This was a pretty big misstep. If anything, they should have started off with the Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde movie; that way they could have set up his character better and shown us how his organization came about. Heck, they could have thrown in a reference to the mummy with the Eye of Ra or something from Egyptian mythology sitting on his desk at the end; maybe a scroll depicting the princess or something.

Maybe with Van Hellsings descendant collecting the most powerful monsters to help them against threats to humanity. Or Dr. Frankenstein and Van Hellsing founded finding these monsters. Or maybe, if they use Dr Jekyll, maybe this organization is finding these creatures to trap them.

You know how you make a Universal Monsters cinematic universe? _parody them._ Lead up to something akin to Hotel Transylvania. You can't do it seriously because the monsters are supposed to be the antagonists, so they're killed off or defeated at the end of every movie, and besides you can't bring them all together in an Avengers-style mass crossover because too many monsters or villains make the movie cluttered and disorganized. You have to parody the concept and make them lovable protags otherwise you don't have any realistic crossover material.

34:02 - 34:14 @Renegade Media Group It's funny that you mentioned Hayden Christensen, Micah, because now I feel Universal missed an opportunity. You know how in Hammer Horror, the company that remade gory versions of Universal's classics, with actors like Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, and David Prowse, who went on to play in Star Wars, both the original trilogy and prequel trilogy? Had Hayden played Nick Morton instead of Tom Cruise, it kinda would've been a *full circle* when it comes to Universal's Monsters as James put it. Hammer Horror remade Universal's Monster icons, Star Wars casts Hammer Horror icons in their movies, and then Universal reboots their Monster icons *with* a Star Wars icon in the movie.

If you want to read about a big crossover monster universe, go look up the World of Darkness. The Old World of Darkness has vampires, werewolves, wizards, ghosts, the fae, mummies, demons and those who hunt them; the New World of Darkness has vampires, werewolves, mages, Frankenstein's monster and friends, the fae, dead people who are possessed by ghosts and now have a ghost riding shotgun on their soul like Ryuk except instead of getting a Death Note they get freaky ghost powers, mummies, demons by way of The Matrix meets Dogma, various other beasties, people turned into inhuman things and the humans who hunt all of them. A lot of fun, but it's a lot of reading.

One more thing to point out though. It has become very hard to make movies and not steal something -intentionally or unintentionally- from at least one other movie or show these days.

I love watching these reactions and reviews and learned something after hearing one of them say that sand and glass are the same thing. Glass is little more than liquid sand. Now this movie did have it's downsides but I can say that I understood it even if others don't. Amanhet killed her brother, father and his missus after making a deal with Set as revenge for having a boy and taking the throne away from her.

This movie would've been great, had it not been for the oversized ego of Tom Cruise. You look on wikipedia page for this film, it states that Cruise re-wrote the script to his liking, changed post-production process, made his character more important than the mummy, changed stunt designs that made other people sick, overshadowing the director, and everything else! Universal admitted to giving Cruise excessive control over most aspects from script to filming to editing.

Box Office Bomb: Like Dracula Untold before it, the film had a dire domestic box office, this time from having the misfortune of the Wonder Woman juggernaut being a direct competitor. While international numbers were far better (including the biggest first weekend totals ever in South Korea), leading to an overall intake of $409 million against a budget between $125m and $195m, it was far below the studio's hopes for their big entry into the shared universe bandwagon. It proceeded to get trounced even further two weeks later by Transformers: The Last Knight, even as that film itself was performing well below expectations.

What I think would have actually made the movie at least more interesting, would have been if Tom Cruise's character actually fell under Ahmanet's spell and willingly (as much as you can while enthralled that is) joined her to become Set. Maybe have him playing the part of a reluctant sacrifice while secretly working to help Ahmanet. That way we not only would still have the mummy in future movies in the Dark Universe, but we'd also have Set in human form with his godlike demon powers, thus setting up a Thanos-level threat that will eventually need to be dealt with. It'd also be interesting to see how things played out if the blonde chick survived, possibly having a scene or two with Set mocking her naïveté in a belief that his host either is still within him or "has good in him still" before ripping her spine out. Not to mention if Set succeeded in truly coming back, it'd be a harsh blow to Jekyll and his organization, resulting in doubt of their ability to succeed in their mission in future movies. Plus, we'd still Ahmanet in all her sexy undead glory for more films! But sadly that would never happen, cause God forbid Tom Cruise actually play a VILLAIN for once...

I had my dog in enclosed area, but when another dog came around, she tunnled under a fence to start barking (not attacking) at it and the owner yells at me for it. And the main thing was that my dog is a chuahua and theirs was a really big breed. Jerk >:( their dog was cute, though

Nate, you need to read the LXG comics. Because there's a few things you should understand. 1. Mina's husband didn't die. She divorced him after the incident with Dracula. 2. Mr. Hyde has a nobility to him that is glossed over in the movie. 3. Quatermain is a drugged out adventurer who doesn't really want anything to do with fights. 4. The Invisible Man is a psychopath with delusions of grandeur, who actually turns on the League and teams up with the Martians from THE WAR OF THE WORLDS.

This is probably the only movie wherein which Tom Cruise was permitted by the mystery gods of Ancient Egypt to reveal to mankind the Occult Dianetic Secrets of Scientology's OT Levels 9 and 10: As effectively having become by his own hand Homo Setis, without so rendering the demise of his present earthly life in utter destructive penury as a result. Not bad for an early Friday morning in Hollywood at the Break of Dawn; I can tell you.

I think it has to be the dumb worshipping of Tom Cruise in the movie. He is the 'Chosen One' or some Bullcrap. In the 1999 movie, they did kill him by using a powerful relic to weaken him. At least there, he was fighting against them before he died. In this one, Cruise gets to be a god of death (even though Set is the god of desert storms and discord) and easily kills the mummy. Nothing suspenseful about it, and he brought lead female role back to life (even though that is stupid considering he's supposed to be a death god, obviously going against their rules). And for a shared universe, this was stupid to kill off the first monster for a bland guy and his annoying as hell friend. This was movie was a sandstorm disaster when they announced Cruise as one of the lead roles.

To be fair in regard to Cruise holding the pistol sideways in the plane, since he was all pressed against the wall, desperately trying to distance himself from the lunatic with the knife, holding it sideways was really the only way to point it at him from that position. Not that this improves the movie in any capacity, but still.
