So happy you took the time with this one, as you say, there is so much to unpack. And it is a relentless song, and it should be. I think this is one of Ren's best compositions (next to the song Blind Eyed). Very unpredictable, many flow switches, but also coherent. Thanks for discussing these subjects, I like listening to you.

Ren often jokes that he seems to make an album by accident: he gets stuck into certain sounds, words and themes, and them realizes, "Oh, I think there's an album there." 13 is a prime number, divisible only by 1 and it's self. Also, a Fibonacci number preceded by 5 and 8. Cool, eh?

there were 13 diners at the Last Supper. The 13th to arrive was Judas, who betrayed Jesus.

Some common theories about 13 being unlucky: Judas is thought to be the 13th guest to sit down at the last supper. Friday the 13th is the day that the Knights Templar were mass arrested/slain very early in the morning starting their downfall In Norse Mythology, Loki was the 13th to arrive at Valhalla where he tricked another to kill the gold Baldur In Cantonese the number 4 sounds similar to "death" and 13 is viewed as 1 ten plus 3 ones (1+3=4) In some translations of ancient Babylonian Code of Hammurabi, a 13th law of recovering damages from a seller's estate was omitted Some ancient cultures considered 13 to represent femininity because of menstrual cycles being similar to lunar cycles Some early monks (who maintained calendars) had problems consolidating the approximate 13 full moons into the 12 month calendar The end of the Mayan calendar's 13th Baktun was feared as a harbinger of apocalypse (Recall the 2012 craze about it's coming)

He could have pulled enough songs from Sick Boi to make it a thematic or concept album based on his struggles, but he has a tremendous backlog of music and intended it's theme to be hip hop (although I think he also stretches that a wee bit). And your reactions are never too long!

Interesting....Ren follows Wim Hoff. He can hold his breath for 3 and a half minutes and takes ice baths for the inflamation in his body. Ren releasedSick Boi on Friday the 13th of Oct and it was just 13 yrs since he started with his symptoms. I think the the unlucky Friay tbe 13 came from the Knights Templar persecution, which was initiated on Friday the 13th. Teplar enclaves were raided and members arrested, tortured and killed for heresy. 13 my lucky number along with 27. 33 was when i srated learning my artstry/craft of working with a torch to create jewelry and sculpture. After being studeny abd the psychiatric social worker for all my years up to 30. Ren was obviously 33 when he wrote this song.

The instrumental at the start of Seven Sins was used in the build up to 1 or 2 of his premeires, possibly Illest Of Our Time or Animal Flow. When I heard it, I didn't realise Ren had produced it, but I really wanted to hear more, so it was a great start to the album to finally hear the full song.

I love these discussions and the comment section is full of thoughtful comments. It's like a whole group of interesting people came together to have a conversation. I think it's partly due to the tone that Izzy sets during his measured analysis. I find this to be one of the most impressive songs on the album. It's sonically intense and a summation of the full concept. It reminds me of albums from the 70s where songs were wide ranging and not focused on raidio airplay. Instead the artists trusted the audience to journey with them as they explored the theme.

I had a feeling that your Captain Digression persona would be front and centre for this track. 🙃 I feel compelled to warn you though, that there really isn't a sonic theme or thread to this album. One track in particular that I'm thinking of came completely out of left field (at least for me) in terms of lyrics and sound- which is saying something considering this is Ren. There is also a track that has a complex and varied soundscape (did I just make up a word?) that is entirely done with his voice. The whole album is super interesting - I look forward to more of your journey exploring it.

The indivisible number 13 is often considered a magical number and has been associated with both good fortune and bad luck in different times and places. The reason why the number has become mainly an unlucky number in the Western world is often connected to the biblical story that there were thirteen people around the table at Jesus' last meal with the disciples (where Judas Iscariot is counted as the thirteenth). Another that most of the Knights Templar (Knights of the Cross) were executed by order of the Vatican on Friday, October 13, 1307. The story of the god of betrayal and evil, Loki, in Norse mythology who arrived as the thirteenth guest at a banquet in Valhalla - and then conspired so that Balder died - is another story.

My favorite from the album!! #RENegade and I think you are correct he doesn't think about what will be liked he just makes art! The Last Supper In Christianity, Judas Iscariot, the apostle who betrayed Jesus, was the 13th guest to sit at the Last Supper. The superstition of 13 being unlucky at a table may have originated from this event, with the idea that if 13 people sit at a table, one of them will die within the year. Norse mythology In Norse mythology, Loki, the god of mischief, was the 13th guest to arrive at a banquet in Valhalla, upsetting the balance of the other 12 gods and causing the world to fall into darkness. Other events Other events that may have contributed to the superstition include the arrest and execution of hundreds of Knights Templar on October 13, 1307, and the Victorian association of Friday and the number 13 with misfortune in the 19th century. More recent events that have occurred on Friday the 13th, such as the German bombing of Buckingham Palace in 1940 and the crash of the Costa Concordia cruise ship in 2012, have also contributed to the fear of the day.

