My favorite BeeGee music is from the '60s and early '70s.

BeeGees go across nearly 4 decades, so many different BeeGees experiences. They wrote and harmonized beautifully. Each brother has most beautiful tone and can lead. They are unmatched! Thank you, please continue your BeeGees journey!

All three brothers (as well as the 4th younger brother) had incredible voices. Even if their later falsetto style isn't your cup of tea, it too was incredible, as was their song writing. Decades of musical success is testimony this.

You have to get rid of prejudices and listen to the wonderful Too Much Heaven,.... yes, with falsetto and also BEAUTIFUL, with absolutely unsurpassed harmonies. The Bee Gees were absolute geniuses and very mistreated by the media and by people who, unable to delve into their music, their vocal harmony, the quality of their compositions and recordings, remained on the surface, their tight pants, their necklaces and their hair

This was a huge hit in 1968 and this is the young Bee Gees of the 1960's and early 1970's which I personally prefer..... Massachusetts, I Started a Joke, I've Got to Get a Message to You, etc. My favorite is Run To Me.....beautiful, pre disco Bee Gees!

Simplicity paired with unforgettable poetry, the Bee Gees always hit deep into the soul, which is probably the reason why so many have remained in love with the Gibb Brothers for decades. This song is one of the most covered songs in music history, even Elvis and Janis Joplin have covered this classic. ❤❤

I have written this before, but one once said "The Bee Gees do not write songs about women but songs to women" This song is a perfect axample on this. "More Than A Woman" is also a great example. "Too Much Heaven" also.

Barry sang this so g through the years live in Melbourne 1989 and on his Mythology tour in 2013/2014 he sang to his wife Linda they married 9/1/1970. You would enjoy Lonely days, To love somebody or later songs I could not love you more or Wedding Day (written as a pledge to their wives). ❤❤❤

You should check into their performance of "Too Much Heaven". It is a masterpiece of a beautiful vocal harmony that is provided forever to the world, from the Bee Gees brothers, Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb. You will be amazed!

Pretty easy to see how they progressed into songs like How can you mend a broken heart etc.......................

I didn’t catch exactly which song with the high pitched voice you were referring to but I imagine that it must be from their very successful "disco" period from late 70’s onwards. I agree, the falsettos tended to a bit much. They have been singing since the late fifties as kids ( videos available on KZread ! ) but they were huge in the sixties and there is a treasure trove of hits which I am SURE you would fall for : I started a joke - Massachusetts - To love somebody … the list is endless. If you like this, you need to listen to "Lonely Days". It was my very favorite song as a young teenager.

This is very early Bee Gees, before Barry found his falsetto. I remember seeing them on the Ed Sullivan show. I think I was about 10 years old and was totally smitten!

This was in the late 60's. The Bee Gees had quite a number of hits during that time. The falsetto (high voice) came about in the 70's disco era. I'm thinking the 'piercing' high voice you're referring to was "Staying Alive'. But, there are so many other songs where Barry's falsetto was so good. I know you would love listening to "Too Much Heaven", and appreciate Barry's falsetto, as well as the brother's harmonies, and probably one of the most beautiful love songs you will ever hear. The Brothers Gibb = The Bee Gees. Phenomenal!

Life is beautiful, and love is beautiful. It's never been put any better than that. You two understand very well the power of wonderful music to reach inside your heart and soul and make you feel what the artist intended. If everyone in the world appreciated and loved beautiful music, there would only be love and kindness in the world.

My favourite time for them too and while I love this song, my first by them has to be 'Don't Forget to Remember Me'!

I still send cards at Christmas and Birthdays and I treasure the cards I have kept. I have my parents and grandparents signatures on them and they are gone now. I have funny and sweet cards from friends and loved ones that are no longer here. I can see and touch those words and hold the card they picked and sent. One of the sad things that is disappearing with technology. How thoughtful of Dominka to continue to send those cards because she know it means something to those family members.

@@kthorIt's a matter of taste and preference. My preference is the earlier songs/recordings without all the falsetto.

Bee Gee had #1. songs in the 60's 70's 80's 90's and recorded a top 10 hit in 2003. They sang for over 50 years and wrote #1 hits for several other individuals. The wrote over a 1000 songs many of them hits. This song was released in 1967.

I believe that this song is Linda's favorite. Linda is Barry's wife of more than 50 years.

Many of us who were fans of the Bee Gees since the 60s thought they "sold out" when they entered the disco era. That is also primarily when they went to singing falsetto on almost every song. Please check out some of their earlier songs like "Massachusetts", "I Started A Joke", "I've Got To Get A Message To You" or "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart".

