thank you for this video, the sound was perfect and I'm pretty sure that this is the closest I'll ever get to riding one of those legendary motorcycles. I was hoping you would "crank it on a bit" but at the end I was glad you did not. Got my first Norton in 1970, a Commando S in the deep red metal flake, been in love with them ever since. Your videos give about the truest Norton riding experience available on the internet, well done and thank you from Colorado.

Hi Mike glad you and the bike made it home safely. The riding was just the thing I did to clear my head and keep my sanity when my Dad passed 7 years ago. It is good tonic for the soul. As an engineer Dad loved watching me learn how to fix, build and ride these old bikes, taking what he taught me and using it to learn and do more and passing my knowledge on as well. He would say to teach is to learn twice, and it is always good to learn more. Sounds like your Dad was the same I am sure he is and was proud of what you have learned and you passing on your knowledge on to us. As for your twin it would seem that the sprocket flange on your H1/8 break drum has completely separated. It probably was cracked and just got worse from heat cycles and rust and torque, finally letting go. The good news is you are safe and the fix is simply a new drum and a few, ok a lot of nuts and bolts. Safe travels on this solemn journey, you have mates all over the world and you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Hi Eric, thank you so much for your wonderful note. I sincerely appreciate it. I had a very nice trip home to the UK and it was lovely to see my brothers and family again. We have all aged a little - gulp! I haven't seen some of them in over 20 years, so it was a little shocking, but also lovely. We toasted our dad and he would have liked his send off. Thanks for your advice on the rear drum / sprocket. I think you are exactly right. I haven't even been in the garage since I got home but I'm sure that's what it is. Can't wait to see it. Best wishes to you and your family at this time! Cheers, Mike

When I was in high school a spring came loose in the trans. of my 1965 Yamaha 250, so I couldn't get the trans. out of neutral. I was at the top of Mt. Rubidoux, had to push the bike about 5 miles to home (luckily part of it was downhill). Thank goodness your problem happened just down the street from your house! Condolences. As we get older we get some benefits: the kids leave to make their own way in life (and pay for it themselves), we usually have a bit of spare cash to do with as we please, and some spare time too. But there's a downside too as we lose our parents and friends. Unfortunately, we all go there. I still miss my dad, some 4 years on, but most days I have a chat to him, ask him how he'd do something, or what he thinks of the job I've just done, and use his old tools. It's life I suppose. I must go and check the sprocket bolts on my '73 Triumph....
