Thank you for your reaction! This is my info text about Forestella I always post under the first-time-ever reaction. When you read it, that means I subscribed. Forestella is a crossover group from Korea. They were grouped and won the Phantom Singer 2; an audition show to form a crossover quartet like il Divo from Korea. However, as they have their own unique style, they won't be Korean il Divo, they will be the Forestella of the world! Hence Forestella has sung great covers in various TV shows, better filter on the video to avoid copyright block. Forestella dared to cover the songs like Bohemian Rhapsody, We are the Champions, Hijo de la Luna, Heal the World, the Sound of Silence, My Favorite Things, Champions (mash-up of Champs league theme and Champions by Jo SuMi), Nella Fantasia, Scarborough Fair..etc etc. At the Phantom Singer All Stars they sang Time in a bottle, Je suis Malade as well. Shape of You in English, Spanish and African Zulu is fantastic indeed. You can even see them dancing singing Smooth Criminal as well! If you are a LOL fan, check their Warriors and Legends Never Die! And they broke the record of their own with EXO's MAMA winning 6 trophies for King of Kings in a row in Immortal Songs. Check their magnificent performances of Bad Romance and Lazenca Save us, Unwritten Legend and Despacito too. Forestella is a quartet of Ko WooRim (a classical bass, intense abyss-deep low tone), Kang HyungHo (an ex-research chemist, rock vocalist with soprano head voice falsetto), Cho MinGyu (a classical leggiero tenor, light boyish crystal clear tone) and Bae DooHoon (a musical actor, 159th King of the Masked Singers, emotion convincer good at R&B, Pop). Each has distinct tone and style of singing, different charm. But all of them are famous as practice-freaks. They meet almost everyday to practice together. In a radio program the leader (Cho MinGyu) revealed it would be around 20 days they didn't meet in the year. Bae DooHoon also said they don't meet 1~2 days in a month. I think this explains how their perfection can be possible. Don't miss their m/v for Save our lives! It's full of wonders. Each of them is representing an element in the m/v. They sang Fake Love of BTS and their song Save our lives at MAMA. Their majestic original song Utopia is a must check. Now I see they are creating a genre called Forestella. They showed "What crossover is" with Save our lives and showing "What Forestella does" with Utopia! Enjoy their diversity with their original song White Night too. Forestella released their single KOOL in Kpop style to fulfill their promise of Kpop cover dance for exceeding 990K views of Save our lives m/v. They struggled to choose a Kpop to dance, became to think making their own Kpop song with dance! As crossover works for all genres, Forestella did a great job for their fans. Take a listening to Chosen One, an EPIC OST of the Sword of Aramun. Forestella released fantastic original Snow Globe m/v! Kang HyungHo composed it, and all the Forestella members contributed in arranging it. Another original Chagall's Dream brings back the moment of Forestella Festival in my heart, I feel like in my lucid dream seeing Forestella altogether in the future in advance. As the latest, Forestella sang Stuck in a Maze as a quartet. Don't miss it! Now 3 of them are active as trio because their bass Ko WooRim had to enlist for his national duty till 2025 May.

You should check their LIVE "Bohemian Rhapsody". You will know the original, to base their performance against. As a fan of Queen from BEFORE they were famous... Forestella's version is how Freddie intended it to be sung.. LIVE. Queen couldn't do the middle section live. But, Forestella did. Have to say I prefer their Live performances to their MVs. Thanks for your honest reaction to Forestella. This was their 1st m/v since they moved to Beat Interactive. I was surprised and satisfied at the luxurious scenary this m/v showed. If they stayed at Arts&Artists (their ex-agency) we never could have such a quality m/v. This is the 1st part of their trilogy. In this Save our lives you can find act 1~3. The 2nd part is Utopia. You can see act 4~6 there. I think White Night is out of trilogy because in the album description of KOOL which was released later than White Night, it was said "또한 'KOOL'은 세계수(World Tree) 3부작 시리즈 도중 발매하는 스핀 오프 싱글로, 세계관의 경계(Borderline)에 있어 이전 앨범의 여러 요소를 숨겨두었다. 이로 하여금 숨겨진 요소와 그 의미를 찾는 재미도 느껴볼 수 있을 것이다." "KOOL came out in the middle of trilogy as a spin-off single." This is what I read, so I'm guessing the trilogy isn't finished yet. In this m/v each of them is representing an element. Kang HyungHo (who first started the song) is the Fire, Bae DooHoon (who second sang after HyungHo) is the Water, Cho MinGyu (blue hair) is the Air and Ko WooRim (low voice) is the Earth. Seems the life came from the world tree, all 4 are growing the tree with their singing. In the end of the m/v, you saw the World Tree was growing up. That concept of world tree of life is from Nordic myth's Yggdrasill so their concept and story is also a crossover of the biblical metaphors and nordic mythical symbols.. and they took the 4 elements idea of Aristotle in the Save our lives like each of Forestella is representing element like the Fire, the Water, the Air and the Earth. Interestingly, their vocal ranges fit the elements for each too. The costume concept seems 4 elements at first, and then the Sunlight (the outfits with golden decoration), dark night (just me calling it, black outfits), and the Moonlight (white outfits). I believe they presented concepts connected with their covers for Inner Universe, Lazenca Save us with this Save our lives (I'll say SOL). And between SOL and UTOPIA, they said Bad Romance was a concept bridge. I think Fake Love and MAMA too. For exceeding 990K views of this m/v, they made KOOL. What a group presents an original dance song to fulfill the promise of dance cover! I can't help but loving them. I am so happy for them they have such an epic original song of their own. I think they deserve world recognition for their massive talents and dedication for music. Their live singing is a way better than any recording so I hope they can go global tour someday near your place.

