Knowing how Pat’s memories work now (he himself acting out everything), maybe Crazy Talk has a chance of activating IN his head whenever he tries to recall an event, so he just explains things weird with full confidence…?

The crouch just made me realize, in the OG many of Leon’s react commands to enemy attacks would be a crouch so now I’m guessing you will not be prompted and will have to instinctively crouch to dodge let’s say the Gigante Tree throw

Random aside, it makes me happy that Pat still calls the chainsaw guys Salvadores. 'Cause I still call them Dr. Salvadore, but I asked a bunch of people who played the original game about it recently, and they said they never called him that. I know it's like a Mr. X situation where it technically isn't his official name, but come on, it's a cool name.

It actually is his real name. If you play the Merchants Gun Range, you can unlock the bottle cap treasures. On the Chainsaw Man bottle cap, he is actually called Dr. Salvador.

@@greglyhoblit I think the remake matches that tension by making the enemies much tougher. Playing through the OG village after the Demo is night and day in terms of aggression. Like you can’t even get every item out of the shotgun house without every entrance busting open in remake.

It was an adjustment, but the original RE4 still exists, gets released on every platform and isn’t the kind of outdated game that “needs” remaking anyway. This isn’t a FF7 situation where I felt the game actually just needed an update to bring it up to modern standards and thus something was lost in changing significant things about it

Where is Woolie getting his info about the "horrible" base PS4's performance from? The game runs SURPRISIGNLY good on a base PS4, it's hanging around in 40-50 fps territory, and while it sucks Capcom didn't provide an option to cap it in 30 for a more stable experience, it's FAR from unplayable, some of the textures and lighting can look a bit wonky in places, yes, (there's literally a couple of wall textures that look like PS1 era textures, I'm not even kidding) but it overall looks pretty good for 2023 game running on 2012/13 hardware. EDIT: I've also heard it sits comfortably on 60 fps on PS4 PRO, I can't test that myself because I have a base PS4 model but that's the info I gathered online.

This i can agreed, i play the demo on my PS4 Slim and it play fine, good even, for granted it doesn't run super smoothly but isn't unplayable by any means, also, we kinda already have a look to the PS4 version of SF6, we get a look to the Arcade version of SF6 that would be on par with the PS4 version (I think) and it look fine, at least to me it did, this is Woolie "my brain is fck up" Madden here, he probably heard something like a negative opinion from some random whatever source and his stupid brain just think is some form of official information/state, Woolie's know from pulling stuff like this in the past.

Re4r on the PS4 is playable. I have played both. You can totally see the difference and PS5 is substantially better. It feels nice that it's this way round though, that the Ps5 is being made use of, and the ps4 version is lacking. Rather than a lot of cross gen games which feel like the ps5 version is redundant. The ps5 version of this absolutely feels like how it should be

I watched Digital Foundry's vid and I gotta say that the PS4 version still looks surprisingly well. I've played the demo on PC myself, and it looked absolutely amazing, but that RE Engine is something else with what they can queeze out of that PS4 version.

So, I know everyone's saying RE5 remake next, but with Pat drawing the comparison to Crimson Heads, I feel like REmake Remake isn't off the table. Also, I feel like for RE5make to have any impact, REMake Remake and CVmake need to happen, first.

My only question is: how do we unlock the infinite durability knife that will let us have a parry only run?

Would not be surprised if one of the things you can buy with points for future runs is just Krausers knife and it has a much higher durability, or even infinite durability. The only thing I'm iffy on is the pre order bonus adding in more guns, which are a lever action shotgun and apparently a gun based off the one Leon uses in the CG movies.

Funny how the infinite knife you can unlock is Leon's original knife from RE4

Furthermore, a perfect parry can cut off the arm of the attacker. And a follow-up perfect parry will kill the enemy.

I feel like if you replay this game a bunch of times or clear this at the highest difficult the knife becomes unbreakable or get a new unbreakable blade/gear that just Royal Guard lol.

okay woolie is straight up wrong about last gen performance. digital foundry said the regular ps4 runs around 45 fps and they showed how it performs.

Judging by the reviews this game will be POYO amazing!

I did as well, but I don’t know if I’d go as far to say it ran well. Sure, the FPS was pretty stable (if lowered of course), but some models and textures were definitely sacrificed. Also, my fan was working overtime just by browsing the settings. It’s not the end of the world, but I’m sure it’a going to have rough patches, especially during the rainy segments. Definitely impressive given the hardware though.

I’m just thinking that if my PS4 could barely handle the opening house with some textures that looked like they came from the GCN original, then they have an uphill battle for the later areas with weather effects. Again, I don’t think Capcom did a bad job, but… maybe wait for the digital foundry vid imo.

One gripe I have with RE4R is that Leon uses what looks like some cheap mass produced knife, instead of the custom knife he used in the original. Idk, replacing iconic weaponry with generic ones doesn't really sit right with me. Like how they got rid of Jill's Samurai edge in RE3R and replaced it with 2 freaking glocks

Jill canonically still uses the Samurai Edge, it's the gun she pulls on Nemesis in her apartment at the start of REmake 3, and it's a NG+ reward that's just overall better than the Glock. Would it have been nice to see more of it? Eh probably, but that and Leon's knife are pretty much the only iconic weapons missing since he still has the Matilda in REmake 2 and REmake 4's arsenal is pretty much the same with new guns (i.e MP5 going off the trailer) on top of the old ones.

