Robin Moore was with my father's detachment in Vietnam. Look up my father William T. Craig Special Forces. Song brings to tears to my eyes when I hear it, as General Victor Hugo said at my father's funeral, "A soldier's soldier"...what a great compliment! My father wrote 3 books: Lifer, Team Sergeant and Scare Time. Enjoyed your reaction to it, brings a lot of emotion when I hear it.

Hi Airjackster2 ... I remember this song when I as a youngster and was proud to hear it on the radio. I am now an old guy and still very proud to hear this song. These are the heros who keeps our great nation free. Thank you for your comment and thank you so much for your service to our country.

Song still has meaning today. With our soldiers still fighting all over the world

Great song, pure Americana something for you guys to be proud of. The John Wayne film is one of my favourites but I believe it's had a bit of a panning in recent years from certain types. If I was American I'd be proud of it. Anyway the song is very stirring.

Hi Speed ... I love John Wayne. One of my favorite actors and a great American patriot. My parents took me to the theater in 1968 to see the movie "The Green Berets". I have watched it many many times since. I think of myself as a proud patriot as well. Thank you for your wonderful comment! Keep rockin' ... 😎🎸✌

In 1966, the song 'Hundert Mann und ein Befehl' sung by Freddy Quinn was number 1 in Germany Charts.In this song doubts a soldier the meaning of war.I know some American soldiers who are stationed here in Germany, and everyone was amazed when I played them the song and they recognized the Ballad of the Green Berets in it.