I just started the review. I know the beginning is well chalet that you said it’s sounds like monks. I haven’t really thought of that but you’re right. It says something about Pain being his teacher or something along those lines and here lies the body of Ren. Sorry I haven’t been polishing up on my while these days in New York City. There’s not too many people from Wales. It’s funny that an interview he said when he was looking for a doctor and he didn’t have any money for all the different treatments he was trying on his own, but he would get a check. I can’t remember how often if it was monthly all semi annually or something, but it comes from the UK he said like pity money for being from Wales. Oh, One more thing I wanted to add he has said that the more popular he’s become the more conscien is of his art and lyrics and reference to you talking about freedom and if he thinks about starting the solo in Welsh, I think it was a little bit more in reference to the song suicide and, he knows he’s reaching massive audience now where is before? If the song was a flop and he did whatever he wanted he didn’t give a shit. He wanted to express himself to express himself, but cognizant of what he’s putting out there for consumption and part of his reason was that he’s become so popular and he wasn’t saying it in the boastful way, but he feels so much responsibility to me careful the way someone may Texon. I guess we controversy reasons or maybe mis interpretation. What is the way you said about the number 13 so the United States buildings don’t have a 13th floor as far as i know. Perhaps southern created in there with the floor to be different that I’m not aware of but yeah interesting and I don’t know where originated but I’ll be interested to read some comments to see or suppose I could just ask professor Google. I’m not sure if you’ve seen his tribute to Nas who is one of my favorite artist of all time I guess being from New York it was kind of embedded than me. His CD came out to the yard. I got my license actually , Illmatic considered by most rap aficionado to be one of the top five rap albums ever made. But anyway, Ren is a big fan and wanted to give him some flowers while he was still alive so he does the song that’s like a remix. Well it’s retake I suppose because they’re not the same lyrics but it’s very similar. Beat to his song halftime, and the tribute to New York State of mind. Probably haven’t done that song but anyway he has a line in the song if I can get it right off the top of my head he says I’m pimping. My pain in the sales will rise like a pirate with a patch on his eye saying aye aye aye. Where is basically saying that all the pain that he’s been through has helped his creative fitness which people are obviously very into and I think he’s feeling like a pirate sometimes for peoples money for his pain but he’s come to accept if I’m gonna do it anyway I might as well make a sheet of money on it, I guess he said he doesn’t wanna give away all of himself because he has to keep some of that and I don’t know if it’s worth his creative genius or just to have some privacy! There’s absolutely no doubt that you learned a lot more about yourself during hard times than good times unfortunately for me I’ve had plenty of hard times and I have a couple of friends that fortunately for them their life is like a cakewalk and when I hear them bitching about the most Superficial stupidest things you can imagine it kind of break my nerves and sometimes they are like what problem I don’t know what you get pissed off about and of course I try not to really get pissed off but I just like not really you know they’re french fries get extra vegetables damn when something actually really bad happens in your life. I don’t know if you’re gonna be able to handle it and I know that I’m gonna be the one that needs to be, your crush I don’t mind because that’s what friends are for but you know you can’t cry over everything please toughen up a tad! You know there’s some interesting podcasts and books on dopamine which you know is basically responsible for addiction over eating drugs during everything to access and you know throughout Aleutian we weren’t designed for shit like TikTok and bullshit social media you know every 10 seconds of 20 seconds out at some point of course different things amount so depending on your drug of choice you’re talking about major dopamine dumps and naturally even it out you have to go to a major deficit which nobody wants to do because it sucks so what do you do? Exactly right one more hit thank you very muchone more line thank you very much. One more shot. Thank you very much. Yeah, we are the most complex creatures. Speaking of Peaky Blinders doesn’t he look like the different Peaky Blinders especially when game three I can’t remember the guys name the main dude yeah could be his stunt double. However, who knows Ren been doing so well these days maybe he could be Rena stunt double! I agree with you about breaking those curses and addiction and all that shit running from generation from generation. My mom is one of 12 and all 12 of them have had cancer everyone my cousins has been an alcoholic drug addict on her side of the family noticed that breaking the chain usually well almost always is up to the child just like abuse breaking the cycle abuse is usually always on the abused not the abuser! It’s actually very cruel. Anyway, yeah I really like this breakdown man powerful song, man I really like you saying your life. I think that’s really cool because your life is a lot more relatable than life well to me anyway, I think most people, though a lot of people struggle with drinking drugs or things that nature as opposed to autoimmune disease that Get diagnosed for years I mean, I know a couple people like that too actually so yeah a couple but amount of people I know that I’ve had drinking a drug problems. I couldn’t tell you how many let’s just say 50 to keep it modest. That’s the ones I know of. I’m sorry this post is so long but the more you talk I keep wanting to add something so I don’t know if you’re a fan of George Carlin or not or if you even know who he is I assume you know who he is. He was way ahead of time and men, what a brilliant man what an amazing comedian I believe he was voted the second best comedian of all time I really still magazine if I’m not mistaken or most influential I believe Richard PO number one murphy number three yeah anyway he has a skit on the 10 Commandments, which is Definitely worth watching if you’ve never seen it he has another skit on time which is hysterical because you know it’s man-made and we put so much relevance are just a made-up thing. I think Red mention that in the game not that specifically but where he says the money we designed is more important than the truth, and then he says all designed by man law and order to fuel the attention borders are an invention, etc., and finally George Carlin skin on mother nature, talking about the arrogance of human about saving the planet with the planets been here for billions of years and we’ve been here for Several thousand. He said how arrogant are you? Do you think you’re going to destroy the planet? I have news for you almost 100 species die every day. The plans not going anywhere you are.!!