The crossover group Forestella is multifaceted, and this MV is just one part of their explorations. Check out their covers of "Time in a Bottle," "Bad Romance," and "Nella Fantasia" to discover the unique edge or another level of elegance.(Just as the main task of classical music lies in the new interpretation of existing works, the recreation of existing music is also a crucial component of the activities of crossover groups.) If you prefer rock, listen to "Wave on the Sea" (MV: kzread.info/dash/bejne/dqOXudFqhZnIedY.html, live fan cam: kzread.info/dash/bejne/lJV_x8GehqmTpKQ.html), written, composed and sung by one of Forestella's members (He is a rocker who can also sing in the male soprano range). If you live opera rock: Lazenca save us. Beware live performances on shows are very heavy copyrhited but a little transparency can avoid you to be blocked or just inversion of the screen. If you want emotional and soul go to Angel, je suis malade, parla piu piano etc and the so beautiful ost of the k drama Nokdu Flower , the song name is « bird bird , blue bird » it’s in Korean but very beautiful. I understand what you say about soul and grace . Crossover artists do not specialize in a particular genre such as pop or rock etc., but often combine different genres. Forestella likes to add an operatic touch to a pop/rock or folk song, etc. "Save our lives" is part 1 of a trilogy. While the first part focuses on creation and the beauty of nature with which we should coexist, part 2 ("Utopia") tells the story of how man's utopia becomes nature's dystopia. Obviously this wasn't the right song for you. I usually recommend their live cover of "Scarborough Fair" as first song, but their performances on Korean TV channels/shows often get blocked. Since I don't know how much effort you put into a video to get it up on YT (making it semi-transparent, putting text over the video, etc.), I chose one of their original songs, which usually don't cause any major problems. If you want emotional live performances with soul, then songs like the following will be probably more up your alley: "Maldita sea mi suerte": kzread.info/dash/bejne/emqbxbWqfMLNmbA.html "If I leave": kzread.info/dash/bejne/pKmA2ryrXb20YbQ.html "Je suis malade": kzread.info/dash/bejne/lpaMxbuohpXdgKQ.html None of them have English CCs, so you will have to search for an English translation of the text. I can provide you a video of "If I leave" and "Je suis malade" with English lyrics, but I can't post the links here, because they are on another platform and YT would block my comment.

Only a fan can recommend this MV to discover Forestella. Instead, try them in their culture and language, for example with "If I leave". I'm sure you'll find more art there than in the artifact of an MV. And if you want to discover some fabulous Korean queens of emotion, try Ali in her "Does Anyone Know This Person" or Song So Hee in her "Tuman river". There is substance there ! About the tree of knowledge of good and evil, perhaps a little Kabbalistic clarification will interest you. The Hebrew words are Tov (good) and Raa (evil), but their most original meaning, according to Kabbalah, would be conservation (tov) and destruction (raa). Humans are what they are, and we understand their tendency to translate conservation into good, and destruction into evil. This is the usual distortion which reduces an awakening spirituality to moral religiosity. BTW, in Buddhism, the dual concepts of continuum and impermanence are absolutely identical to the Hebrew Tov and Raa. So, mental cognition works on the basis of this dynamic dualism and not on relative moral values like good and evil.

