    Pat expressing true joy at an outside activity he didn't expect to like so much is genuinely nice to see. It's becoming really clear that moving to BC was the best thing for him and Paige's mental AND physical health. Sea sickness sucks regardless though. That shit will stay with you all day if it's bad enough, you'll be watching a movie or eating dinner, but your body will still feel like it's trying to stabilize on the rocking deck.

    The feeling after you’ve been told a particular town is a shit-hole, then going through it and finding it’s actually pretty nice happens a lot in the states. I think it comes from people having automatic disdain toward their hometowns.

    Haha, I went to Goats on the Roof when I was 18 with my family with a freshly broken arm after high school graduation. (Broken arm was unrelated to the trip) From what I remember of the place you missed nothing, as the goats didn't do shit on that roof other than sleep, chew grass and stare blankly at the tourists.

    I've been to Vancouver island via the opposite end (Coming up from Port Angeles, WA) and yes, it is very pretty. It was very odd exploring around Victoria and it's literally just across the sound.

    In the case of Canada, Ottawa was deemed easier to defend in case of invasion, and is on the border of Quebec and Ontario (which made up the country at the time) Population is not the primary reason for choosing a capital.

    Countries in the Americas the capital was usually designated long before that country's modern borders as they exist today are. I'm not American but just from looking at maps, Washington DC was much closer to the "center" of the country when the nation started which meant someone in the north never had to travel all the way to the southern end to get there and vice versa. Same reason I think the majority of their state capitals are in the dead center of the state, a form of equality in travel time.
