First Time Hearing Ren - Hi Ren REACTION!!

Музыка

Everything about this video and song was unexpected, but not in a negative way at all, in fact this was probably the most engaging piece of art that we have ever had the pleasure of reacting to.

Things you should know: 1: this was performed live and done in a single take…only took 4 tries. A bunch of his newer videos are like this, including Jenny and Screech 2: Ren has been very sick for a long time. He was bitten by a tick and contracted Lyme disease. He was misdiagnosed for many years and treated for mental disorders instead of the actual disease he had. The combination of the psychiatric drugs he took and years of untreated Lyme disease left him in a state where he would spend 23 hours a day in bed. He was finally properly diagnosed with Lyme disease and got stem cell treatments that made him feel better, but he is still quite ill. He wrote this song, Sick Boi, and a few others that haven’t come out yet, but is currently in Canada receiving intensive daily treatments so he can’t fully enjoy the success he is finally getting…though he has been watching reaction videos and commenting on them, so don’t be shocked if he drops by. 3: He got his start busking in London and Brighton, is talented in just about every facet of making music, and was signed by Sony right before he got sick. He was unable to produce music so Sony dropped him. 4: he collaborates with lots of other cool artists…you’ll enjoy his collaborations with Chinchilla. He also has a band called The Big Push 5: Go and read his community page…it’s worth it 6: welcome aboard…like another commenter said before me, I can never see this for the first time again, so I watch reaction videos so that I can see other people have that experience…it’s magical SUBSCRIBED!

I think that I know why people say "I usually don't like rap but I like this". This is because Ren is not only a rapper (he did upload some rap clips) but he's also a spoke word poet or a slam poet. This video for me is more a music slam performance than a rap song. However rap is such a wide and diverse style that I would take a step back and study this music variety before claiming that I am not a fan of rap. I mean I do like a lot of rap artists, but I wouldn't stay that I'm a fan of anything nor that I dislike a style because artistry can be delivered in so many ways that there are always a few artists from each genre that I appreciate. Actually on my Spotify playlist I usually don't care about music style but I listen to a variety of artists such as System of a Down, Harry Mack, Little Simz, Ren, Rammstein, Linkin Park, The Ex, Aurora, Bonobo, Portico Quartet, etc. I don't really care about the genre as long as the artist is good at his craft and is delivering something that I like listening to.

This piece has so many layers. A humorous layer. A clever layer. A raw layer. A philosophical layer. A tragic layer. A layer that makes so many people feel like they connect to their own pain, other's pain. You guys were so much in your head, you had very limited emotional connection to a profoundly emotional piece. The way you smiled through it, was very strange to watch.

You’re not wrong, we took a chance on a new song that we wanted to do a completely blind reaction on so in turn we didn’t know his story or his situation. We feel this was a bad move on our part for this song because of the gravity behind it. We’ve listened to it a bunch of times since this reaction and have since changed our tunes. Because of our ignorance with this we reacted to it at face value. We usually don’t react to something with so much depth we weren’t prepared mentally and again not knowing his story, we paid more attention to the melody and his actions, which caused us to smile and bob our heads(mainly to when he started to bob his head) we meant no disrespect or to insult him. We’re not very happy with how this turned out especially after finding out what this was actually about. Thank you for being nice about this and hope you give us another shot. Cheers!

@@jordanamandareact I'm not judging, just giving you something to think about. I watched over 50 reactions to that video. I found this interesting phenomenon-there were a few reactors who did a great job analyzing it from a particilar perspective, but it was like they were analyzing a basketball game. Most people reacted to this with significant emotion. I have seen people cry, many sayiing they get goosbumps, be profoundly moved, etc. You see emotion coming through on every level. Just pointing it out for self-awareness. Not sure what it says, but it says something. I found it a little unnerving, but that is just me. My guess is other people may feel similar, and I would want that type of feedback if I were in your shoes.

@@TheBigburcie It is a very deep emotional piece that is only entertaining becuse of his theatrics, writing, levity, musical genius, and yes, a very dark sense of humor. It is pure authenticity. As someone who went through something similar as him, you get a very dark sense of humor. It astounds me when people can just look at this piece emotionally detached and only see it through whatever discipline they see it through. It is very uncommon, but it is striking when I see it. The worst one was actually a therapist. It scared the shit out of me for his clients. (Another psychology professor started a course around it.) I have watched 1almost 10f reactiions from all different perspectives and it was such a wonderful exercise in humility. So many people from random backgrounds (Musicians, neurobiologist, rappers, composers, metal heads, rednecks, performance coaches, people with the same disease, etc) and so many people saw things and noticed things that I didn't. The power of perspective. If you think about how many views he got so quickly, then add the number of views everyone who is reacing creates, and the conversations it is starting, This isn't a song. It is becoming a movement.

