Remembering Eli Wallach, His Life & Death
Ойын-сауық
Before his death in 2014 at the age of 98, Eli Wallach was one of the most respected character actors in entertainment. After rising to prominence on Broadway, the actor had made his on-screen debut in the 1956 film Baby Doll. From there, Eli appeared in over 90 films before his death. However, the actor simply viewed appearing in movies as a way to pay the bills, and always greatly preferred acting on the stage.

Even though Eli had a preference for stage acting over acting on film, he never had a bad attitude when the cameras stopped rolling. Everyone that worked with Eli considered him to be one of the kindest actors of his day. Given that kindness has always been an uncommon trait amongst actors, Eli stood out to his coworkers. Among those that have praised Eli over the years are Arthur Miller and Clint Eastwood. Eli met Arthur Miller while acting in a film that the latter had scripted, and met Clint while appearing alongside him in 1966’s The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.
Eli’s turn as Tuco, aka “the Ugly”, in Sergio Leone’s The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly has arguably gone down in history as the actor’s most memorable role. However, the actor continued working both on the stage and on the screen for many decades afterward. Eli’s final acting gig was in the short film The Train, which was released in 2015.
Eli married actress Anne Jackson in 1948, and the two remained married until Eli’s 2014 death. The two had been married for 66 years. Anne passed away two years after her husband, and their three children survived the couple. Join Facts Verse as we examine Eli Wallach’s life and death.

He should have got an Oscar for playing "Tuco" it's a long film and he had the biggest part, he was brilliant, especially the gunshop scene. Cheers

Eli was a great actor, no doubt! Don't really have a favorite movie, as his acting style was so versitle, he was able to be in so many different kinds of movies. Living to the age of 98 is rare these days...he obviously had a very healthy lifestyle to live that many years. RIP ELI 🙏

A once in a lifetime actor. A great stage actor, a great movie star and a great person. He was a faithful person and a great husband, father. He was just a great all around person. Playing Tugo in the Good, Bad and the Ugly was the first time watching him in a movie and that the rest was history, that role was meant for him. He stay well grounded in his life and faithful to his family till his death. A sad, grateful tribute video to him. Thanks Mr. Wallach and his beautiful wife Anne Jackson RIH. Condolences to his family and friends!

Loved Eli as "The Ugly" of course but he was even more awesome in "The Holiday"; he was so terrific in that well-cast role! We watch GBAE once a year or so and The Holiday since it came out every Christmas (Kate, Jude, and Jack were awesome in that too)! Nice piece; keep 'em up like this. I suggest one on Charlie Watts too!
I'm here because I am watching The Holiday now and was curious about him. Will add GBU to my list to watch!

Tuco all the way! I was 13 when that came out. Mind boggling for us kids to see that movie.
Ran into him at the Equestrian Center in Burbank. Now understand why he was there...
I really enjoyed seeing Eli Wallach in the Magnificent 7, which I'm not sure was mentioned? However, my favorite is The Good, Bad and Ugly. Cheers
im in shock to find out that this gentle old lovely man in the movie the holiday is the same man in the good the bad and the ugly
Had a teacher in junior high named Wallach. None of us kids knew who Eli was at the time, but a few of the other teachers would call him Eli. lol
I didn't know about all his movies and acting. Bit the ones I do know he was a pro..

I love this performance in the holiday
I think his best role was in The Misfits. Powerful. What a great life he had.
He was great as the bandit leader in Magnificent Seven
Wasn't he also the bandit leader in the Magnificent Seven? Anyway a great all round actor. Always gave a good performance. But I have to say his Tuco in GBU really stole the show. He was so over the top he must have had a great time. And Lee Van Cleef was no slouch either. Those two reduced Clint almost to a Straight Man.

I remember Eli in the movie How The West Was Won 1962. He play a outlaw and George Peppard did play a retire sheriff whom know that Eli was up to no good. Eli and George did fight on a train just before the train did unrailed.
his desperate run in the g.b.u. It is just perfect like Alec Gunness's walk out of the cooler in the bridge on river a fan
Will always remember him as Tuco, the ugly. Thank you Mr Wallach RIP

The long happy marriage of Eli Wallach & Anne Jackson should be a template for actor/actress couples, what with those who had failed unions - Ben Affleck/Jennifer Garner, Brad Pitt/Angelina Jolie, Clark Gregg/Jennifer Grey, Scarlett Johansson/Ryan Reynolds, Richard Burton/Elizabeth Taylor, Melanie Griffith/Don Johnson & Antonio Banderas, amongst others.

I probably watched The Good, The Bad and The Ugly 376 times in my life. Last month I introduced it to my son. And watching it again after so many years, I now see that Eli was the main character. Not Clint in spite of him having top billing. In this, Tuco is really the Good, Clint was the Bad, and Lee was the Ugly. Tuco was driving the story. Clint is only along for the ride as an evil double crosser. He knew that Arch Stanton's grave didn't contain the loot, he unloaded Tuco's gun. He was planning to murder him and dig up the loot himself, that is until Angel Eyes threw a monkey wrench in his plans. No more talk!

I liked Eli in The Holiday
Peter Fonda wasn't in "Once Upon a Time in the West". His father, Henry Fonda, was in it. The voiceover people need to learn to research the narratives.
I like his role with Johnny cash don't remember the name of movie
The Victor's was great but depressing.
Was great in the hunter with Steve McQueen.

Arthur Miller was MARRIED to Marilyn Monroe! Why no mention of Elis' great performance in 'The Magnificent Seven'? Not very accurate mi amigo.
Funniest moment is in How to save a marriage and ruin your life w/Dean Martin & stella Stevens!!! You'll know it when you see it🤣🤣🤣🤣
What is the highway to heaven on TV and playing with his wife and his son was in a coma and he went to go visit Him and he finally at the end of the show went down there and visit him he didn’t say I’m better than you do so I’m leaving to go visit him.
