Adding honor: we found an antique quilt done years ago, found as padding for valances in our home. The miracle was that this country woman made a diamond patch- that she made by doing strip quilting. Cut out the diamond, sewing it into a star. I still have it, so grateful.

How absolutely stunning! Love all of them. I was thinking the one antique top with those intricate stars, maybe one sews strips of all the colours first, then cuts them into diamonds that are sewn into the 8 point star block? Edyta Sitar has a very good tutorial in how to do Y seams as they're part of the 8 point stars.

Thanks for sharing your Red and Green collection. It was truly awesome. Many of your quilts with the “yellow” are not cheddar, they are Chrome Yellow. Especially the quilt in the video right after the one you state you might make a coat out of. Also many of the quilts most likely were made I. The early 1800’s and not the late 1800’s. Red and Green quilts were the large crazy in the 1800’s up into the 1840’s. As more colors came into existence with the alkaline dyes Red and Green fell out of vogue. Also with the American civil war more scrap quilting came into fashion due to trade embargo’s and blockades. The changing greens to blues and yellows are referred to as fugitive green. Your challenge to reproduce some of the quilt blocks I would be happy to assist you if your interested. I love hand piecing and and design. My love of quilts and being a civil war re-enacted would make this right up my alley. Respectfully yours.

I live in Eugene, Or and have been stuck at home because of freezing rain. We have over an inch of ice on the ground. So, I have been staying home and sewing and stitching. I love seeing the projects you have “dug out” and finished. I am trying to also stitch from stash, both sewing and cross stitch. I will be looking up Melissa Gilbert’s fabric line……I am a Little House on the Prairie fan. I have the FQ bundles of Maureen McCormick fabric ( Moda). Stay warm and Happy Sewing.

Thank you very much for sharing those magnificent quilts. I’m just about to start another hand pieced quilt, I was going to do scrappy multi colored. Now I’m going to do scrappy Red, Cream and Green! Without your show I wouldn’t have had that thought, so thank you. Seeing all those quilts was a treat. I’ll rewatch the show for sure and tell my quilting friends.

Question… I have about 10 antique quilts from the late 1800’s to the 1920’s. They are in great shape!! However, they are not quilted. I am NOT a hand quilter! Should I have them machine quilted? Will that ruin them. I don’t have them displayed because they are not quilted. What should I do?? Thanks for your insights!

So many beautiful quilts! I'm wondering about your comment that the star quilt at the end was not made with templates. I've drafted a few star blocks and then made templates for the individual pieces. Especially when fussy cutting. How do you think it was assembled?

Is any of that green dyed fabric made with arsenic? It was very popular in the Victorian era and was used in Paris green and Scheel’s green. Paris green had a blue-green look.

The quilts are beautiful. Because they are the same color family are they from the same area of the country and made in the 1800's. What is the price range? I have pieces from my grandmother 100 years not near the quality of yours. I like to look at the fabric. Elaine S Menominee MI