“Hi Ren" is the song that put Ren on everyone's radar since December; it went viral and has garnered more than 6 million views since its debut, but he has been creating great music for more than ten years. Ren’s music videos are generally recorded live, often in a single take, although not necessarily the first take, and from various camera angles. His release, "Sick Boi," is almost another chapter to "Hi Ren." Many of Ren’s songs resonate with people because he addresses struggles that many others face every day. Ren plays multiple instruments (acoustic, electric, and bass guitar, piano, drums), has impressive vocals, is an excellent storyteller, and is quite the philosopher and poet. He is considered by many a modern bard; he calls his music “bardcore.” Ren’s earliest recordings on KZread are from his time in a band called “Trick The Fox,” consisting of Ren and his buddies Charlie and Tommy. Unfortunately, the band performed only briefly due to Ren’s onset of health issues. They are very talented. A fun clip to watch is “The Mash Up.” Ren’s trilogy "The Tale of Jenny/Screech/Violet" has been likened to a Shakespearean tragedy and is a prime example of his genius; it is a master’s class in storytelling and also showcases his guitar skills. The three acts are haunting, and the conclusion will catch you off guard. The trilogy needs to be watched in the order given, as this is the flow of the storyline and is best watched as a whole rather than piecemeal. Ren’s collaborations with Chinchilla (“Chalk Outlines,” “How to Be Me,” “Sexual Healing,” “One Dance/Drunk in Love”) are beautiful and showcase his singing voice. His live music videos are especially impressive. Ren's personal reflections are threaded through many of his songs; "Insomnia," "Depression," “Diazepam," “Penitence,” “Dear God,” “Heretic,” “Dominos,” his "Freckled Angels" album, just to name a few, all deserve a listen. His song "Money Game" (Part I & II) is another recommendation, although it is less of a personal song than it is an indictment of greed and the resulting injustices in this world. Ren’s Hip Hop/Rap style songs are all worth checking out if you enjoy this genre; they are pretty amazing. Check out “The Hunger,” “Genesis,” “What You Want,” “Losing it (FISHER rap retake),” “Right here, right now (Fatboy Slim one shot retake),” "Life is Funny," “Love Music (Parts 1, 2, and 3),” “Crucify Your Culture,” “Power,” and his latest release, “Bittersweet symphony (The Verve retake).” As I recently discovered, Ren also recorded a cover of “Can't Help Falling In Love (Elvis Cover),” that is simply beautiful. Then there are his performances with Sam Tompkins (“Blind Eyed,” “Earned it /Mans World / Falling,” “Walking on the moon/No Diggity”), Eden Nash (“Humble,” “Ocean”), Bibi (“Crutch,” “Ahiahiaoha”), Molly McKinna (“Penitence”), his former bandmate, Romain Axisa (“French Song”), which are all great. "The Big Push" busking sessions, concerts, and live recordings all are awesome and well worth checking out. Their covers of "I Shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop," "Wade in the Water/Nina Simone/Trouble so Hard," "An Englishman in New York," “Bongo Bong,” “War Pigs,” the songs "Oh My Woman," “Swan Song,” “Sweet Little Lady," "It's Alright," "Watch Out," “Dignity,” and so many others are equally impressive. In anticipation of his stay in Canada for more treatments, Ren prepared some music ahead of time to be released over the next six months that he expects to be gone. He released “Sick Boi” and “Bittersweet Symphony (The Verve retake),” which is another masterful work. Ren has hinted that he might release his newest song on March 29, which is his birthday.

That was a fun " Hi Ren" Roller-coaster reaction to take with you both! I reckon if you try a trilogy of tragic tales Ren does titled "Jenny and Screech's tale ( which ends with Violet's tale) you can find all 3 together on one video that Ren released. A heads up though he takes you into the stories with him and they are violent in nature, but how he does it so medieval Bard like in one take walking through alleyways of Brighton, England at night, just him and his guitar is absolutely stunning.

He's special. Truly. Listen to " The Tale of Jenny & Screech", it's 3 songs that create a story and you need to find the FULL version to get all 3 in the proper order....I promise, your jaws will drop. For something more upbeat and fun, listen to "Power" and "What you want". They'll both make you smile. Welcome to the Ren rabbit-hole! It's a fun ride.

