He clearly states in his song "Hunger" he's an "anti-capitalist pissed off rebel" Ren has spoke on this in his interview with Knox Hill....and YES, its the greed that destroys anything that could be beneficial in it. Being anti capitalist doesn't mean we don't deal with money in the world. For me, it means I RESENT THAT THIS IS THE WAY of the world. We HAVE to deal with money...That's just the way it is. Doesn't mean I have to fkn like it.

There's no real order to the songs on the album, and not all songs are about his illness either. Many of them are (Seven Sins, Sick Boi, Lost All Faith, Genesis, Illest Of Our Time, The Hunger, Masochist, Sick Boi pt 2) but it's mainly a rap themed album. There are some pure fun, cheeky songs too like Loco, Down on The Beat, Uninvited, What you Want, Love music pt 4.

From the album (perhaps) "Seven sins", "Masochist", "Lost all Faith". These are good songs to appreciate REN's phases in the worst period of his illness. "Castles made of sand" I also really like. More recently, a more fun and unpretentious side perhaps in "Uninvited". The 4 parts "Love Music" are also great... "Dominoes", Humble"... the portfolio is extensive!... Enjoy!

💯Sick Boi has a darker theme. Most of the album was written years ago during a very dark period of Ren’s life. He has a tendency to write songs and then set on them for quite some time (finished or unfinished). He has stated in an interview that he’s probably has a 1000 songs he’s just setting on. His intelligence and talent is both fascinating and overwhelming. I think at times having a brain that operates at such a high capacity would be quite unsettling. Great reaction, Izzy. I always appreciate your analysis. Have a nice weekend. 😉❤️‍🔥✌️

Good morning from Connecticut USA! What I love most about your reactions, particularly to Ren's music, is your thoughtful consideration and attention to detail as you know Ren is meticulous about the choices he makes with his videos (I agree that his is a cinematic expression of making music). I find it fascinating to sit with anticipation as you pause and take the time to tune inward, process your feelings, contemplate, then articulate your impressions with such intelligence and clarity. As for Ren's Sick Boi album, I'm thinking that the songs are in their particular order for a reason. You've already reacted to some of them: 1. Seven Sins 2. Sick Boi 3. Animal Flow 4. Money Game Pt. 3 5. Lost All Faith 6. Genesis 7. Murderer 8. Suicide 9. Illest Of Our Time 10. Love Music Pt. 4 11. Uninvited 12. What You Want 13. The Hunger 14. Down On The Beat 15. Masochist 16. Loco 17. Wicked Ways 18. Sick Boi Pt. 2 Ren released an additional song called, Castles Made of Sand (amazing), but I think it's a thank you bonus track for purchasing his album? Not sure. Someone else could give more info. I couldn't find it on Ren's main channel. Thanks for another great reaction! 🙋‍♀️💖

Supposedly, this is what Ren wished he had said to all those doctors and therapists that kept prescribing pills instead of listening to him snd trying to find an answer. Yes, same room as Hi Ren.This was released 1st after Hi Ren. The therapist is soooo wrong in feeling tone and approach. This is seen as a companion piece to Hi Ren. . Hi Ren stands alone. The Sick Boi album was supposed to be tbe DARK album and was to be all hip hop. Not all tracks were related to his illness though. There are some songs written years earlier, like the Hunger (2015) . The most recently written song was Seven Sins which was written as an intro song for the album...but he got carried away!😂 He had most of the album finished long before Hi Ren. It was meant and WAS, dribbled out while he was first in Canada, because he knew he would not be able to write and produce when under treatment. The first 3 months his mind was too affected by treatment. He would release a song and spend hours on twitch with us building community. He never thought things would take off for him and says Sick Boi was a kind of throw-away album. Can you imagine???? The next album was supposed to be LIGHT, and more classic song based and concentrate on his experience of the sound of 90s brit pop influences. Chilli Peppers,Police, etc. THAT album is now on hold a bit while he finishes abd released Slaughterhouse (soon) which is more song, some rap , and several collaborations. Don't think there is any specific order to do the album Sick Boi in. There are 18 songs. He has a ocd thing where it has to be even # unless 11 or 15 .😅 He's wacky, but we love him. The only album songs added from Canada ,I think, are Seven Sins and Su!c!de. Most of his acoustic versions tho were written in Canada as he got better. Oh! MONEY Game 3 was written in Canada to prove that Hi Rwn was not a fluke.

Can you imagine how many times he heard the same words from different doctors? I do think it is the same basement room from "Hi Ren". Wonder if they had permission to film this time? Somehow, I doubt it. 😉 Ren and Sam believe in guerilla filming. 😅

I've never heard anybody bring up the doctor's conversations being slightly muffled by the background music/pain. It's such an astute observation. The album is loosely based on this theme; yet also expresses the multiple sides - pain or anger or fun or just vibing. It's mostly hip-hop. I would do the album in order. Seven Sins is in my opinion an epic track.

This is about the medical gaslighting he experienced when he was suffering and his Lyme was misdiagnosed for years as psychological, being told his mind was making his body sick, 'it's all in your head', given psych meds that he actually didn't need & that had really bad side effects. The woman in the video represesnts all of those people. Luckily he finally found a couple good doctors who listened to him, got properly diagnosed & got some treatments (stem cells) that brought him back to life. Unfortunately by getting such a late diagnosis a lot of damage had been done & now he's still got long term health problems.

