As the saying goes, when you fall, fall into the confessional. I know well from my own experience that healing from this sin is a long and exacting work. But I promise you that your life will be richer and more balanced when you stop being turned in on yourself and turn toward others.

Amen brother I've always been addicted to sex and unfortunately it came often and from what everyone would consider to be "irresistible" women I asked the Lord to help me and I've actually been solid. But then came the self gratification which might even be worse in terms of demeaning One day at a time stay strong Our conscience is clear and this modern world is filled with landmines like going to the gym, porn, Instagram and boredom Praying for all of us

This is solid. I listened to the video of Fr Casey and was left confused. It somehow sounded permissible and eases the blow of the sin. Sin is sin. We have to repent with true contrition. Prayers to all who are struggling with this. Begin and begin again.

As every Catholic knows, for a sin to be mortal, and for someone to commit mortal sin, the sin must be grave matter, the person must have full knowledge of the sin, being grave matter, and there must be full consent of the will. I have been a priest for almost 30 years anyone who knows anything of addiction whether it be to sex or to alcohol or gambling or over, eating, knows that addiction impedes and prevents a person from giving full consent of the will to their behavior.

Agreed to an extent. Having studied addiction, particularly in the area of porn, and working with the various experts in the field, the clinical psychologists, CSATS, etc, the number of those who fall under "clinical addiction" to pornography is incredibly low. And incredibly low is an understatement. While the effects of extended porn use can mimic those of hard drugs, and even lower grey matter in the brain, there is no impact on the will or knowledge in over the vast majority of cases. For instance, if they are confessing, they know it's wrong. So then the question becomes are they fully consenting with their will. The reality is, as previously stated, in almost 100% of the cases, they are. Why is that? Because in all the interviews conducted in my studies, every single man, knew at one point that they had a chance to stop, but refused that instinct and continued. It's not a simple "im tempted and I fall into sin" its a multi step process (when breaking it down it can be upwards of hundreds of steps - each a moment to stop) where at some point they knew or had an inclination of what they were doing was wrong, and then continued. Similarly, the use is rarely to never brazen. It is hidden, and kept hidden, not just because of the shame, but because they know it's wrong, but seek opportunities to continue. Speaking also of my own experience and past struggles here. Anyone who is honest with themselves, unless clinically diagnosed, which I must stress again is so incredibly rare, will admit that they consented. Regardless, the point of the video is to recognize the plague that is porn use, and rather than split hairs over potential culpability, take steps to stop the sin in the first place. The great news is, God is merciful and this issue is an easy one to address. Thank you for chiming in, and know we pray for all priests daily. - JB

We do have to pray for priests . Let me count the reasons for indignation after viewing sone of his videos…. I cannot watch him bc it’s too painful to expose myself to so much of what he says and how he says it. Even the vid titles and the thumbnail photos wreak of silliness. I do not want to be too harsh or disrespectful of his office as a priest, but there is a huge difference between what I hear from him, how he presents , and my pastor of the same age (Trad parish). He is a product, in large part, to the influences under which he was raised and formed, and the difference is glaring, I read that he wrote a number of books, but it seems apparent that he needs to spend some time with Trad order priests learning , as well as with conservative Novus Ordo priests such as FrChris Alar, Fr Mike Schmitt, , Fr Don Calloway etc.

PS - If he becomes better formed as a priest like those mentioned. He would have a lot to offer . He is extroverted and has energy and passion. So many souls are headed for perdition. His positive qualities could save souls, but he needs to stay entirely orthodox and stop hanging with that other priest. An orthodox Fr Casey is badly needed. I remember a young priest from 70s who was like a big kid , much the same but did not have the snarky provocative attitude as Fr Casey can have while he presents confusing and incomplete, content in your face. This priest must have gotten sone more grace bc about 10 years later I saw him a d he was still very nice but had a transformation.. Evident in his serious, devout demeanor and general approach and teaching, Prayers for Fr CC.