Ya probably right " Mick the Miller", but they grafted for years working clubs etc.. They even fd/off to the other side of the world, trying to turn a shilling. ( escaping Mancunian weather, too ) I've no problem with 'em.

They never "sold out" to anything, except when the Fever & Spirits era took off and you couldn't get tickets to their sold out shows. That's what enabled them to finally start making a decent living while supporting all their families!

Great song! I grew up with this great group & had a lot of their albums. Most people react to their disco era. My favorites are from the 60's-70's. Some of their early hits were "New York Mining Disaster 1941", "Holiday", "World", "And The Sun Will Shine", "Really & Sincerely", "The Singer Sang His Song", "Lonely Days", "Melody Fair", "First Of May", "I Started A Joke", "I've Gotta Get A Message To You", "Massachusetts", "To Love Somebody" etc.

Saw them twice in the 60's brilliant.

Great video and reaction! Generally, when watching songs from the 60's I think it's better to listen/watch from that time vs. 40/50 years later. However, there are some great people who sound just as good later in life. Check out "I Started a Joke" video from the 60's with Robin singing.

The Bee Gees had many different styles! It wasn't all falsetto. I loved their early songs in the guys' normal voices. Their music is a treasure trove. Also listen to leads by each brother. (Maybe "Bodyguard" with Robin or "Closer than close" with Maurice). All had different voices but, partly due to being brothers genetically and singing together since childhood, they blended beautifully. Maurice said they had not just three voices but four because when Barry and Robin sang together, although their voices were very different, it sounded like another voice. This video, although the music is mimed (the voice is not), is unusual with Robin playing piano as he did when they were quite young.

Dominika is talking about how much sweeter and emotional love songs were back then, less sex and more feelings and caring, and I suppose that's true to an extent, but they also had censors back then and there was only so much innuendo they could get away with.

The BeeGees were: the tallest and oldest brother (with the big hair and beard), Barry Gibb, born September 1, 1946, the only surviving Gibb brother. Robin Gibb (with the long hair, no beard), born December 22, 1949-passed away May 20, 2012, and Robin's fraternal twin brother Maurice (the balding brother with the beard, pronounced "Morris") Gibb, born December 22, 1949-passed away January 12, 2003. They also had another, younger, brother Andy Gibb, born March 5, 1958-passed away March 10, 1988. The three oldest brothers were born on the Isle of Man (UK). Oldest brother Barry got seriously burned when he accidentally pulled boiling tea over himself at 18 months old. He was in coma for a while, nearly died and was in hospital for many months. Because of this, he did not learn to talk until after the twins were born. Later the family moved to Manchester and from there they emigrated to Australia in 1958, right after Andy was born. All 4 brothers are just natural musical talents. All of them dropped out of high school in their early teens and none of them could read or write music. All their compositions were created completely organically. Their musical career, which they had started as little kids, didn't lead to international success so they moved back to the UK in 1967. Then they had a string of big hits, until they temporarily broke up around 1970 for 15 months. Started back up, looking for a new sound which they first found in 1974 with the transitional album "Mr. Natural". After that "Main Course" was the first album that moved them into a new direction: more rhythm&blues, dance music like with great hits like Nights on Broadway and Jive Talkin' (and was also actually the first album on which their logo was introduced). Andy had a lower, huskier, sound to his voice and his range was not as big as Barry's. I personally always thought his voice was much better suited to songs of his first album, Flowing Rivers. Andy died of myocarditis - which is an inflammation of the heart - on March 10, 1988, 5 days after his 30th birthday. His heart had been weakened by his drug addiction over the years which, by the way, was also the main reason for his split from Victoria Principal. He also had a congenital heart problem that was later also discovered in Barry and Barry's second son Ashley. Barry Gibb told his dad he only ever put emotions to music, they wrote over 1,0000 songs. Many were hits for other big artists too. They had no formal music training at first, couldn't even read music. Had Very good, strong instincts though. When they were recording Nights on Broadway, was when they discovered Volce Falsetto existed. Music from before had their normal singing voices. After a while, Bary got sick of it too, but his bros said it's working, so keep doing that. Try Jive Talking, it's a bit Different.

@@kathleenmayhorne3183They could, but not so "long" and "clear". Listen to Robins falsetto voice in Robin Gibb Falsetto on Living Together 1979, it sounds very different from Barrys and for me a bit uncomfortable without the music, although I otherwise love the song!
