Reloading 9mm with Accurate No.7, old powder still good?

I reload 9mm with 2 different cans of Accurate No.7 powder, one old and one new. Is the old can still good? Let's chronograph them and see how they shoot!

I am running Accurate No. 7, old can (probably 15 years old) and CCI primers. Tried 6.5, 7.0, and 7.5 with a compensated gun (Glock 45 with a Ramject comp) and could not get the rounds to eject. 8.0 finally worked for me.

Interesting that the old powder has lost some punch and the difference in point of impact. I've got some 40 year old Bullseye in a cardboard canister that I've been loading and it shoots fine but I don't have a chrony or any new Bullseye to compare it to. Good video.

Thanks! Yeah, I still have some older powder in the metal cans so I go back and forth between cans and bottles!

Both are pretty well centered. The velocity difference could be due to slight changes in the formula and ingredients over the years. Its impossible to know for sure. It goes bang and that's all that matters in these times of shortages. I almost did something stupid once (going on some bad advice) and thought about discarding old powder. Glad I didn't.

Yes, both powders are good, just a bit different. With today's shortages, got to use everything! Thanks for watching!

I have a pound of the old label container, purchased around 3 decades ago. I think I bought it for .357 but rarely loaded magnum level loads. I want to use it up and thought to do so with some 9mm 124/5 gr FMJs. I've read a lot of posts, it seems an iffy proposition but I wanted to point out here is that your load is over the max load in the Hogdon load data, though your OAL is 0.050" longer. I am viewing this a year after it was posted, but I doubt that the load data changed within the last year. So I'm wondering where got your load data.

My load data, as it was a caption in the video, was from the Hornady 10th Edition manual, page 867. Max load is 7.9 gr. of AA-7 with a 124gr bullet, col of 1.150", my load was 7.8 grains. The newest Hornady manual, 11th edition, shows the same load. Hey, thanks for watching!

Just curious about how dirty your AA7 loads were and if there was a difference between the old and new jugs? I'm shooting 9mm major with 9.6gr of AA #7, 124gr Winchester FMJ bullet, mixed range brass, and a 1.160" OAL. Just purchased my 8# jug a few months ago. From my experience it is very dirty and leaves cornmeal in the gun.

I do not think my loads were too dirty, but I shoot a lot of W231 which is probably dirtier. Thanks for watching!

Yeah, once in a while, I come across a bottle of powder than appears bad and has weird smell. Depends more on how it has been stored. I won't use it. Also, many powders are not made in the USA, Varget, most IMR, most Reloader, are some examples. Powder formulations and where they are made change. Glad you found the video enjoyable!

@@30-06john Hell of a claim. The old vs new The title I mean. Besides In general European-made powders, Including old Eastern Block, are superior. Cleaner and have an awesome smell.