I dont know what happened this 13th day. I dont have any urge. Pray for me that i will be able to overcome this one On the other hand, porn., this was the easiest thing for me. The fact that i stopped this long time ago.🙏

Stay the course. At this stage, you're dealing mostly with how you have trained your body. Your body is used to particular inputs and actions, and when you remove those, it doesn't quite know what to do, so you're in the midst of re-training your body, which is a good thing! The longer you stay clean, the more you will re-train your body, and the easier it will become!

This was a good video and I like seeing a different perspective! I struggle with scrupulous thoughts and spiritual anxiety and it is debilitating. So, if you could pray for me I would appreciate it! And I have a follow up question! Since you believe sin is sin, do you believe in venial and mortal sin? Or do you believe that God sees all sin as equal? I liked your crown of thorns image and it was very impactful. But, it made me think about that question! Thanks again!

You have the prayers. To answer your question, as Catholics, we absolutely believe in venial and mortal sin. However, the point was not to say all sin is the same, since we know that it isn't. But rather, to shift from the dangerous mindset of worrying about culpability rather than worrying about not sinning. I've found this quote helpful "Did the saints inquire "is this a mortal or venial sin?" Did they not rather endeavour with all the strength of their will, to remove and avoid everything which they knew to be displeasing to God?" The saints, even ones who were scrupulous, focused on what mattered - not offending God in all ways possible. They likely recognized that trying to figure out whether a sin was mortal or venial or whether or not they were culpable was a distraction from what actually matters - not offending God out of love for Him.

In our country we had popular priests who had a lot of power but they were telling people they don't have to go to confession with these kind of problems it's okay to receive Holy Communion in that state. When I saw the video of Fr. Casey I knew that we are going down on the wrong road. Mainstream "Christians" are doing pretty weird stuff nowadays. I could write a book about it.

Porn Is Very Much A Sin.

I’ve personally struggled for years with these same problems. When you stop trying to overcome vice you start to justify it. The destructive cycle will never bring you peace, even though in the back of your mind something is always reminding you this is wrong and sinful.

The other thing to say is that these are damnable sins -- they are sins that put one at risk of hell. We have no business trying to sort out "culpability" because that is God's domain alone. We know what we need to know -- when we commit damnable sins, we need & have Confession to restore us.

THANK YOU FOR THIS I look for every excuse and caveat to justify the weakness and just needed that definitive "YES" As my conscience openly projects my revulsion invward at the moment a few hours later back to the semantics game of rationalizing that which I know makes me shameful both in myself and the eyes of the Lord It's rough. So easy to be strong one day only for the next to look for an excuse

Fr Casey made it clear that in some cases it can be a mortal sin if one is not in full control eg if someone sees something for example a television show that induces sexual thought it might cause the viewer to sin therefore to me I don't think it can be considered a mortal sin but let's say theoretically someone does it for fun or because someone's bored in that case I think it can be considered a mortal sin otherwise I fully agree with the message being delivered here

The issue is that the idea of "not being in full control" is vastly overemphasized and misunderstood. In the example that you gave, if someone sees something in passing, and then decides to act out because of it, they are indeed still in mortal sin, because they have full control. Being tempted by something isn't a sin, but making a decision to engage in a sinful action, knowing that it is sinful, does constitute sin, and in this case mortal. The only time someone could claim they they do not have control is if they have gone to a specialist and deemed clinically addicted - which is incredibly rare.

I to struggled I kept confessing it til finally 1 day the priest raised his voice said it’s my turn to talk with great authority… he told me to put a sacred or Holy photo on said device which I did kept praying the Rosary and crying out that darkness left… keep slugging through the mud it gets better

Pornography and masterbation are grave mortal sins because it's an unnatural act. Even if a man looks at videos and pictures with lust in his heart, that is mortal sin. Today, unfortunately, with the internet, a man can easily watch photography and have a virtual reality experience. The only way to overcome the temptation of pornography and masterbation is through prayer, especially the Holy Rosary, frequent confession, and the Holy Eucharist. Sadly, the sin of masterbation and pornography will lead souls to hell. Jesus even states it, "If your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It's better to enter the kingdom God mame than go to hell.

