Either by her colleagues who warned her just how deep the Israel support runs in this country, or by herself as she observed the countless number of careers that were abruptly cut short due to pro-Palestinian sentiments. @@sdgdhpmbp _(Please forgive the pomposity of my verbosity in this lengthy reply.....)_ She is likely coached in regard to every public move she makes. However, before I rebut your comment, let me thank you for the first intelligent opinion _(with which I disagree)_ that puts forth that she was not in error, but rather, as you stated. I get pretty tired of playing Whac-A-Mole with children, as has occurred elsewhere on this page, so again, thanks for putting forth a friendly and reasonable intelligent argument. I submit, however that your Achilles heel is that _"...she went slow to choose her words"._ Assuming she was as you say coached and well prepared; as I believe she always is, then she would have expected this volatile point to come up, and would have already planned how she would respond; and not hesitated in the moment on camera, as she did. I submit that based upon the context of her rhetoric and considering the source _(herself),_ that it was a rare momentary lapse of reason, which I have never seen before with AOC, and would not expect. But it happens. She is human. We dunno what kind of day she had, my friend. She didn't need anyone to tell her how deep the support for Israel goes. She knows. Nor would she be inclined to minimize the point, other than to use a much better choice of words to maintain, as you suggest, diplomacy so as not to alienate the hard core IDF supporters, AND avoid derailing the interview in one swell foop. She is not among those who wish to justify or minimize what happened, and she has been pretty clear about that. The gist of my argument is supported by her entire history and its outspoken consistency, like Katie Porter; and just like Jamie Raskin, Senator Whitehouse, or Bernie...... she is always prepared, fearless, brilliant, and can cut MTG and Lowrent Boobhurt to ribbons before breakfast on her worst day. And I have never seen a hint of her playing the attractive woman card, which is why those on the right single her out, but not Katie Porter. But I digress. I further submit that if you are correct, that contradicts her entire history and consistently progressive clearly stated position. I believe her awareness of the potential rabbit hole on this point caused her to attempt to strike a balance between openly telling it like it is and doing what she did, which is totally drop the ball. I say it was a bit of brain freeze, and nothing more. Had she been blunt, which is necessary but not necessarily then and there... _(timing is everything....)._ If she had done it there it could have derailed the rest of the interview and dominated it, as well as alienated some she is actively trying to enlist in support, as you stated. Sorry for the length of this reply. I could go on, but I trust you see my POV. Thanks again for the reasonable, intelligent reply. Cheers. *_"If we had some ham, we could have some ham and eggs, if we had some eggs."_* ~~ Groucho Marx

Global power relationships shift slowly, much more slowly that I (and most of us) would like to see. But there is a shift in the wind, it seems to me. The Israeli state, and in particular Netanyahu, has demonstrated an unwillingness to exhibit and occupy a moral high ground. The U.S. has demonstrated its support for Israel, rhetorically and militarily. Now, it would be hard to argue a lack of U.S. support for Israel if it shifted its effective policy toward Israel by conditioning further foreign aid to Israel with requirements that it abide by international law and respect and protect human rights in the region. And backing that up. That could, it seems to me, have positive impacts in that region and also strengthen the U.S. morally and relationally in the eyes of the world.

@@alexander_d1277 A few years ago, an Israeli filmmaker made an Oscar-nominated documentary about the Israeli domestic secret service Shin Bet. It was about defending against terrorist attacks and how the secret service eliminated opponents. What was most interesting, however, was that 5 former directors of this organization (all generals) reported from the inside and how they see the actions of their state. The film is called "The Gatekeepers". I strongly recommend watching this film to get a better sense of reality... European here btw...
