Paul was no slouch. Let’s just say that when Justin took over the band didn’t miss a bass line. To think Justin almost didn’t take the gig, he had to be convinced to audition for the boys snd obviously got the job 😬

So true. Paul damour was great for opiate and undertow but justin really pushed the band into some more proggy and experimental elements. It was along time before i realised alot of the cool sojnd engineering stuff that adds atmosphere is actually justin a d his crazy effects pedals.

I mentioned in the comments to another one of your reactions that the "Aenima" album is where Tool really comes into their own. You've experienced "larval" Tool, now you are starting on the butterfly forms :D This album contains my oldest "favorite" Tool song (though basically my favorite is the one I've just played - you'll understand that sentiment soon), the stunning masterpiece which is "Pushit". Both the album version you'll soon get to, and the live version on the album "Salival" are beyond perfect. Enjoy something that just gets better and better the more and more often you listen. Experiences like Tool are rare in life, so savor it. Love your reactions - super genuine.

I’m very much enjoying these Tool song reaction vids you’re doing. Immensely. It’s almost like rediscovering them again along with you. It’s beautiful to see. Listening to these songs again makes me realize how much of an influence Joni Mitchell really was to MJK. He’s cited her as an influence many times in various interviews.... and I can definitely hear it now. (Odd how I didn’t pick up on that before.) The way he chooses how to sing and utilize his vocals to the certain rhythms. The way the same rhythms brings out his song writing on how he feels inside. It’s brilliant. And a revelation.

This is one of my favorite tool songs. I use to crank this on an old incredible car stereo and get thumbs up all over place. 4.25" mb quart in dash. 8" mb quart doors. 12" sealed sub Audio control preamp. Fosfate 650 watt 6 channel amp. This song would rock so hard with the heavy bass. Man, I miss that car stereo Jumbo Optima yellow top deep cycle battery. 12cd changer in trunk,125w alternator in an '88 Saab 900T until a blown head gasket, cracked cylinder ended all the fun after 15 years. So many fond memories of rocking out to Tool. Cheers

That little bridge part starting at 8:18 in your video is one of my favorite sections of any Tool song. Danny’s drumming is so tasteful there. Then it picks up in intensity and drops back down to a new beat that’s equally tasty and the pocket that Maynard’s vocals fit in is perfect.

The surround vocal you hear is one of the many amazing aspects of their mixing. It’s like at the back of your head not stereo or in front like most typical vocals. Maynard is an instrument equal to the others. If you catch more live performances he starts setting up back stage next to Danny. :)

Personally, when I was younger I enjoyed their older stuff but as I aged I seemed to evolve with them and every album hit well at the time of it's release. So I'm excited to see the rest of this because these days I tend to listen to this album and their newer ones. Thanks for reacting!

Tool reaction videos are definitely my guilty pleasure.... And I've seen a lot....but yours so far, are the best by a mile. You have a really good ear and a keen taste for nuance, even on first listen. It's quite fun to rediscover all this music with you. Aenima is definitely my favorite Tool album, followed closely by Lateralus. But the overall texture and sound of Aenima is just so unique and interesting....and stands up to repeat listens. I also find the riffs and such quite compelling. Fear Innoculum seems to be trying way WAY too hard to reach for odd timing, etc. Aenima has non 4/4 rhythms for sure...but they always _always_ sound natural and effortless. Can't say the same for the last album....sadly. I also love the mix of dead seriousness.....and humor on this album. Honestly they just nailed it on every level with this record. It's kinda perfect. Anyway....glad I found you. Subbed right away!
