Worse is that he makes his protagonist an utterly amoral villain without even realising it, she killed the kid because she believed him when 'Belisarius told her he would protect her'. No moral agency and she regrets her actions seemingly only because he broke his promise to make her immune to punishment for the murder of the child. It's only that betrayal that causes her to reflect (and lets not even get into the utter idiocy of having him scream about her betrayal to a crowd that was fully complicit in the murder of the Royal couple, it's not like they need to be convinced of anything) utterly tone deaf imagery for imagery's sake which makes no sense upon even the briefest contemplation. Scream it down a radio to a remote security battalion once she's in custody perhaps, but gesturing histrionically at her while she's still armed to willing collaborators is absolute nonsense.

To be fair he works better if there is someone actually limiting him and only if he is involved in cinematic shots with heavy supervision, though what I consider to be good from him was Guardians of Gahool but even that movie has issues, the shots he directed there were amazing however I don't understand how this dude is inconsistent with what he should already be familiar with at this point, cause the camera work in his later movies are dogshit compared to Guardians and that's a fully animated movie about fucking owls and somehow his best work arguably his camera work there is decent to great, since the writing aspect was taken from the book with heavy cut off by the writers to make it fit although they did change some of the significant parts which is baffling and somewhat understandable, it's absolutely valid to ask what the hell was Zack on when it comes to actual growth as a director it's like the guy heard good things about his work and then instead of improving decided he was perfect all if a sudden.

I feel like with Snyder a lot of his fans aren't actually online. Like, at my work EVERYONE had seen the Snydercut and was talking about it. Similarly, everyone had seen 300, and Watchmen, and the DC movies, and even Sucker Punch. Those people are pretty irrelevant to online discourse, and they're not very loyal, which is a double-edged sword because it means that if Rebel Moon is bad they might not know about it, or care about it enough to not see Snyder's next movie. Like, his next project could be a remake of Ice Cream Man and people would happily see it and just completely forget about Rebel Moon.

Films that performed poorly when released then found a cult following later, were usually pretty low budget but made by a passionate team that really worked hard to make it what they wanted it to be, to realise a collective vision. These Rebel Moon movies are just the vanity project of one deluded narcissist. They have no redeeming qualities and no lasting , or timeless, message. That's why they aren't good now and won't become cult classics.

This is an anti-classic: Deriving shit from the most popular sci-fi franchises. Obvious writing by commitee. Expensive production. Made by one of the biggest names on Hollywood. Too boring to be mocked. Too generic to be remembered. If this movie is not forgotten, it will only be used as an example of incompetent filmmaking, like the black and white "before" on a product ad. Zack Snyder _wishes_ that Rebel Moon shared the same category as Tommy Wiseau's The Room.

It’s honestly shocking to me why Zac Snyder wants to make FOUR more of these movies. This is some of the laziest vapid writing I’ve ever seen and some of the most terrible world building I’ve ever seen. I feel no passion from this movie it’s just so bland. I’ve seen both of these movies and I still don’t understand anything about the powers in this world. I mean it’s kinda implied that humans are under the illusion magic isn’t real, since the powers of the little girl were only described as rumors. The reason they push the franchise model is because the industry is so bloated with such a ridiculously high amount of money being invested in everything, that it isn't enough to just make a good movie anymore. The way they have made cinema as a business today is too big to sustain itself, everything has to be a franchise, everything has to have multiple cuts they can sell, everything has to have prepackaged sequels and make hundreds of millions of dollars per release. It was a lot of short-sighted gains with ZERO regard for where the industry might be in 10+ years, especially if they couldn't produce anything anyone would bother paying to see.

I have no idea how can anyone defend this. I was pretty generous to Snyder up to Rebel Moon, which is hands down the worst movie I've seen in ages.

The nonsense feast scene was a sneaky Pro-Palestine signal. The watermelon is a code for the Palestine flag (red flesh, white rind, green shell, black seeds). People who defend this movie loved that.

TF are you talking about dude? This movie was shot and done way before that war even started. Y'all "everything is political" mf'ers really need to apply your thinking meat more often.

Haven't seen, 'Army of the Dead,' or, 'Rebel Moon. Didn't care. Positivity is water in the Sahara desert around here. Re-Review SOMA, MauLer. Give us a drink.
