"Does this show get weirder?" Astronomically more...

And mostly in a good way 😁
The food is kept in stasis like Lister was in the first episode to keep them fresh. Red Dwarf is a mining ship which brings minerals and resources from planets and moons back to Earth, so obviously the journeys will take a long time and there needs to be a good supply of food for the crew.

ahh okay! Thanks! That makes sense :)
Clare Grogan lead singer of one my favourite bands of the 80s Altered Images. The talking loo is the funniest that talks through red dwarf

Part of the checklist was "4691 irradiated haggis", not eradicated, basically it's a form of sterilisation to increase shelf-life... As for why he would get fresh cream, the ship is vast & they do have stasis fields I just assume anything fresh has been kept in one of those in the hold of the ship.

Freeze dried whole milk or milk fat and some hydration and air... you get yourself a cream lol

@@liamloxley1222 It's never actually clarified. Could be either. Radiation is actually used to sterilise goods and the ship received a massive dose of radiation lol. It works though.

The Red Dwarf used to serve as an interstellar ship when it was younger, so it has stasis fields for years of travel between planets. Later it was used as an low end mining ship in the solar system.

Of course, the cream may be from dog's milk.
"Does this show get weirder?" - aww, that is adorable
The Red Dwarf Outro is the one people will like. I want to lie shipwrecked and comatose, Drinking fresh mango juice.

"Does this show get weirder?" We could debate funny or drama but it definitely maintains high levels of weird.😂
The intro actually changes from series 3 onwards to a faster-paced version of the theme tune, also a little fun fact, the theme tune was composed by Howard Goodall who also composed the music for Blackadder and Mr Bean (another show worth checking out!) Also, in answer to your question does this show get weirder?, compared to how weirder Red Dwarf does get, a talking toilet is pretty normal!😄😄😄
Love red dwarf, it was actually written as an idea on the back of a beer mat in a pub after a few beers, best way to write off the wall space comedy
I freely admit, I sing the little fishy song whenever I put fish and chips in the oven. As for the food situation in general, the ship is five miles long, three miles wide, and most of its space is used for cargo. There's probably powdered milk in there somewhere. Water would be far more important, but I wouldn't be surprised if ice could be mined from the asteroid.
Red Dwarf was inspired by the film Blade Runner. Blade Runner is set entirely on a run-down Earth but several times they mention how most people are now living "off world". The writers of Red Dwarf decided to design this show based in a light hearted version of what they imagined the that "off world" to be like.

Whether or not Grant Naylor were entirely inspired by Blade Runner, it doesn't really come across on screen except in a few isolated cases, such as Back To Reality and of course series 9 / Back To Earth, which was a direct homage. More so in the novels, admittedly.
"Does this show get weirder?" You can bet your smegging life on it!! Enjoy the ride. 👍😎😁
I read the novel back in 1996 when I was living in Seattle. I was laughing out loud through the entire book! 😂 Then I watched the show on television. Funniest show ever!
The cargo hold has plenty of supplies. I'm sure food storage was more advanced.
In the Series 1 smeg ups, when Craig Charles finishes Lister's jump, he came down with enough force to jolt his own back and he winces and goes "Owwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww"
IIRC Stasis works like Electronically Erasable memory. You apply a burst of power to freeze time, then apply a burst again to unfreeze it. There are ship's supplies that are unfrozen - tinned food, wood, FABRIC 😂 etc, but I'm guessing some supplies are held in stasis.
You ask where Lister gets cream that hasn't gone bad... season 3 has the answer and you won't like it.

oh my.. aha 😅
I think your poll responders might have been referring to the Red Dwarf theme tune from series 3 onwards, which is a more fast paced hard rock rendition compared to the slow and grand rendition of series one and two.
@MeganRuth

ahh okay! I didn't realise it changed. Thanks!
Holo-Rimmer is a simulation of Rimmer, so he acts as Rimmer would have acted, which means he has simulated sleep and is still scared of injury and death.
They were really having fun and they shared it 😂
When people say they like the Red Dwarf intro I think they are referring to the intro in later series which is a lot better than the early one.

The later ones are just edited clips from each series played to a soft rock version of the theme. With this one they actually went to the effort to get Craig Charles in costume as Lister in a spacesuit painting the ship and shot some model shots especially for it. This one wins alone on the basis of how much effort was used to make it.

Hooray for more Red Dwarf!
Oh don't worry, Red Dwarf gets incredibly more weird. Somehow.
Does it....YES
Haggis is a culture-shocking Scottish dish. A Mike Myers character once said it's based on a dare. It's irradiated because of the accident that killed the crew in ep 1. So I thought the joke was that Rimmer is so rigid that he's gotta inventory even the most inedible contents of ship's stores. (Past tense because I see another commenter has given us a different idea on the subject. It would be interesting to do a search and see which interpretation is correct. 🙂)
If you can have powdered milk don't you think they'd have preserved dairy? Plus there's food dispensers with drinks, don't you think they've got creamers for the drinks? Add to that stasis technology we've seen in the show, preservation of short shelf life goods really isn't an issue.
I suspect they got the idea for Red Dwarf from the film Dark Star. A spaceship with a similar bunch of misfits as crew.
thanks Megan.enjoy your evening.

He was also one of the fire creatures in Labyrinth, and sang lead vocals on "Chilly Down". Another vocalist on that song was Charles Augins, who played Queeg in season 2 of Red Dwarf. Megan, DO NOT stop watching Red Dwarf until you've at least got as far as Queeg!
4:23 Compare it to a video phone call date. Not your first choice (unless, say, you expect to want to bail in the middle of the date), but it's one way to interact and/or get to know someone. A date with a holographic (hologrammic?) representation of someone who's dead is also an unlikely first choice. It's just better than no date at all.
Megan Lister is millions of years old thanks to stasis, they could keep cream fresh :)
2:04 Mm, I would have to say yes. 😅
Yes this show will weirder and weird you out
Have you watched "an idiot abroad", you most definitely won't be disappointed, the main star (Karl Pilkington) is a comic genius without even trying, keep up the good work 👌
That is not a cigarette.
I'm still trying to lose weight around my waistline. I certainly don't want any more lumps. So, no to the breasts. 😂
7:10 It's set in the future. If they have the technology to freeze people (which they have, humans tend to expire, but he Lister wasin stasis for 3 million years, and didn'tage at all while im stasis); i don't think it's too much of a stretch 9f the imagination that they could store/freeze etc food supplies also for these long space journeys also.

Ah, but if medical science removes the threat of cancer in the future, or non-carcinogenic tobacco is created then there would probably be a big increase in popularity for smoking. People would look back at now and be glad they didn't live here! Also smoking is far more popular in the UK today than in the US and Canada. It's not demonised to the same extent and is still seen as normal (but really unhealthy). Different cultures!

Hi Megan Love your reactions and can't wait to watch this I am wondering if you would ever consider a side channel dedicated to promoting your OF content? You could do outfit try-ons, yoga pose challenges, shower with me vlogs etc This would no-doubt bring in lots of views and engagement here on KZread, as well as help promote your OF content Surely that is a win-win and makes good business sense?
