Dying With Mortal Sin On Your Soul? (Bible Study - Daily Mass Readings and Reflection)

Ойын-сауық

Today's Gospel Reading is MT 24:42-51
Fr. Sam Kachuba reflects on today's Gospel and instructs us about the importance of remaining vigilant in seeking Christ. To "live like your dying" is not an invitation to foolish lavish living, but rather a call to remaining steadfast in seeking Jesus. In doing this, we need to ensure that we live our lives APART from mortal sin, and if we commit a mortal sin, that we receive the sacrament of confession.
Most of all, it is important to remember what St. Teresa of Calcutta (Mother Teresa) teaches. Sainthood is meant for everyone, and God will give us the graces necessary to reach it!

    ST. POPE JOHN PAUL II: “By forgiving his executioners, Jesus showed he is not the accuser of the guilty but rather their advocate and intercessor. Jesus’ words of forgiveness - “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do” - were spoken in circumstances of the greatest hatred and cruelty. Jesus forgives His adversaries immediately, even as their hostility continues. Jesus is the defender, not the accuser of the guilty, because He knows that many can be less guilty than it appears, or one thinks. For this reason, he taught his followers not to judge others. The mercy Jesus asked for His executioners is extended to all humanity.”

    Romans 7 read the whole chapter as Paul tells you twice something very important . Just remember that mortal sin and venial sin have the same penalty and that is death under the law . As believers we are no longer under the law and we need to crucify our flesh as the Holy Spirit enables us. We are totally forgiven by God for all of our sins and there is nothing that we do that will make ourselves clean enough for heaven , thanks to the total sacrifice of Jesus on the cross all of our sins and even the punishment for those sins have been nailed to the cross. Coll 2:9-15 Look at what happens when we confess our sins to God 1 John 1:9 You are righteous in Jesus not yourself . Your salvation is secure because none of your salvation is dependent on you. Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Rom. 8:1. Condemnation does not come from God who redeemed you it comes from satan John 10:10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. Every last person on this planet has addictions some worse than others but all with the same outcome till they repent and follow Jesus and then the addiction is only in the flesh as their spirit is placed by God into the heavenly realm with Jesus . Eph 2:6 God does not take you out for any sin as all of your sins as a believer are atoned for by Christ 1 Peter 2:24

    I try to live each day as if it’s my last. Because tomorrow is not promised. I am very sick so my mortality ways heavy on my mind. I make sure to call my 93 year old mother every day. I always say hi to the people I work with. Because that might be just enough for them to not kill them selves today. I have had a young lady that I spoke to 1 day. Come to me later and say that because I just talk to her she is in a better place now. I don’t know I just said hi how you doing? Want to shoot some pool with me and my friend.

    MATTHEW 25: 41 Then he will say to those at his left hand, ‘You who are accursed, depart from me into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels, 42 for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not give me clothing, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’ 44 Then they also will answer, ‘Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison and did not take care of you?’ 45 Then he will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’ 46 And these will go away into eternal punishment but the righteous into eternal life.”

There is sin which is deadly; I do not say one is to pray for that. All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin which is not deadly. Should we repent or pray before a mortal sin?

  • @veritascatholicnetwork

    @veritascatholicnetwork

    9 ай бұрын

    If you are asking if you should pray before committing a mortal sin, the answer is yes, pray that you don't commit it! If you ask for the strength and wisdom, He will grant them to you. Jesus desires we live a life of virtue! If you are asking if you can or should pray after you commit a mortal sin, but before you've gone to confession, the answer is still yes. Ask for the grace to repent of your sin, ask to be brought back into communion with Jesus! Here are the 5 steps to a good confession (from the Angelic Warfare Confraternity's guide to Good Confession): 1) Examine your conscience (that is, recall your sins since your last good confession). 2) Be sincerely sorry for your sins 3) Resolve to amend your life 4) confess your sins to a priest 5) Do the penance the priest assigns you Hopefully this helps you. God Bless! - Matt from the Tangent.

    @@craylosadeThis is why temporal punishment, purgatory, exists. Scripture clearly teaches there is a difference between "deadly" and "non deadly" sin (mortal and venial sin). Yet, one must make reparation even for those venial sins, and thus purgatory, which the Church teaches is real suffering, must exist. A portion of II Maccabees 12:39-46 reads (and this is in the article above), "Therefore, Judas and his men turned to prayer beseeching that the sin which had been committed might be wholly blotted out… He also took up a collection… and sent it to Jerusalem to provide for a sin offering. In doing this he acted very well and honorably… Therefore he made atonement for the dead, that they might be delivered from their sin." I realize you may not accept 2 Maccabees as canonical, but if you're interested in diving deeper into mortal vs. venial sin and/or the existence of purgatory, investigating the canonicity of the deuterocanonical books is a good place to start. After all, if the scripture quote above is canonical, it definitely impacts the argument. This is a great debate on the topic: kzread.info/dash/bejne/n6B3qMqtg6qxj9o.html God Bless you!