😂Actually, Izzy, you responded just as Forestella intended…which was despite your assertion that it was soulless, you did just as was required.. ….to examine, question and discuss …and don’t be fooled by their appearances…it’s part of the whole narrative running through these parts of a trilogy …this is part 1 with chapters 1 to 3….Utopia follows with chapters 4 to 6. …the 3rd is yet to be released. This is way deeper than most realise in their first watch….the visuals are there for a reason and the whole idea of the way the music is presented is intentional….the lyrics are not only meant for casual listening either . And dont be fooled by the assumption that they don’t understand biblical references…you could not be more wrong. A reasonable person would not make such a statement before knowing more about these four quite well-rounded and intelligent artists with differing beliefs. There are subtle and some not so subtle clues scattered throughout this piece, ….have you figured out the symbolism of the difference in size of the statues at the beginning vs the end of the video? What do the statues even represent? And no it’s not for decor purposes😂. The reaction of some here is exactly what the subject matter is about… both detractors and supporters…I want to emphasize that the song is infinitely more than just biblical references…hint, hint. Also I loved your use of the word sanitised…another hint!😂 You are skirting on the edges of what is really going on here…if they were watching this they would be cheering you on open your eyes and your ears to discover their intent. Utopia also will challenge you even more and the group has suggested that viewers need to watch that video at minimum 3 to 4 times. Forestella is a crossover group that refuses to be confined to a particular genre…they have successfully performed in many genres, sometimes fusions thereof and also in other languages. Obviously their native language is Korean as they are a South Korean. Two of the members are fully trained opera singers, one is a former research chemist for a petrochemical co.and a self-trained musician, tenor soprano and rock-singer and the 4th is a currently active musical theatre performer who majored in acting. The last 2 do not have bachelor and masters degrees in Music,Voice-classical. All have solo careers alongside their main Forestella group activities.

I agree about the lack of soul. I feel the same way about Dimash - an amazing technically perfect singer but I don't get emotion from him. These guys are amazing singers too. OOhhh, Latin! Fun fact - when I attended high school, Latin classes were mandatory from grade 9 to grade 13. That was a minute ago 🙃

I recorded a reaction to Dimash, but never posted it because I didn't really have a lot to say. Latin is fascinating. I think it may have been taught in schools here too, but before my time.

I agree with your opinion about Dimash. However, Forestella is different. This original song is just a very small part of their multifaceted work. I wonder if you would have the same opinion after listening to their covers of "Time in a Bottle"(kzread.info/dash/bejne/pH5qxLisYcKWZZs.html) or "Nella Fantasia" (kzread.info/dash/bejne/g5qgzMiFk8qcmqQ.html). I believe these two songs best represent Forestella's soul in different ways. (Reinterpreting existing music is one of the main components of work in the crossover genre.)

@@philologia100 Hi, thanks for the suggestions. I did watch the two videos at the links you provided. Still not my cup of tea, I'm sorry but I do agree they are extremely good singers and I really like the stage settings.

@@SharonR.. Thanks for your review! Now I have a better understanding of the soul you're talking about. Maybe it's a dark and deep pathos, an 'expression' of personal feelings that are directly related to life. Forestella's works are definitely not the kind of music that expresses such subjective emotions as in lyric poetry. They are rather closer to the genres of epic poetry, which is more objective ("World Tree Trilogy": Save Our Lives, Utopia, White Night or "Legends Never Die": kzread.info/dash/bejne/mG1px9qoc5e-qNY.html), or drama, where subjectivity and objectivity intersect ("Je suis malade": kzread.info/dash/bejne/aIB8w9p_qrbgZNo.html, "Bohemian Rhapsody": kzread.info/dash/bejne/kZ5orat9dtfWk6Q.html). Their music thus incorporates elements of opera, musical theatre, rock, and pop, focusing more on 'representation' rather than 'expression'. "Nella Fantasia," which has no rock elements, represents divinity and spirituality, while "Time in a Bottle", with variations of the same phrases in different genres, represents the variety but the same essence of life. Such aspects are a kind of intellectual work. I think these differences distinguish Forestella from merely technically proficient musicians. I would also like to recommend you check out "Bad Romance" (kzread.info/dash/bejne/nH-bmaydpLO2kaQ.html), which has stronger rock and theatrical elements, "Phantom of the Opera" (kzread.info/dash/bejne/hImjx5OeYdHZnrQ.html), which is a rock opera and a cover of Nightwish's version, and "Wave on the Sea" (MV: kzread.info/dash/bejne/lK51tKmcm9OalJs.html, live fancam: kzread.info/dash/bejne/lJV_x8GehqmTpKQ.html), which is a hard rock song with Korean traditional music elements. The last one is written, composed and sung by a member who sings both the rock parts and male soprano parts. Although these songs may not be exaktly to your taste, I'm sure you'll find a different kind of enjoyment in their stage performances. Thank you again for your review and comments.

I actually stuck through this whole reaction because I really like your analysis. The mix really sucks as you say. Can't hear the words at all. Never heard of these guys before, not my cup of tea. A lot of the comments say to react to their queen covers. Might be worth a try m 🤷

Agree with no soul. Music that tries to be technically perfect can be incredibly moving. It has to be perfect on every level. Mix being primary to drive emotion. I appreciate your honesty and the ability to listen to Korean crossover music (still not sure what that means) and make a Shania Twain reference.

classical crossover is a niche genre of singers with classical training (opera, musical actors, etc.) who cross over and sing different genres and bring with them classical seasoning. when forestella do covers of popular songs there is usually a dash of operatic seasoning added. for example, il divo, andrea bocelli, josh groban, sarah brightman, lara fabian.