Here is some information on Ren's story, in case you didn't already know. I gathered it from old newspaper interviews, articles, and Ren's livestreams and posts where he discussed his condition. Ren Eryn Gill is a British musician/independent artist; born in Wales on March 29, 1990, he grew up in Brighton. Ren pursued a career in music from an early age. In 2009, while studying music performance at Bath Spa University, he began to experience health issues and was struggling to attend his lectures. In 2010, he was signed by Sony Records and was working on an album when his health deteriorated to the point where he was unable to continue and subsequently dropped by Sony. Ren's illness often kept him in bed for up to 23 hours daily. Ren was initially misdiagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, and chronic fatigue syndrome, which led him to experience psychosis. It would take seven years before a doctor in Belgium finally correctly diagnosed Ren with autoimmunity, Lyme disease, and resulting damage to the brain, organs, joints, and PTSD. Ren eventually underwent stem cell therapy in the United States, which improved his health, but it has not been a cure. Ren is currently in Canada for more treatments, including surgeries, and will have to be there for at least six months (Summer of 2023). Ren’s Canadian doctor discovered that Ren also developed a condition called Mast Cell Activation Disorder, which has affected the myelin sheath in his brain, his thyroid, adrenals, as well as his bones/joints. Ren stated: "It's a lot to wrap my head around having to be away from friends, family, and a successful career, and almost feels like a total juxtaposition to the fact that my music is blowing up right now and spreading to all corners of the world, but that's life, we take the good with the bad." Ren’s recent wisdom tooth removal went well, but he is currently battling an infection following cavitation surgery, and he is not feeling well. Let's keep supporting Ren as he undergoes his treatments. Check out and subscribe to his channel, listen to some of his earlier work, like and comment on his performances, and let's lift Ren's spirits. If you are a believer, pray for him. Let's keep supporting Ren and not pull a "Sony" on him as he undergoes his treatment. Check out his channel, listen to some of his earlier work, like and comment on his performances, and let's lift Ren's spirits. If you are a believer, pray for him. Ren is an artist with something to say to this generation, and his work is needed in these troubling times. Here is the link to Ren’s GoFundMe page to raise money for his current treatment. www.gofundme.com/f/ren-get-better-from-lyme-disease-and-autoimmuni

Ren calls his style Bardcore... he is a street busker and his music often takes on a minstrel style of story telling. He did this in one take. Apparently he had to do it a few times to get that take... but it was all in one. (and with a budget of about $1000). He has some video's that are more musical (singing) and some that are more rap. He suffered years of debilitating illness because of a misdiagnosis and incorrect medication. I think it gave him a perspective that makes his music more... just more .. he really is a genius.

I am a 62 year old English man. I have been a singer songwriter since I was a young, rebellious teenager. Ren is THE most creative musician / singer songwriter i have ever heard. I was also introduced to his music via this Hi Ren track and I was blown away. There is so much going on with his craftsmanship. You MUST watch The Tale Of Jenny And Screech ( FULL VERSION ) It is, by far, THE most brilliant trilogy I have ever heard. I don't like to brandish the word Genius around too lightly BUT I am more than comfortable to use this adjective where Ren is concerned. 🙏

Discography-- Great reaction. "Hi Ren" is the song that put Ren on everyone's radar since December; it went viral and has garnered more than 6.6 million views since its debut, but he has been creating great music for more than ten years. Ren’s music videos are generally recorded live in a single take (although not necessarily the first take). His latest release, "Sick Boi," is almost another chapter to "Hi Ren." Many of his songs resonate with people because he addresses struggles that many others face every day. Ren plays multiple instruments (acoustic, electric, and bass guitar, piano, drums), has impressive vocals, is an excellent storyteller, and is quite the philosopher and poet. His trilogy "The Tale of Jenny/Screech/Violet" is haunting and has an unforeseen conclusion. It needs to be watched in the order given, as this is the flow of the storyline. It is another example of Ren’s genius and a master’s class in storytelling. It has been likened to a Shakespearean tragedy. Ren’s collaborations with Chinchilla (“Chalk Outlines,” “How to Be Me”) are beautiful and showcase his singing voice while addressing mental health. Ren’s Hip Hop/Rap style songs are also worth checking out; they are simply amazing. Check out “The Hunger,” “Genesis,” “What You Want,” “Losing it (FISHER rap retake),” “Right here, right now (Fatboy Slim one shot retake),” and his latest release, “Bittersweet symphony (The Verve retake).” His performances with Sam Tompkins (“Blind Eyed,” “Earned it /Mans World / Falling,” “Walking on the Moon), Eden Nash (“Humble,” “Ocean”), Bibi (“Crutch,” “Ahiahiaoha”), Molly McKinna (“Penitence”), his former bandmate, Romain Axisa (“French Song”) are all great. Ren's performances as a member of the band "The Big Push" (which unfortunately broke up), their busking (street performances), concerts, and their live recordings, are awesome and well worth checking out. Ren's covers of "I Shot the Sheriff," "Wade in the Water," "An Englishman in New York," the songs "Oh My Woman," “Swan Song,” and so many others are equally impressive and really give you a sample of his vocal ability. Ren recently released his single, “Sick Boi.” In anticipation of his stay in Canada for more treatments, Ren prepared some music ahead of time to be released over the next six months that he expects to be gone. "Sick Boi" is almost another chapter to "Hi Ren." As mentioned above, his latest release, “Bittersweet Symphony (The Verve retake),” is another masterful work

