The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

Barry was chosen the most beautiful singer in 1968! Love the version from 1979 live, with his "Disco outfit) and pictures of his wife with his little son, he sings there with so much passion for them!

This song was written by all the brothers together.....only over time did it become Barry's song for Linda.......

They may be unexpected to you though The Brothers Gibb were huge in the mid to late 1960’s with hit after great hit. You need to react to some of there other tunes like Massachusetts, To Love Somebody., and I started a Joke. They we’re at least 6 years away or more from the disco style that they developed later on.

...........and so you can see, they were just a sensation, those days! Here Barry and then Robin singing 'I Started A Joke'. Sharing leadvocals from song to song.

They started singing when Barry was 8 and the twins were 5. Robin is playing the piano and Mo is on guitar in the green suit.

"Words" was written especially for the soundtrack to a movie called "The Mini Mob" which was never released. According to Robin it was written after an argument. "Barry had been arguing with some, I had been arguing with someone and happened to be in the same mood. The arguments were about absolutely nothing. They were just words. Words can make you happy, words can make you sad" Officially Barry, Robin and Maurice are THE composers. The complex sound discovered for this song is called "limited" (1 piano sound like it was 40 pianos playing at the same time and very thick). It was used on all their records.

Disco was a minuscule part of the music that they wrote and sang. They were so much more than disco singers. They hated being called disco singers. They released 1 disco album out of their 39. They were ask to wrote the music for the movie Saturday Night Fever before even reading the script. They knew that it was about dancers, so they wrote dance music. After the movie was release the tag disco was attached to their music. Disco wasn't even their best songs just the best known. You really must listen to the beautiful, Too Much Heaven, Fanny Be Tender With My Love, Love You Inside Out, Alone and I could go on and on. They sang from 60's -2000's, until two of the brothers passed away. Each era their music changed to fit the music of the time.
