Rebuilding one of the few rust-free 2006 GMC Sierras in Illinois part 2
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
We took a trip to Florida to get a door that is rustfree and worthy of being use on this rebuild. There is actually over 8000 miles of driving to get this truck and all its parts here to Illinois. Houston for the truck, Houston again for the cab parts, Atlanta for the rear door and Bradenton for the front door. Now that we have everything we need lets get the hard part done and send it off to paint.

If you figure in the cab parts, the total miles driven is actually over 8000.

I have to say, the fact that you can lift those doors on and off so easily kinda impresses me. I had to do the same for my F150 and I had to use a forklift, there was no WAY I was lifting it off by myself. Plus I'm a little shorter than you so I couldn't grab it properly either.

Very impressive. It's an old truck, you could have left the old inner rocker in place, fitted the outer, and nobody would have cared. This is proof you only do things 100% right. 👍

Scott you should start looking at houses in TX, we've got plenty rust free trucks and even more people who can't drive. You'd never have to worry about winterizing a vehicle again. :)

Cheers from California 👍🏻
Scott, as always you do super quality work. I was so impressed that you replaced and primered up all the inner structure. That is true Quality!!!
One beautiful thing about watching you do this for years now, I already knew how you were going to fix this. Even though I knew, I am still in awe every time I see you do this. I come for the incredible work but I stay because of the sarcasm and personality. I bet that truck will be worth more in the land of corruption and rust than it would back here in Tx.

Thanks. Once you have done it, they are all pretty much the same. Panels may go in, in different spots, there might be more panels, but the process is always pretty much the same. Thanks for the support! You are correct, rustfree trucks bring a premium up here where they are rare. If someone brought one of our trucks down there, junkyards might charge the people to take it! 😂

There's actually a lot more work involved in this repair than what you'd think. The damage didn't look that bad at first. At least it wasn't as bad as the other side of the black parts cab. You might even get the job finished in the next video. All the best from Queensland Australia.
@vehcor

People think you just hack off the old parts and weld up the new ones and you are done. I like the cab swap approach if you have the same color, no waiting on the painting gnomes. There is still a lot left to do that was not from the accident, just 15 year old truck things.
The thing I love about watching you work on these wrecks, is that you don’t rebuild them, you remanufacture them‼️ (when you’re done, they are better than factory OEM) 👍👍👍
I love that you take the time to do it the right way and since i'm learning its good to see how it SHOULD be done. and I can tell you take pride in your work!
STILL... Love your content Scott! Love your humor and your even temperament. Thank you!
Scott a most outstanding professional & efficient repair! You always impress me with the quality of your work. I have hung around body shops most of my life & seen some dicey repairs from time to time! You always go the extra mile to make sure your rebuild can serve a long & useful life! If I needed a truck I wouldn't be a bit afraid to buy this one from you! Well done!
It’s a pleasure to watch you work methodically and 100% correct and ending with a vehicle that is safe to drive 👍🏻
You really are the door man in this video !!! Great video, you do have great fortitude, no short cuts, no guessing, just striving for perfection, KUDOS !
You did over 8000 miles, In Australian that means you did just under a complete lap of our country to pick up a bent truck and parts, now that is dedication to your craft Scott thanks for the content 👍
Don't you love how well GM panels fit when you cut them off a donor vehicle. It is definitely worth the extra time. I used factory GM sheetmetal when I restored my trans am, but lately when I bought new repro panels for the Jimmy I was disappointed.
Your work is impeccable and your dry humour is killer man , big respect from England .

Thanks for the support and I’ll keep trying for your Mopars.

This is the sort of truck that is a perfect repair candidate. It's likely to be good for another 5 to 10 years even with the local rust issues. It's complete, seems otherwise very clean, and will make someone a very good work truck for a long time to come. It's also a great financial deal for you, as you pay low scrap prices in the south and then get to sell the repaired truck for a good price locally. Great job and great business too.

Amazon used to sell these - Safe Eyes Stainless Steel Mesh No-Fog Safety Goggles - had mine for over 6 years. Very fine mesh, easy to see through, keeps out saw dust, debris and bolts. Amazon sells similar products now, check the fineness of the mesh and projectile resistance in choosing one. Great for what you do, not as great in front of a grinding wheel w/o full face shield, but No Fog always.
