    I used a GoPro 5 without a Supersuit snorkeling in Mexico for 1 month last year and no filter with not bad images and no problems. I was careful to inspect the seals each time. Two months later in Jamaica, first time snorkeling my camera leaked and was destroyed. I have since had the camera replaced, but I will never risk water damage again without a Supersuit. I appreciate your filter advice and look forward to trying one. Thanks for your great videos.

    I have a gopro hero 5 dive case (aka waterproof upto 60m) and i just leave it on constantly as the hero 5's screen and lens smash really easy so i just keep the case on and its saved my gopro at least 3 times, and due to the trible mics even with the case the audio is still better than all of the other gopro's

    Have you tried the Flip5 packages? Switching lenses without having to fumble with actually remove the lens while diving would be extremely handy. You can even have a 35mm adapter and macro lens.

    The super suit is helpful because when you put the bare GoPro underwater, the water activates the touch screen often changing modes on you or entering into settings or other nonsense. Of course, you can lock the menu before entering the water but that limits your options while submerged.

What resolution and at what fps should I be using for 40m dive( day light, blueish water and water visibility is about 20 to 25m)?

  • @timoketonen

    Blue tropical waters use the red filter but beware any cheap "noname" red filters - totally rubbish and you just waste your footage. Only trust good brands like Magic or PolarPro- Attach red filter only after 5m depth or so - otherwise orange and red glares. Resolution depends on your needs. For facebook footage 720p and 50fps is totally fine. In KZread/Vimeo you might want to use full 1086p and 30-50ftp. Remember, higher the fps and more light gopro requires. In dark waters use lower fps to avoid "pixelaration". * Avoid superwide setting since makes the image distorted.

  • @KazCanning

    @KazCanning

    5 жыл бұрын

    Probably not. White balance works well with raw photography, but video is generally compressed and lacks a lot of information that you would be able to accurately white balance in post. You would save yourself a ton of time and get a better end product if you get the filter and get good footage out of the camera.

    I have posted a few photos from different trips I have been on here: imgur.com/a/bDZUo the first should show you that if you want to take photos of people just under the water there is no need for a red filter. The next two show a comparison with and without a red filter at 15ft. There is a photo taken from the surface looking down to about 10ft which shows how around the surface you may not need the filter and there is a comparison shot between no filter and a software filter snorkeling. If I was in your position I would be getting a red filter to go on the supersuit. They are not that much money and I think it will help you take better photos and video. Plus it is super easy to take off for above the water shots or if you find it is really not needed.

  • @kylemartin101

    @kylemartin101

    6 жыл бұрын

    I am see how you could be confused. If you shoot RAW photos only you can get by without a red filter. If you want to shoot video or photos which require less editing you NEED a red filter. Yes you will be shooting through more lense but this dagrigation is not nearly as bad as the added benefit of having the color correct. The problem is that without a red filter there is not enough color information in the JPG photos and .MP4 video files to correct. You need the filter to get the camera to capture all the colors.