You would be hard pressed to find any cases that match what you present in your comment, so it would be improper to call it a reality. In all my studies on this topic over multiple years, I have not once, seen someone with any legitimate claim of the issue you presented. But pretending that there was a legitimate claim, they would have to seek medical help because if that issue was present, it would be indicative of something wrong medically, in which they could find a solution that didn't involve self harm. - JB

Let your Yes be Yes and You No be No .... sin or no sin ... around the 4 minute mark and toward the end .... You did the same as Fr Casey ... But i appreciated your definitions ... Thank you for watching the video. To answer your last question, the church is explicitly clear - masturbation in every and all circumstances is a grave sin. Prummer - "Pollution (masturbation) which is directly willed *is always grievously sinful* . Why? Because it is the direct willing of sexual pleasure. The way in which it is procured has little bearing on its moral character..." Credo - "Is masturbation (also called “self-abuse” and “onanism”) intrinsically evil? Yes. “Masturbation is an intrinsically and seriously disordered act. The main reason is that, whatever the motive for acting this way, the deliberate use of the sexual faculty outside normal conjugal relations essentially contradicts the finality of the faculty.” (refrencing the Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Declaration Persona Humana) CCC - "By masturbation is to be understood the deliberate stimulation of the genital organs in order to derive sexual pleasure. “Both the Magisterium of the Church, in the course of a constant tradition, and the moral sense of the faithful have been in no doubt and have firmly maintained that masturbation is an intrinsically and gravely disordered action.” Not to mention the endless writings of the saints and other theological teachers. Marriage is no excuse, and in fact, marriage requires a higher form of chastity at times, and to violate that could potentially be an even deeper sin on top of the fact that masturbation is clearly never permitted under any circumstance.

I never liked Fr Casey's videos and stopped watching them after the first couple because his message is always watered down aimed at pleasing people and staying diplomatically safe. He's always fence sitting. Someone like Father Ripperger needs to have a chat with him. I'm glad I fell upon your video. Clicking subscribe right away.

Go to confession. Tell it as it is about exposure to p*rn: how it hapoened, when it happened, how it happened, if was done in secret, hidden, etc. To go confession and sincerely and penitently ask Jesus to forgive you. After receiving Absolution, have full confidence and trust that you have been fully forgiven by Jesus.

It's simple that it's grave matter. The bottom line is that we should get free from it. My summary of mortal and venial sin is this: All sins lead to death, some faster than others. The point is that even venial sin left unchecked will eventually lead to mortal sin. If you're trying to justify your sin, you're already in the wrong mindset. We should always humble ourselves to the leading of the Holy Spirit and seek to be free from sin which will ultimately lead to death otherwise.

Deep confusion amongst RCC seminaries for years. A form of Gnosticism has spread. NOVUS ORDO priests have been trained in seminaries that emphasizes moral relativism. The tragic results have been terrible! The traditional Catholic Church teachings on sexual ethics haven't change one iota.

But what if we truly don't believe masturbation or contraception or whatever is a grave wrong?

Yes. Your opinion or thoughts on the matter have literally zero impact on whether or not its grave or wrong. It doesn't matter in the slightest what you believe, the church holds these things to be objectively wrong and morally evil.

Your conscience has no bearing on whether or not something is objectively wrong. As an example,apply your same logic to physically harming someone else, or commuting a heinous crime, the courts don’t care whether or not you think a particular action is ok, because your opinion means nothing where something has already been defined as objectively evil.

It's so simple but somehow it was complicated by bad theology. When in comes to sins against the 6th commandment there's no "lower culpability" that makes it venial. Even an impure thought when given consent to entertain is mortal. I'm not trying to be sanctimonious here.

