My father was a Green Beret. Sent on many a suicide mission.

I got his album (at my request) for my 14th birthday. My senior year, my boyfriend went to Vietnam; 101st airborne. He got home body healthy. Nuff said.

Dude, it was beautiful to see the song move you at the end. Thank you for checking it out. I've been listening to that song since it came out. I was a 6th grader and my brother would be drafted the next year, in '67.

I went to a green beret burial where his beret was presented to his very young son. There wasnt a dry eye in the house, including now.

You couldn’t have started with a better year. Great song. Powerful song.

Not surprising for someone of my era--this song premiered on The Ed Sullivan Show--the same program where the Beatles premiered in the USA.

Great song, what's amazing is that it tells you up front what happened to the Green Beret and it still went to no. 1.

In 1966, the song 'Hundert Mann und ein Befehl' sung by Freddy Quinn was number 1 in Germany Charts.In this song doubts a soldier the meaning of war.I know some American soldiers who are stationed here in Germany, and everyone was amazed when I played them the song and they recognized the Ballad of the Green Berets in it.

I recently heard a greatest Hits of 1966 World Hits! Turns Barry's Song who i grew up with is a direct Rip of a German song everything but, Green Beret lyrics!

Movie Green Beret with John Wayne used this song. The movie was a tear jerker

This beat is funky.

Wait till you see the next one

As a liberal patriot I love protest songs and marching music. This song always creates a lump in my throat, along with the national anthem. I joined the army and went to Nam to help the South Vietnamese. I also protested when i got back when I realized we didn't really care. We just supported a rght wing govt. who tortured and killed their own people against a left wing govt. that tortured and killed their own people.

Tear jerker!

Just FYI, the song actually was published that same year in a German version, "100 Mann und ein Befehl/100 Men and [in the sense of "following"] one Order" (without references to the US military or the Vietnam War, obviously) and rewritten to *question* the sense of warfare. (Link: kzread.info/dash/bejne/dnyAsbRmn5m6o7A.html; I can provide a translation if wanted.) It was the last major success for the singer, Austrian Freddy Quinn (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freddy_Quinn) who was active as a singer (no longer pop, but country) and actor until well into his 70s. It made it to the top spot of the German charts, and a re-release later that same year sung by a woman, Heidi Brühl, made it to no. 8. The German lyrics in that version were changed to reflect the soldier's wife's perspective.

Maybe? . In 2022 about 3000 entered phase I, and 900 qualified to continue training. And of those-----about 600 became Green Berets. So about one in 5 going into training became Green Berets. Pretty tough. Was it that much tougher back then---where only 1 in 33 made it in and earned the Green Beret?

Wow, first negative comment and all you could do was disparage Grogu? I'll take it.

It is a good song, but why did you decide to stop it right in the middle and throw in your commentary, you couldn't have waited until the song was over? Absolutely hate when channels like this do that, these are the kind of channels that will not get my like or a subscription! 👎👎👎👎👎👎

The reasoning is KZread algorithms. Stopping and starting a copyrighted song is a way to indicate that it’s a fair use style video, and adding commentary through the song is a part of how fair use is decided.
