Reloading 10mm auto with Accurate No.7 powder

I reload 10mm auto with Accurate No.7 powder. Pistol used is the Springfield Armory XDM 10mm. Also chronograph the velocity and check function at the range.

Careful with loads for Jacketed bullets and using lead instead.

When he said mid range I would not have expected a charge that close to maximum. Lead bullets usually offer less resistance going down the barrel so theoretically would be safe enough to use jacketed data for lead, but if you start building up leading in the barrel that could be a problem. Also bullet shape can affect seating depth. And last the published data for 10mm is usually a bit conservative these days, original factory 10mm loads were hotter. YMMV, The old recommendation to reduce loads and work your way up is always valid.

Just put some reloads over the chrono today with Glock G40 and 7" KKM Barrel. Tried 11.8 grain AA7 and 180 grain Berry's Bullets - copper plated. Loaded 2 rounds up and they went 1404 and 1406FPS. Felt good to shoot but waaay to fast for copper plated bullets. Pulled back the charge to get to + or - 1200FPS. Ran 10 rounds through the gun and accuracy was exceptional. 20lb spring on my setup, throws the brass about 4 feet on ejection. Brass looks great after shooting. This load is going to be a keeper for power plinking!

Yeah, that was too fast, even for a 7" barrel. Glad you worked out a good load! Appreciate you watching!

That's a pretty good group for offhand with a plastic pistol in the snow. I would not want to be chasing that brass, the Springfield will throw it a long way.

Yeah, I was shooting good that day! Plenty of 10mm brass left by other shooters at the range, easy to pick up! Thanks for watching!

I have used AA #7 for my 10mm with 180gn FMJ. They are consistent for velocity (when my chronograph is working right) but the accuracy stinks. I just got a batch of powder coated lead from acme today. Was going to try longshot but may have to revisit AA #7. Thanks!

This is the first video I have watched about hand loading bullets I’m trying to learn so I can get a set up and start loading. How much do you have invested In your reloaded ? Love the videos keep up the great work Buddy.

I have been reloading since I was a kid so I have a few presses and a lot of equipment. I used a Lee Turret press in this video, MidwayUSA has a kit with this press for $290.00. Real problem these days is finding primers. Make sure you get a good Handloading manual like from Hornady or Lyman. Thanks, stay safe and good luck!

@@svtkilrprimers are not 500 bucks for any amount there are eight bucks for 100 of them be careful reloading do not put a double charged when you put the gunpowder immediately press the LED slug in it's not as efficient but safer you don't want to put double gunpowder gun can explode they're not indestructible I have blown up a revolver last year 45 Colt exploded like a grenade

Isn't that velocity a little high for cast bullets After that shooting session did you see any lead in your barrel

Those are Oregon Trail hard cast bullets, at the velocity I measured, about 1140fps, I would not expect any serious leading. Thanks for watching!

Just got my first 10mm. Liked it so much I bought a s&w 610 revolver. You don't happen to have the number for Gun Nuts Anonymous, or Friends of Guns W., do ya John? 😄

I have reloaded and shot a very similar load without any problems. So the bullets are getting stuck in the barrel? I would verify that the charge is actually 12.2 grains, verify that there is a proper crimp, maybe use a different large pistol primer. Do all the reloads do that, or once in a while?

So the AA-9 powder you got was a new unopened bottle when you got it? VV N350 is a similar burn rate to AA-7 and CFE-Pistol. AA-9 is a slower, magnum pistol powder. It needs a good crimp and a hot primer for full ignition. Try another primer, or a magnum pistol primer. I hope this helps, let me know.

You should warn new reloaders that they should not use your loads as listed. As noted, almost max for FMJ and almost certain above max for cast bullets. Suggest you edit your description.

I politely disagree that the load is above max pressure for cast bullets as loaded. The load is fine. Hey, thanks for your input and watching!

Good catch. Accurate lists two 10mm loadings for cast in the 180 range for Number 7. A 175 at 10.4 max and a 185 at 10.2 max. Personally, if I want to shoot target loads in my 10mm, I'll load 40S&W 180 coated cast at

I usually will take my loads directly from the handloading manuals, or the powder manufacturer's data. The only time I balk at the recommended loads printed and load lighter, is when I intentionally load to get hotter than max, which is very rare. After thirty-plus years with my trusty RCBS Rock Chucker II single stage press, I've found that most actual reloading velocities and pressures are really under the published data for those statistics. This is because the Alliants, Hodgdon, and Noslers of the world know that there are guys like me, who are going to push the envelope occasionally. So, if we load to their specifications up to their recommended max, there's little chance of the round going "BOOM!" instead of "BANG!" Believe me, there is a difference! Ask me how I know. No, wait, don't ask!🤣