So many saints have spoken on how deadly this sin is, and how many people it takes away. We believe, as you stated, that it's far more important to focus on helping people break free entirely!

It's not only men, Jordan spoke in that language because he only assisted men, but he has spoken publicly, often, on how rampant a problem it is for women as well.

The secret is - man has no need for those things. We control our bodies and our desires, not the other way around. Secondarily, porn is not just the wrong way, it's simply not an option for anyone, religious or not. There are endless studies, reports, and testimonies on how not only does porn negatively effect and impact brain matter (among other things) but there is also tremendous research showing how engaging in pornography furthers serious crime. So the answer? Be a man. Control your impulses. - JB

You know on these discussions it always seems to focus on the use of pornography and the sin of masterbation in general when a person has a choice not to masterbate but to pursue sexual relations the proper way in marriage. But there is a situation that never gets discussed and that is in situations where a man is married and then for whatever reason his wife decides that she no longer wants to have sex but continues to stay in the marriage. And no amount of counseling changes her mind. And so here is the husband constantly around the woman he married facing all of the triggers of a normal married life. It is a constant state of arousal and no matter how much one prays and begs for mercy or takes cold showers the biological urge that we were created with never goes away. And sometimes you feel like you are going out of your mind, and you cannot sleep no matter how long you sit in front of the Holy Eucharist you feel like you can never escape the feeling. Are we going to say that the person who eventually succumbs in what is literally a 15 second act with almost no thoughts going through the mind; is still a moral sin in which one will spend eternity in hell for if he doesn't make it to the confessional?

Yes, because the church is explicitly clear that the act is mortally sinful. As unfortunate as that circumstance may be, those factors do not mitigate the sin. If there are men all across the world who have little to no issue refraining from sinning in that way, in similar, and frankly worse situations, then there is no excuse for the man in the situation described in the comment. You rule your flesh, your flesh does not rule you, unless you allow it to. - JB

This was harsh...it is an addictive sin and some were exposed very young...are you saying you dont feel bad for them at all? A lot of people are trying but get doscouraged , this seemed almsoy without mercy .... every case is different....assuming everyone is watching a trafficked victim??? Not everyone is on weirs p*rn websites.... one girls testimony shared she would watch adult movie with p*rn still BAD but frankly, those actors probably werent trafficked ...maybe coerced but your painting the most extreme as if eveeyone uses the same type of porn....some , usually women, only read porn, ive heard other things from testimonies, i wont list them all, but this was very shame oriented and harsh, it IS hard to stop IF you are doing it alone. Alot of us are...its hard to find someone to walk with you, trusting your worst part of yourself with someone

10 years ago I saw a video with this casey character and Jim Martin. I asked CC are you a homosexual. He refused to answer and started telling about Martins book building a bridge and why homosexuality isnt a sin. I copied the whole text between him and me and sent it to his bishop. The Bishop never replied, and three months later CC was ordained a priest. This is the state of our church. No one in the church cares and or dosent want to talk about the problems in the church. He never admitted that he is a homosexual but it is pretty clear. Would you want your child going into a confessional with someone like this? Start complaining.

I think Fr. Casey's viewpoint on this topic is from his Franciscan bent. The Franciscans are also pro-LGBTQ.

Fr Casey and his chums remind me of the past President of Ireland with her theology degree - her agenda is very similar. Trying to justify sin is really just a reflection of the person spouting. Silly people who like to be seen as important. Dust off your feet........

Fr Casey is a liberal and modernist,i stop following him and watching his podcasts a longtime ago,because of his ambiguity and unclarity in issues of Faith and morals.

I'm glad someone said it out loud. I watched a video of his last night where he implied it's wrong to vote for a pro-life candidate if they push "conservative economic policies." I guess Fr Casey would prefer Catholics vote for politicians that push gender affirming care, crt, socialism, etc. He's on the side of the secular world, not Catholics/Christians.

Fr Casey is a product of poor formation in seminary.