This song / video gets your attention from the first beat / scene. Ren highlights the faults of the medical system (which i have experienced first hand, over 2 years of visits to different doctors, until one doctor said "may be we should spend some money on you and let you have an MRI scan"! Then they found my problem, Then another year of visits to find pain medication that helped but that left me feeling like a living zombie. I'm rambling sorry).I have never really been a fan of rap music, but Ren has some very good rap songs. As for the album Sick Boi the general theme is mental health and sickness, there are a few fun songs on the album also . Seven Sins, Lost All Faith, Illest Of Our Time, Genisis, Su!clde and What You Want - are my favourites from the album. The Sick Boi album was mainly Ren seeing if he could make a hip-hop album. Thus, musically, it's mainly various forms of rap and/or hip-hop, with a couple of exceptions. Illness is definitely a strong theme. Not just mental and physical illness but societal illness too. Religion pops up quite a bit, often from the position of being outside wanting in, or wanting an explanation, ANY explanation. Sometimes he's just using religious imagery to illustrate his own thoughts and ideas. However, it's not all profundity and doom and gloom, there are some real fun tracks in there too and even the darker tracks tend to have humour in them somewhere. He has a very cheeky, taking the piss, (out of himself, as much as anything) tongue-in-cheek sense of humour and some people miss it and take everything too literally. Most people do get it and appreciate it and realise that he's a witty little fucker and as cheeky as hell, to boot. Qualities which I personally am a big fan of! :)

The concept and groupings or decisions he made for which of his tracks would "make the cut" for his "Sick Boi" album is better explained by Ren in my opinion. The album is a bit all over the place musically. But very common themes in Ren's music are his sickness and then the greed in society. And, as in this song, he often draws similarity between both, especially in many songs on this album. His body that is destroying itself and the human society that is destroying itself because of greed. Lastly, but importantly, he does not exclude himself of the blame, he plays his part in the money game as we all.

I would appreciate your review of the Sick Boi album. The album doesn't have a unified theme. Parts are very dark, and speak to Ren's illness; and some tracks are just for fun. Not really necessary to look at the songs in the order they appear on the album. But I think Seven Sins, the first track, is as good as any place to start. I don't really listen to the radio, but instead tend to follow artists. Progressive rock was my favorite when I was young, now I guess Post Rock. Uncommonly, I've followed Ren closely now for 18 months and I like the zigs and zags in his catalog. Not everything he does speaks to me equally, but everything is certainly interesting. He's as musically, lyrically and visually creative as anyone making music today.

Another excellent breakdown! Capitalism when I was younger was that anyman could achieve financial security through hard work, ingenuity, creativity, service, etc. I think the capitalism that we are now distrustful of is actually corporatism. But in government terms corporations are now people and so they can still call it capitalism. Then tell us ( in America at least) we are anti- American or socialist when we question or criticize it. Just my take. I also feel a lot of frustration from this track is aimed at the medical communities assessment of how sick you are is based on how much you inconvenience others.

It's a good take! I think you're right and it's something more like a corporate oligarchy now.

I think his commentary towards the end is less about capitalism than it is about consumerism. As always, i appreciate your thoughts and perspective. *Edit: I do recommend buying the album. I think it's well worth it.

@@IzzyIzenstain Thanks, Izzy! I fear my "good point to listens ratio" is nowhere near as good as your own. I must've heard the song 50+ times by now.

The phone booth or whatever that is a freaky movie that’s probably a good comparison too to the way that he felt. Black phone that might be the title, but yeah, good analogy. I think the volume being loud over her speaking is because what she’s saying is basically useless. I like how you said that Ebben flow between good and bad. That’s basically what high rent is about correct? He also addresses life being like a dance and the l brighter the light shines the darker of the shadow that it casts. Everyone is not bad, but they certainly are plenty of bad people and it’s a sick race just like you said and his money game series is about green right? And part three where he’s in the wheelchair, he says it’s you it’s me. It’s us it’s we, we’re all part of the money game. It’s in evitable. But you have to have balance like yin and yang and sometimes it’s very difficult, especially in the western world where there’s such an emphasis put on beauty and money and wealth. It’s an interesting topic but I think just about everyone agrees that the past 25 years we’re headed the wrong direction.

It is difficult, but I think that is what we are here for. To practice and overcome those things as best we can.

I think the woman's voice is kind of drowned out because he heard the same thing over and over for years, it was like a broken record, he barely had to pay attention to them anymore, they all said the same (incorrect) stuff. Like the background track to his life. And they weren't listening to him.

I was initially frustrated at not being able to hear her words clearly. I later understood Ren had planned it that way. Her words are not as important as who she represents. Half of what the doctors say is nonsensical anyway and this alludes to that. (having seen enough specialists over the years; there is never enough time in a consult to pull them up on the thins they say that are not clear or logical) Thanks. Edited to add. The way I make sense of it is that once upon a time, our ancestors would have had the elders gather and discuss ostracizing someone from the tribe. If it happened, it was carefully thought out and the consequences (one less person to help with the hunting and building shelters) would have been carefully considered. Today, it seems a small and loud group of nobodies with a ill thought, knee jerk reaction have the vocal (ability through social media), and. therefore, the power to do the same thing (on a whim).
