Sounding more “mature” makes total sense. By the time you get to their latest album, their sound becomes the epitome of the word.

Their evolution is amazing. I have to say, being a fan of this band since '94 I've evolved alongside their music. The I connection I, and others (I believe) to the music I think is what's genius about it. Because everything they do evolves naturally, riffs and structures, flow like nature. Also, the vagueness and undocumented lyrics (at least for a long time they didn't print the lyrics), which for me let me form in my mind my own understanding of some mysterious pronunciations Maynard uses. Just amazing works of art their songs are.

Isn't it so great! I remember getting to this album when I first started listening to Tool and thinking that's it, this is mine, this is where I set my heart. At that point this was their latest album so I was eagerly awaiting their next album. I had to wait a while but I was more than grateful for Salival when I got it! lol Lateralus comes after this 5 years later, and it was well worth the wait.

This album was basically my #1 listened to album when I was 15. The feelings I get from this music are priceless. I recall having just gotten my license and car and I used to drive my buddies to school. One day, I got this album from my brother and we were all blown away by this album and it played my car for probably a year straight

If you ever get to see them in concert this song is incredible live. They always do some extended improv and build the anticipation before the “I’ll keep digging” drop so when it hits it’s a massive Toolgasm.

Oh shit ok, the hype is real! I’m excited! And I know pausing is very much not ideal, but it’s one of the only way to justify allowing it on KZread legally under the fair use laws. I do add the songs to a playlist after I react to them and listen to them on my own time- I’ll do rankings of songs on each album a few weeks after I finish it and have heard them multiples times :)

@@urbanshamanproductions9092 Its all good. I see people pause way less and get away with it but its not bad and your input is solid. Tool is good for just body language and facial expression in between pauses. I dunno I have listened to them since I was a kid, and when I ever figured out the lyrics and what they meant, in some cases decades later, I appreciated them even more. I love their latest album, some of their best work!

The megaphone, IMO, is Maynard singing from the rational, somewhat detached, self...and then taking it away for the chorus (and other times) is when emotion and desire come to the forefront. One is the way one wants to present themselves...from a distance, and the other shows themselves as they are, behind the curtain.