@Jordan & Amanda React a bit about Ren he was misdiagnosed with mental disorders, autoimmune disease, and psychosis dual personality disorder, for over 10 years, he was finally correctly diagnosed with Lymes disease he was bitten by a tick and it has ravaged his body and mind, he is currently in Canada getting treatment for at least the next 6 months. its all on his page in the description and on his community page. he has also set up a gofund me for people that wanted to donate for his medical bills and until then he is working on music and will be putting out something 1 time a month or something like that correct me if I am wrong, but that is a bit about his back story. he has a lot of stuff you might like Sick Boi which is the follow up to this song hi ren, The Tale of Jenny and Screech (Full version ) including Violets Tale, Ren X Chinchila Chalk Outlines, Power, Losing It (Fischer Retake), Hunger, and busking on the streets I shot the sherrif and many many others.

It is a three part performance that must be played all at once in a single reaction and in order. First Jenny, then Screech, finally Violet. It is often called the FULL performance. Some reactors have played them as separate reactions or out of order and they have been crucified. Just saying so that it goes well for you. Enjoyed your reaction. Just subbed.

Here's some info for you. The sound was recorded live, it took only 4 takes to get it. There were cuts in the video but only for the up close shots. The sound was all one take. He struggled with Lyme disease and it went undiagnosed for a long time to the point where it gave him bouts of psychosis. There was so much going on, the guitar style was softer from the "good side" and the dark sided was more hit harder. Even the lights flickered when it was the dark side of him, and the shadow cast on the floor had a double shadow one darker than the other. Check out his song called The Tale of Jenny & Screech (full) as it shows just how versatile he is but it is all about the delivery for him. He had a record deal with Sony, but when he got sick they dropped them and he has done it all without the backing of anyone! He is currently in Canada getting treatment for the lyme disease.

my connection to this song is only the similarity of struggle,, i'm undiagnosed autistic and have struggled with being a bit weird my whole life i had to start my own business because i had problems holding a job with sleep disorders and high ethics.. but managed to stay in business the last 40 years without needing to advertise or even carry a card, i run a lawn and tree service and do all phases of construction and kind of an inventor on the side after six years of development i figured out a disaster response product that could help millions worldwide .. then my insurance agent forgot to post a payment back in 2020 and the state took everything i worked the last 40 years for away .. stuck at home like a prisoner i came online and saw people helping others so i started making videos explaining hat i was. trying to do to get help and found out if the platform your uploading to doesn't promote you your just talking to your phone, and then i see stuff like this and get jealous because i will never write a song that gets peoples attn like this. so my chances are fading. and it's scary as hell to think of all that could be, but it may all be lost because one person forgot to hit enter on there keyboard..

Reaction to reaction video ..... oblivious! How can someone review music they cannot hear. This went so far over there heads that most of the performance was obscured by the dark clouds Ren lived beneath. Don't get me wrong this is in some way refreshing to witness, there are people are still out there untouched by the bitter lessons that harsh world can deliver, or wear the scars that life's struggles leaves that so many others deal with. Whether it's their beliefs or just polished social graces that have shielded them for the brutal reality ....... I don't know. It was interesting to watch them randomly bobbing to what they thought was confusing rhythm and strange melody with Ren's raw words whizzing past unnoticed. It reinforces to me that art, music, life is interpreted by differently by different people ...... judgement is not really fair, so what if they didn't get it.