In the same secret area you get the SMG you can also pick up a kitchen knife. So that basically confirms that you're not necessarily stuck with the default. It's possible they've turned "knives" into a weapon type, like pistols, shotguns, rifles, etc.

Did you know there's also dmc style ranking system in re4r? SphereHunter does, unfortunately her review got taken down :(

I think CapGod saw/watched all of the "can you do xyz with the knife in RE4" videos and decided to make this game a definitive "Yes. You can do bullshit with the knife."

It's the Dead Space Remake deal. I'd prefer new stuff too but if a proper Remake does the original justice then there's no viable argument about why not have a Remake so they zero in on the tiny shit.

The RE4re knife is almost as good as Code: Veronica’s knife. Almost.

If it's not an official DLC I fully expect people to mod the hell out of this game to just turn Leon into Dante. juggling Ganados and jumping into ariel gun combos while shouting "TRICKSTER!"

18:35 RE5 had more melee interactions than 4. Plus it had actual twinstick camera control instead whatever the fukc 4's camera is that was based on the gamecube's c-stick when it was still 'nintendo exclusive'

Its a joke regarding the location in the classic game. The game never specifically says it happens in Spain. Its always called the "village in rural Europe"

well if if they remake re5 the only thing they can actually upgrade mechanically is coop (duh), but because its coop they should add character specific traits like chris doesnt need a knife at all aka the fuggin boulder puncher, and sheva should be hyper mobile and technique oriented just like it says in here original bio when selecting characters in re5 chapter select. theyre probable gonna be too lazy like in re3r and and remove mercenaries mode (i hope not) but if they do i hope they add more campaigns like in re2r where u can play as leone, claire, hunk, ect. so that maybe chris and sheva get their own, of course lost in nightmares, and maybe stories for the bad guys. re5 was my favorite game in the series so i PRAY! its gonna be perfect and unique.

I think it'd be cool if the jump from rear to refiver was less about player movement and flashiness and more about being a freaking combat brute. Let Leon be the acrobat superhero and make Chris just straight up murder dudes with his bare boulder-punching hands.

I'm personally hoping for: Code Veronica Remake New RE Game And RE5 Remake In that particular order.

Street Fighter 6 should be perfectly fine on PS4. Devil May Cry 5 had no problem at all running at 60 fps on a PS4 (or at least on Pro) in RE Engine. I wouldn’t expect SF6 to have a harder time running than DMC5.

Woolie is basically just Matt now with how little he interacts with the medium outside his niche.

I want to be skeptical, but I'm also incredibly hopeful. RE3 wasn't nowhere near a cultural phenomenon as RE4 was. If they fuck up RE4 of all games then they'd be losing my trust actually forever fr fr, but nah I don't think this is the one people should be skeptical of. Maybe the new mainline RE game will be mid, cos personally the Rose DLC for Village was kinda....alright. Definitely underwhelming and not worth the price tag for me.

yeah, i will say i'm actually pretty frustrated the discussion around the yellow paint has been sorta boiled down to "is proper conveyance good and important in video games?" cause that's a one and done discussion with a strawman where the only actual answer is "yes, duh". the actual meat of everyone's feelings on it is Absolutely the artistic implementation of it here in the remake. shame that the discussion was sparked from such a fire-and-forget thoughtless one-off tweet that the guy probably didn't think anyone would read! personally, the way it's handled here ironically takes me even more out of it (more than it even does for say, Uncharted or Horizon) cause it's integrated into the world in such a tacky way that it makes me start asking questions, wondering if there's like a helpful off-screen Ganado was strolling around with a paintbrush or something. if they went with the shine or lack of lighting from previous RE games I would have less of a problem, since it's more obvious and my brain can look past with a simple "ah ok, that's an obvious gameplay contrivance, that's not Really There" and I can move on.

Poyo!

I’m using a mod to get rid of the yellow paint and tape from the game. It’s so much more immersive that way. And the ladders and boxes are still very apparent that you can interact with them. The boxes and crates you can break still look different than the boxes that can’t be broken and they are easily recognizable. Gamers aren’t that dumb. We can figure out what is breakable or not

Actually we are dumb. They had to add yellow paint because most of the testers didn't know where to go or what to break

So how "character action" can "survival horror" become before all these genres descriptions lose all meaning? I'm glad to see these two excited for a game, but my excitement for the game itself?... IDK, man, I'm glad the existing fans are excited because as a non-OG RE4 player, I'm pretty meh on this ongoing remake process.

Woolie should play Resident Evil 6 for himself. Maybe, specifically, the The Mercenaries stuff first after watching a video about how to play the game...since RE6 does a pretty terrible job of explaining to the player how it should be played, and playing it like RE4 and 5, or trying to play it like a cover shooter will end up with you running out of ammo fast. Pat seems to Woolie’s main source of RE6 info, and not only is Pat wrong about RE6, Pat really sucks at the game. Might be better to play with an actual person too.

What's with the Kirby sound tho? You never needed it before, it's annoying.

KZread has been cracking down on cursing lately, and this is their only option with random clips from a long podcast. I do agree the sound is annoying, and should be replaced with something else.
