    Autopsy report basically states that the initial impact twisted his body to the right, turning his head to the right. Then the wall impact sent him forward, the 1 part of the lap belt sheared which allowed him to fling forward a bit farther, the back right of his head hit the right side of the steering wheel and thats what did him in. The wall impact dropped his total speed by around 44mph, or 70kph. Failed belt and a very unfortunate series of events But like others have said, this mans last moments were watching his team/son winning this race. He built himself a damn good legacy and made many people so excited. We all go eventually and instead of just passing out alone in an apartment, he died going 170mph watching his family win a race. What a man.

    It was the basilar skull fracture that killed him. He wasn’t wearing the HANS device and the impact through him forward with a sudden stop causing the basilar skull fracture, killing him instantly

  • @sacr3

    @sacr3

    Жыл бұрын

    @@sams.358 Yes and no, it was combined with the twisting of the vehicle, the failed lapbelt and the hans device that contributed to his death. If the lap belt didn't fail, his head wouldn't have twisted and struck the edge of the wheel as it did. It was a 44mph deceleration, people in cars have accidents at these speeds all the time and very rarely suffer a basal skull fracture. Hence why it was the set of circumstances combined with a failed belt, that allowed his body to contort the way it did and strike the wheel the way it did. A hans device may have helped, no kidding, but it would be interesting to see how an individual comes out of an accident when their head is held back as their torso lunges forward.

    sacr3: Not many people know that Rusty Wallace is the one who put Dale into the death angle with the wall. It’s definitely nobody’s fault but just saying why Dale went into the wall like he did. Watch in slow mo...u see Dale was headed for a hit on wall with right side of his car. After Sterling nudge he might tried to save it for a second which sent him back on track going towards wall in an angle but the Wallace nudge is the one who sent him into the death angle. If only Kenny was like 000.2 seconds ahead of original spot he would saved Dale from going into the wall like he did but instead his position made it worse.

    I had the WONDERFUL PLEASURE of meeting this Legend at 12 years old. And I will never forget that day as long as I live. My dad was actually friends with a few people from NASCAR and we were at a friend's business and there was a 4X4 Black Silverado parked and I think he was actually waiting for someone. And I was actually a huge fan of his. So the guy who owned the business told me to go knock on the window of the truck and tell him I liked the truck. So I did. And then the window started coming down and I was able to see the Black tinted Aviator sunglasses and the mustache. And he smiled at me and said I like that hat boy. I was ABSOLUTELY STAR STRUCK AND I HONESTLY COULDN'T EVEN SPEAK.

    I’ve lived in Concord for a few years. I’ll admit that all I knew of the Charlotte Motor Speedway was the mad crazy traffic that it brought whenever races were held there. Now I see why. Now I see why Dale Earnhardt is so revered, not only in Cabarrus County NC , but in the entire country. LEGENDARY. ICONIC. PHENOMENAL. God bless him and his family. I look forward to learning more about NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt’s legacy. Got this Brooklyn girl all choked up. Awesome!

    3:49 Darryl Waltrip has it wrong. Schrader's impact on Earnhardt did not jolt Earnhardt's head sideways. What Schrader's car did was (so very unfotunately) collide with Earnhardt's car to point it more directly into the wall. For years I've been saying that was a KEY FACTOR as to why Dale hit the wall so hard. Not necessarily because of Marlin's bump at the outset. And because of his great skill, Dale was actually going to correct himself enough NOT to hit the wall so directly. But the second unfortunate bump from Schrader's car (no fault of Schrader) took that away 2:07. So sad.....So sad.

    You’re right, you can clearly see Dale steering in a way so that he wouldn’t go head on into the wall and instead just wall ride it. But then he bumps Schrader and all of sudden his car clearly gets turned head on into the wall. But it definitely ain’t Ken’s fault.

    My mother first stumbled upon this sport 33 years ago, but she didn’t fully watched it until ‘92, and she became a big Dale fan. While Dale crashed in ‘01, she said it was the worst accident that she had witness, even though it didn’t seemed that bad of a wreck, but it claimed the life of her favorite driver. Today she hasn’t watched a full race since 2017, and as of currently her favorite driver is Kevin Harvick, and I bet Dale will still be her all-time favorite for many years to come. RIP Dale.

    "Dale was superman,,, we thought he'd never get hurt...". No mortal man is invincible and if he ever thinks he is or others do,,, he is soon humbled in a terribly harsh way. It then serves as a hard reminder to everyone that we are all ultimately small and fragile. He got reckless out there and really tempted fate and fate answered. He was a great racer though. RIP.

    I remember that day like it was yesterday. I was glued to the TV waiting for Mike Helton's words after the race. No one cared that Mike Waltrip won, that Jr. came in second. We just wanted to know about Dale... although we kinda "Knew" what was coming... The fact that There WAS no word for a long time spoke volumes that day...and even when Mike Helton announced it, I couldn't believe it could happen to him.... My question, like everyone else's was, "What's going to happen to Nascar?" It all changed in a Heartbeat. I'll always feel Dale WON that race for the Boys that day. Had he not held up "The Pack" they might not have won.. Not saying he intended to wreck. Just that he kept the field out of contention for the last turn Insuring Mike's win... Like it was said though, it was the "First" race that Dale was not racing to Win, but instead to Block the rest of the field so that Mikey or Jr. would....His plan worked to a "T"... Maybe if he'd raced to win he might still be here today... A lot of other Driver's said that Dale would loosen his belts sometimes before the checkered flags. He may have thought that they had "it" won and so he loosened them up to ease it in at 3rd place. Then it all went wrong...smh.
