Is it legal to build up cheap speakers and sell it as a BOSE speaker because of few branded plastic sticked to them? I'm sure the price will go up a lot because he say its BOSE where it isn't. It's not hate, I just don't wanna be the person who buy this cheap shit thinking its BOSE one. And they will burn soon or sound quality won't let me to enjoy them as much as I expect and paid.

As a professional sound installer I installed no end of these back in the day in restaurants, bars, kids clubs etc, and had no end of issues especially with the bass drivers burning out. After re-visiting a number of installations several times to replace the drivers with genuine Bose units we eventually opted for a cheaper generic driver and never had a moment's problem afterwards. I always thought they were overpriced and under-engineered, though they sounded sort of 'OK' when they worked. Venues only wanted to install them because of the badge on the front.

I don't agree with you, I believe you don't think about the durability time! I have a bose 3 acousmatic and they are no less than 27 years old, what equipment lasts all this time and costs little? You also didn't take into account the project costs to develop the product. Regarding the burning of the component, it was definitely a poorly applied volume!

Nice job! I have had a pair of Bose 301s since 1979 when I bought them at Macys on an American military base in the middle of the Pacific. Repaired them once when foam and diaphram started to decay, they are still my main speaker now!

I had a pair either from 78 or 79. They had the reflector that you can turn yourself. To this day I have no idea where they went. I currently have a pair of 601 which need replacement woofers. They used to be a store near me that sold them, They no longer carry them. I either need to find a recone kit or find someone to repair them for me

While the craftsmanship surely is impressive the speakers are actually far from perfect. Sorry to spoil the oparty but as an ex audio pro i'm just thinking all the time: This is not an restoration. Actually *all* relevant parts have decayed (which BTW is a very poor statement for Bose build quality). This is an out-of-spec copy of an ancient mediocre quality Bose speaker that by accident uses 2 plastic enclosure parts that once were part of an original Bose 302. The Thiele-Small parameters of the reconed speakers certainly don't fit and the capacitors went out-of-spec over time. None of the original design parameters are met and if you measure the speakers or compare them to a factory spec original (which doesn't exist any more) nothing will fit. Nice content for a KZread video but a waste of time and effort in the real world.

@@stefanguels ...glad to see it's not just me, but that is far from a 'restoration'. Can't imagine that these are now anything like the original-spec, and would venture to suggest that they are at best described as disingenuous, and at worst, counterfeit.

Good video to learn about how these things were originally assembled. I picked up a pair of these used a few weeks back, in pristine shape. But today playing the Bob Ludwig-mastered first vinyl pressing of Led Zeppelin II revealed their biggest shortcoming--plastic in the build. I knew about the plastic, of course, but didn't know how this particular application of it would reveal its weakness. The record is "hot", with strong bass, and at moderate volume the plastic end pieces buzz with a nasty resonance. The tweeter and midrange speakers seem to be the only things that could buzz independently, as they're screwed/bolted into their plastic "carriers" or cages or whatever they're called. I may check that out and see if I can squelch the buzzing by wrenching them down, but I'm not optimistic. I know now why the three series of 301s prior to the series IV are viewed with more favor--much less plastic in the builds of those speakers, though I wouldn't say they're robustly engineered by any means. Even the subsequent series V model looks to have less plastic than the IV. At any rate, thanks for providing insight as to why these crappily-made speakers buzz the way they do.
