Greg I’m not sure I understand you. Do you mean if you have over a million $$ you can’t be blue collar? I’m blue collar or at least I think I am. If you combine my 401k and savings account I’m over that million mark and I didn’t get it sitting behind a desk or wearing a suit and tie every day its steel toe boots and a hard hat every day for the last 24 years. So I guess my question to you would be what color should my collar be?

i agree Isabelle. i will never forget that day. i was in bnoc, (the army's non-commissioned officer course) at the time, and at the end of the race, me and my buddies all thought dale would be ok. we went out for dinner after the race, then found out a couple of hours later at our barracks that he had been killed. i think i cried just about ever day for a week straight. i was an army ranger at the time, and i am still not ashamed of my crying. while watching this video, i had one more long cry for dale earnhardt, my all time favorite driver ever. i can image the intimidator making jesus nervous right now in heaven when he sees that black #3 in the rear view mirror on sundays.

Isabelle, I still remember Dale's First Winston Cup Race... And Darlington 1982, when he became a household name - when Oil shot out of his Engine, and Old Dale ran half a lap at FULL speed to the Pits - with his *head sticking out of the Window!!!* The World knew that they weren't dealing with just another Driver! The Sport ENDED for me that day in 2001... I still support Jr., but have never watched with the same Fan intensity. 💔

It was hurtful because even though I was new to the sport I already knew that Dale Earnhardt Sr was legend and pioneer for the motorsport community. It is hard for me to revisit the events of February 18, 2001. I had followed Dale Earnhardt for almost all of my NASCAR viewing. On this day, I almost lost my brother, then I witnessed the loss of my favored driver. That was my birthday present that year. Almost lost my brother early that morning then caught the last 10 laps to witness Earnhardt lose his life doing what he loved. I still remember it all like it was yesterday. RIP ol' Ironhead, see you on the other side.

I have never been a big NASCAR fan. Growing up in South Carolina, it never seemed interesting to me. Just guys going around a circle. In 2001, I was living in Alabama and had a buddy from NC who loved NASCAR. His dad worked for one of the teams and he used to volunteer to work in the pits (handing over the gas tanks to refuel, etc.). One day he invited me over to watch the race and during the race he explained everything to me. I now understood and appreciated rage skill and beauty of this sport. I quickly became a fan. Even when I wasn’t a fan, I knew who Dale Earnhardt was. So tragic, but al least he died doing what he loved.

The reason this crash was way more serious than it should have been was because Dale was the last driver to wear an open face helmet combined with Dale's seating position which was very prone compared to anyone else's. Due the way the seat was mounted one of the anchors of the five point system failed and Dale's chin contacted the steering wheel. When Larry McReynolds was Dale's crew chief the previous season Larry refused to allow Dale to participate in final practice at Talledega because he deemed the seat belt anchors to be unsafe. Sad Sad Sad

One of the best 500’s in recent memory from a racing standpoint and it all came crashing down on the final lap. I was a big rusty Wallace fan growing up but when I found out that dale had died it’s like a piece of me died with him.