This song has so many talking points. Of course brought forth from Ren’s horrendous struggles but morphs into the struggles of humankind. I relate to much of what you say (of course for me these days it’s my girls saying “Ren, Ren, Ren” cause that’s what I talk about all the time 😂) But that part about addiction. When wanting to overeat to take a moment and pause. What is going on inside. Why am I feeling like overdoing it? I’ve had issues with all different addictions and food is one of my last vices and it is such a struggle. Thanks for bringing that up with compassion and bringing up that I need to go deeper in order to move beyond and get healthier. You are such a beautiful soul. ❤

Numerology is the language by which we can observe order within our universe. 33 is the master teacher, the constant and common, devoted to its purpose in mathematics and geometry. It reveals the divine order within nature. Divine by design, from the micro to the macro some say this order reveals proof of god, source. creator.

22:25 the similarity in sound of ADAM and ATOM is coincidental. There is also no etymological connection. One is Hebrew for "(hu)man" the other one's Greek for "indivisible" 'cos the ancient Greeks thought there can't be anything smaller than that -- then someone discovered molecules... and it still didn't end there.

Hey Izzy, loved your take on this one. For those who don't have much, greed can be from fear. For those who have everything, greed most likely comes from wanting power or control (or more of it). Also, I think Ren was kicking himself a little, because Let It Be was written by Paul, not John... therefore not a quote, lol. Can't wait to check out your podcast, just haven't had the chance yet.

13 in Christian myth used to be a lucky number, it is Jesus + 12 disciples. Eventually people (wrongly, I think) associated evil with one of the disciples, and deduced that 13 should be an unlucky number. Much older is the counting-system where you'd count to twelve, as apparently Babylonians and their predecessors might have had 12 fingers or so. 12 hours, 12 months, 12 star signs and so on. 13 jumps out of the circle of easy small numbers... being big, might be good, or bad, depending how you look at it (income, or enemy numbers...).

Really, all the sins can be placed under the umbrella of greed.

Seven Sins is one of my favourite Ren songs. A brilliant and *forensic* dissection of pain *for Ren’s sick*. But he is also breaking down the sins and how they can turn our species into a “sickness” of the world - especially greed. The song is also just the perfect opening track for the Sick Boi album. When you get deep enough into the rabbit hole to have listened to the full album, you will notice how it’s like a Reniverse tapestry of interconnected lyrics and references with this song hinting at what’s to come. I gotta say though… as Ren keeps growing and more people get to know him, the line “prophets get dropped imagining heaven” is sounding more and more foreboding. He is out there saving lives by giving us hope, inspiring positive change in the world, and asking us to look past our differences to come together as that is the only way he imagines us surviving as a species. There better not be any crazy people out there who would ever want to shoot him for attention! 🫣 We need Ren in the world ❤🐰🕳️

7 was the best lucky number / God in revelations. The devil was stuck on repetitive 6s - couldn’t reach 7. Could well be wrong.

Are you a Brummie Izzy? Defo not quarry bonk. Sound very T Shelby, when quoting Blake - although he’s Irish. 👍
