Relieve Rotator Cuff Pain and Injuries with Self-Massage
Rotator cuff injuries are very common, especially for those who work with their arms lifted, like painters or carpenters, and for athletes that practice repetitive shoulder movements, such as throwing a ball, swinging a racquet, or swimming. Even the repetitive motions of working at a computer can lead to rotator cuff injuries, especially if the work station is not ergonomic.
The rotator cuff is made up of 4 muscles and their tendons (supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor, and subscapularis) that form a “cuff” or sleeve around the shoulder to stabilize the ball in socket joint-the head of the humerus in the glenoid fossa.
If you have rotator cuff pain, this self-massage can help you to locate the source and treat it. Please get an accurate diagnosis and clearance from your doctor before practicing this massage.
If you don’t have pain, but are at risk for a repetitive strain injury (RSI), practice this massage a minimum of 2-3 times per week in order to prevent injuries and maintain the health of the rotator cuff.

Thanks. A lot ! You are so amazing and i feel better bcs of doing together with you, however.... Could you suggest please how long will it take to recover from the my frozen shoulder if I found this issue 3 months ago and keep physical therapy exercises and self massage ?

I suggest speaking to your doctor and physical therapist. Very helpful video, thanks you.. Would be even more if the area in question was shown in third person (or would that be second person 🤔?!) , so on a dummy skeleton or diagram to give a more precise visual of the area being discussed rather than just on self. Also would be good to see your demonstration and guidance being carried out by a second person being taught for the first time (so a lay person) as I think it would give viewers more confidence about carrying out techniques to themselves because personally I watch such videos but still worry I won't be able to do them correctly & /or that I'll end up having done more harm than good.

Rachel thank you so much, reallly life changing for my long term rotator cuff. A question, at around 13.00-15.00 in your video when you are pushing into the wall under the arm, are you pushing against a muscle there? It looks like you are just pushing more the mass of the arm fllesh, and then you say be careful not to go into the armpit so i am having trouble understanding this one. Thank you.

So glad it's helpful! Good question - yes, we are targeting the muscle subscapularis, behind the scapula. The placement is very specific. You want to avoid pushing into the middle of your armpit so that you don't damage the superficial nerves, blood vessels and lymph nodes. If you're not sure about how to safely access the muscle, I recommend skipping it and seeing a skilled massage therapist to do the deeper work.

I got a question for ya. How do massage therapists keep their hands soft for massage? My hands are so dry that I scratch myself sometimes doing the massages lol. For example the one where you are pinching your eyebrows. The sides of my fingers actually hurt my skin because they feel sharp. Any secrets up your sleeve ?😊

No secrets, Lily. Just mild hand soap and lots of moisturizer.
I had surgery on my RC 3 years ago (3 weeks before my 25th birthday)And man has it been rough for me. I’m in pain all of the time , can’t sleep on my left side anymore 😞 I can’t stretch my arm like before. I feel like I was discharged too soon from Physical therapy because my insurance ended. Maybe I didn’t heal good? but my arm it’s just not the same anymore 😢
