Requiem flies a Tiger Moth at Duxford

Ойындар

This video is just me getting to fly a Tiger Moth in real life at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford. There's no commentary or anything...just the communications between myself and the other pilot.

My first and last flight in a Tiger Moth was on the Gold Coast about 30 yrs ago. I always thought after that experience I would learn to fly but I never have disappointingly as there have been practical financial barriers. At Duxford, what an experience!!!

Very cool! That must have been awesome flying along the coast there. Being from NSW I always loved visiting QLD. I couldn't afford to learn how to fly in Australia either, or at all to be honest, I was just very fortunate that being in the US was where someone helped me become a pilot here.

Lol - I have done this, at that airport, only the Tigermoth I went up in was Yellow! I have now about 4 hours in the Stearman, and just bought my own RV-7 to really start building tailwheel time. Congrats! Super cool!

Nice. I live near Duxford and see Tiger moths every day (well less so in November) so probably saw you fly over.

Yeah the weather was dissapointing lol I had to reschedule this flight once aleeady at the time and wasn't sure if I would get to go up. It was a pretty low pvercast so it ended up being a general sightseeing flight. Still a great experience though, maybe I'll get the Harvard next time

The pilot is a real nice man. So happy with this change to the channel. Just my only remark is to suggest investing in a 360 camera so we can see what you can also see. It would also make this a worthwhile experience to those of us that cant afford to be there. Other than this, I am very happy with it.

Thanks, it's nice to get to share when I get to fly in RL. I can't do that normally since it's prohibited for airline flights here in the US. It definitely would have been nice to get a frontal shot for the flight, but even without one I couldn't pass up flying this plane without buying the video footage! Thanks for the advice though, if I get to do more of these in the future I'll keep the extra angles in mind and will invest in a GoPro or something.

Brilliant! Looked like a blast! Sounds like you need as much footwork to keep it coordinated as in a glider! Glad you got the opportunity to fly it; very envious!

  • @RequiemsACTL

Yeah for sure, I've flown gliders as well so good footwork is essential. It was just really nice to fly along so slowly as it had been several years since I flew anything but jets!

Well I hope you get more opportunities to do some general aviation flying even though you're a fancy ATP now! I love my simpit but there's just nothing quite like being in the real cockpit. (I know I'm preaching to the choir haha)

Ive been kicking those sailplane pedals all day and this thread reminded me to say: Thanks, mate for A) taking me along on this trip virtually and B) giving so many of us a leg up on flying- and doing it correctly- along with you on so many great simulations. You are a National Treasure and finding your channel was like being reborn!

I got to ride in a Boeing Stearman in September of last year. Not only was it my first time in a biplane, but it was my first time in a plane at all. I enjoyed it, and I hope to go on another flight at some point in the future. Then again, I might get a pilot's license and fly a small Cessna around the US to visit some relatives, see some things I want to see from a cool perspective, or even just because I can. I might only fly during the day when the weather's good, but I'll have a good time. Being a passenger is great, but being an active participant is even better.

  • @RequiemsACTL

Wow awesome, a Stearman ride is definitely on my bucket list! Having the pilot's license is great if you can get it..if you want it just for recreation then make sure to get the instrument rating too. This gives you more flexibility and will make you a more rounded pilot to boot. There really is something different about flying when you're the one in the seat controlling it. Pure freedom 😊

@@RequiemsACTL Maybe you'll get to ride in a Stearmen before too long, but there's no way of knowing with 100% certainty. If I'm going through flight training, I'm gonna get my instrument rating before I leave so I can fly IFR if needed, but I'll generally fly VFR so I can enjoy the scenery on the way.

Had a 50th birthday flight in a Tiger Moth at Compton Abbas many years ago. Loved every minute. Was surprised at how much more resistance the wings had compared to the Chipmunks I flew in as a cadet. Flying from Duxford would be a dream; I need to lose a fair bit of weight first though...
