Guest: Eli Wallach, actor and author of the autobiography, “The Good, the Bad and Me In My Anecdotage.”
(Taped 4-21-05)
In May 1956, Richard D. Heffner, American historian, broadcaster, and University Professor of Communications and Public Policy at Rutgers, began a weekly public television series called The Open Mind. Talking about Tuco... Eli Wallach gave such an amazing acting, the movie was a success only (ONLY) because of him. The other "actors" did nothing, no acting. Eastwood says nothing and only shoots and/or chewing a cigar. Lee van cliff- OK, he does not need to talk, his facial physique does all the talking. But Eli Wallach- Amazing! He dominates the fun, the fear, the zest of Tuco. Some of his facial gestures will stay with ne forever.

A good movie with excellent examples of no language ability is the "Big Lebowski." While it was entertaining to see Jeff Bridges and John Goodman using curse words within their characters, I wouldn't use a degrading form of language like theirs. Another good example is "Beavis and Butt-Head." They couldn't form a sentence to save their lives. Yet, with good characters and well written scripts as the above examples, the entertainment value can be off the charts. But, in real life, people who are not well spoken and live destructive lifestyles are frowned upon. Obviously, there's good reason for that.
