Take it from someone that has had JBL, Altec and ElectroVoice reconing training at the factories, this was exceptionally well done. I'd love to know where they got an edgewound voice-coil made! That's the secret to JBL, Altec and E-V as well. That edgewound voice-coil is why all three are at least 3dB more effficent than almost any other type of speaker (with the possible excptions of Cetec, Gauss and Stephens-Trusonic and certain Peavey speakers which had edgewound coils as well.). I'm afraid those days are gone forever now with the bulk of speakers cheaply mass-produced in China. These folks did a really fine job, right down to the original style vented dust cap.

What about someone like AudioFrog today? I don't know anything about speakers/sound, but I recently have put some money into a car system that I hope will end up sounding really good once I can finish it up by getting a DSP and Tweeters. This definitely looks like a lost art to the USA. Even the AudioFrog speakers that I purchased are made in China. China's issue isn't that they make everything low quality nor that they don't know quality. China's issue is that you have to be on-top of their quality, or they will cut corners any way they possibly can. On top of that, the companies that use China will try to cut all of the corners possible also. I ran a small business and used China manufacturing. It is possible to have a quality product made in China. The issue will be finding a lot of people who are willing to pay the price you will need to charge for the quality.

Amazing this restoration and well deserving for the almost 2 million views (as of April 2022). The speaker at the start of the video looked as though it had been left out in the rain/wind/elements. Congratulations on your work!
Beautiful my friend so well done🎉
Работа - Hi End, Молодец !!!👍👍👍
Great work by a truly gifted craftsman. Wish you had added some more explanations about : - the products used on each step, glues etc. - the work done to refresh the internal and external surfaces where the coil moves into. Obviously the width of this gap must be as little modified as possible, but the surfaces must be made perfectly smooth again, so it’s certainly one of the most delicate steps. Other than that, a wonderful restoration of a speaker that most people would have thought to be destroyed beyond any hope of repair !! 👍👍👍
Luar biasa sekali abang-abang ini, kreatif sangat, kerjanya halus, hasilnya mantap, saya suka sekali ❤️ Terus berkarya dan sukses 👍 Salam pemula 🙏

Seeing the entire restoration process means you earned all of the viewers, congrats 👏 looking for more of your How To videos.
Very nice restoration process, congratulations ! However, a rebuilt like this (or any other speaker) does not guarantee that the speaker will sound like the original one - materials will never be the same, specially decades later! There are many variables that influence final performance: wire thickness, copper purity and resistance; total coil weight; cone paper quality & thickness; quantity of glue applied.... and the list goes on with other minor details. Sometimes the speaker gets better than the original one since some modern materials can be better. But what matters here is the the restoration process, which was fully accomplished, thanks for sharing !

@@TIMEtoRIDE900 He did an amazing job! But altec voice coils were unique. On top of that, we of course don't have the tolerances and specs of how deep the voice coil is versus the original. I bought my SEAS speakers 50 years ago and they still sound just fine.
Old Altec Lansing speakers are the best, they sound great. I have 2 pre 80's, one meter high, stereo speaker boxes that sounds great with a 180 Watt amplifier when playing 45 rpm vinyl and LP 33 rpm records on a turntable. The tall speaker boxes have 2 x 10 inch bass speakers, 2 x 6 inch mid range and 2 x 4 inch tweeters each, boasting beautiful, rich, natural sound. 😀

I threw my speakers together way back in 1978. Speaker box size is 812H x 520W x 407D. They each contain one 15" woofer, two mid-range, and four tweeters. Plus they are mirror images of each other rather than identical. I have only had to replace the outer foam ring for each woofer. Total cost was $27 CAD.

I have 2 Voice of the Theater speakers with the 515 speakers. They are in the model 19 oak cabinet. I used to sell Altec audio equipment. In my opinion these were the best speaker ever made. Sitting in front of them playing a half speed master vinal record of Neal Diamond "Hot August Night" you would think you are in a live concert.

The size and mass of that alnico magnet is nothing short of amazing. The magnet of a typical alnico guitar loudspeaker is a fraction of the size.
@cyrillepinton3398

It's inside magnet, not outer ring, as you can see at the opening. Also the driver use 76mm coil, thus field gap, while guitar driver us 38mm coil.
@928CS
Жыл бұрын
That is true for the most part. However, the JBL D and K series speakers have a 4" voice coil and huge alnico magnet, and are my favorite guitar speaker.
More than likely , they've improved the driver significantly more than it was originally ! Through R&D , the materials and technology used on sound reinforced speaker , and cabinet design , are always improving . Can't say as much for the pricing , YIKE'S!!!!!
