I really do love Vessel's voice in the way that he sounds like he's wounded. He's so raw and emotional, and you can tell that these feeling that he's feeling are the most intense. He just pours his heart out into this music and it really is beautiful. In some videos of them live, if you listen close it sounds like vessel is crying while he sings. A good example of that is him singing hallelujah live.

Here's a virtual hug from a stranger who shares the love for Sleep Token music. "I want to feel my stars align again... Even if the Earth breaks like burnt skin" Feels like the universe swallows your whole being with damn good lyrics. The song opens up to many interpretations, some said it's about depression, lost love or the relationship with the higher power. It all boils down to what this song means to you. So what does it mean to you? Unfortunately, they didn't play this song when I went to see them last year, but a friend who went to the same show in Atlanta said they did. Worship.

First of all, thanks for the virtual hug *sarcastically * 😜 Like you said, the song is open to many intrepretations. My thoughts on this song is self-love. Everything was written in metaphors, but you can read between the lines. Sundowning (the title of the album) is a phenomenon linked to dementia. People with dementia tend to forget their loved ones and might hate themselves for forgetting things. He's fighting the battle within and trying to love himself. Btw, they played this song at their Camden show in February. I didn't go but my flatmate who's a big fan of ST went. Now I got jelly. Was sleeping on this band for so long.

I was looking for this type of comment mentioning the meaning of the song. You nailed it. Vessel would ask the same thing, 'What do you think the song means?' and opens the door to many interpretations. To me, it's about failed relationship. "I made loving you a blood sport." Love can be brutal. It can hurt you so badly. Hence, the tragic underlying tone in this song that speaks of his battle for his feelings (lost love), but eventually failed. Bummed they didn't play this song during the Montreal show too, but Sugar was a great replacement 😉

What Darby said. :) Also @Chase Cerneson: One day give the song "Gun" by Avatar a try. It's off their newest album, Hunter Gatherer and is just Johannes and the piano. He wrote it like 9 years ago, recording it via his phone. He/they tried to change it to make it 'fit' with previous albums, all to no avail. Finally, Johannes said he realized he was meant to be as he originally created it & allowed it to be put on this album. Many dismiss it because it's not heavy. Would love your take on it. I always get the mental image of someone, sitting alone in a room, looking over a photo album, whether its an album of family photos, memories of a previous romantic relationship, or the gallery of a friend that they fell out with, and looking over each individual photo, having a moment of recollection, but removing it from the album, and with a pained look on their face, they walk over to a garbage can, throw the photos in, douse it in gas, and burn it all away, unable to watch the flames consume whatever remained. It's heartbreaking, but also cathartic.

I wholeheartedly want to thank you for introducing Sleep Token to me. This was the song I first heard from them, this video. As faith would have it, the following two years became the worst of my life, testing every bit of strenght I had in me. Sleep Token ended up being the one band that held my hand so to speak, when I was ready to give up for good. Their music was like a shoulder to cry on and slowly heal. In a way this reaction video was perfectly placed and offered protection against what was yet to come. Thank you. Worship. 🖤

Emotion is why music is such a huge part of my life. Yes, I love all types of music for all different reasons, but the fact that music can make me feel those kinds of things is why I truly love it. This is a beautiful song, and Sleep Token is a great group.

I absolutely agree with everything you've said. This band is "something else". I cried the first time I heard it, and almost everytime I listen. No shame in it. It's strange I've been saying a lot of the same things you've said...and I hope the "mystery" remains.

We all come at music from our own place, and that place changes from day to day, that emotional state changes from day to day. There are songs which I first heard in the middle of divorce depression, and they rocked me to my core. Objectively, now I can listen to them and they aren't all-time great songs. In my heart, though, they are. It's so easy to remember that pain, and I truly FEEL those songs' impact on me in a visceral way, even years later. There no accounting for tastes, there's no accounting for situations. You're brave for putting this out there, but also, thank you for trusting your audience with something so raw. Thumbs way up for Chase Carneson.

Sleep Token is special, man. Its hard to find true originality in heavy music right now, but this band is making by far some of the best, and most interestingly original music. They deserve so much more respect and recognition.

Hey Chase, before I watch this video, I just want to say how much I enjoy and appreciate your reaction videos to Sleep Token's songs. I saw your Calcutta video a few months ago and now I find myself always looking for a new video of yours. Sure it's fine to watch someone just headbang and vibe to a first listen, but your "reaction," or better-described analysis is very fitting. You notice all of the details and intricacies that Sleep Token intentionally places in their writing to convey certain emotions and transitions, to and from. If you can't tell, Sleep Token has been my favorite band for a few years now and it is great to see someone who really appreciates the musicianship behind all of this. Please continue to breakdown Sleep Token's discography, it is a pleasure to tune in for. Cheers and WORSHIP.

YO when I saw your face change at that opening where it just for a second sounds like Jaws I got so excited-I’ve been listening to Sleep Token nonstop this past week and I ended up catching that too. I was hoping I’d find someone who knows a bit more about music than I do who could confirm what I was hearing, and that ended up being you. Anyway, thanks for these reaction videos. All of your ST ones I’ve watched so far have reflected back to me my own experience with them and that’s one of the best parts of falling in love with pieces of art; when you can share the same deep emotional experience with other people. Great stuff ❣️

thank you for sharing this beautiful emotional song with us. for me it is the highest quality for a musical piece, if it can touch me emotionally. the singer has a very good voice and really sings his heart out. the pianoplay is beautiful, pedals down, floating chords and tones. very emotional. I like that. have a great day.
