Razors Genesys LE Aggressive Inline Skates // First Impressions

Спорт

I never thought I'd get a chance to try these skates, but Razors brought back the Genesys for a limited edition. They first came out at the Murda in 2002 and have been around for over a decade as the Genesys. Known for big foot bladers and people looking for a solid skate on a budget, I couldn't wait to give them a try.

    I honestly think these skates are perfect for wide 13. For me personally, these feel better than other skate. The forward lean feels aggressive and lets me crouch better. (6'4 240lbs)

    I still have my Genesys LEs from 2006 and the only thing that I have had to change on them are the shock absorbers and wheels. They came with super high Jug liners and are probably some of the toughest skates ever sold. I could probably still skate them for another two years without changing anything but the wheels. Currently skating Shift 2s and much prefer them and the speed of the flat wheel setup and massive soulplate space. Tiny shock absorbers, though.

    I understand your love of flat boots with shock absorbers, but since getting a pair of Footprint Game Changers insoles, I can tell you shock absorbers are not a must. These insoles can give you all the shock absorption you need. I regularly land from about 10ft and it never hurts. It is a nice soft cushiony landing. I ride M12s with Sola Frames, by the way.

    I think it's important to note that you are in the Goldilocks boot shell for this skate, and that the other shell sizes are proportionally wider/bulkier. Why is this? Well, initially, the Genesys had an 8-9 shell, and then a 10-12 shell, which was absolutely massive for size 10 and 10.5 feet. The Genesys are, as you put it, "spacious", even when the shell is a perfect size for your foot... now imagine them being two whole sizes too big as well! After a couple years Razors finally added the shell you have now, a 10-10.5, but still using the 8-9 soulplate. Basically this new shell is just the 8-9 shell with the toe and heel bumped out a bit, but no real change in width. Thus, this shell is proportionally narrower than the other sizes.

    I always have a problem with fit in skates. I'm a size 9 shoe. 8.5 in some. On a pair of toe cut razors cult or ssm I could go down to a size 7 boot. I'm wondering if I can find an aeon that fits well.

  • @aldolega

    @aldolega

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@kevincollins8620 the 41-42 Aeon would probably work fine with a regular-thickness liner (not a thin downsizing liner). It sounds like the 39-40 Aeon would be too small, even with a thin liner. It's hard to cram into Aeons because the shell material is so rigid, and the toebox is very snug height-wise.

    I had the Shimas size 12 and this explains the fit. It was my least favorite skate I owned and I had to do a lot of customizing on the fit. Its not like other skates, on these there is extra room in the entire shell of the skate on the sides and tops of the foot. And hitting royals and topsides when you foot has room to move around in the skate just doesnt feel solid.

    I haven't read through all the comments but another reason for the two laces is so you can have two different color laces which can add a personal tough to the look. Or just go with one set as well.

    I run a single lace in my gens. I go in the inner loop and out the outer loop. I’m not a fan of the 2 lace thing. I recommend trying this method. It holds your foot really well while keeping the look of having 2 laces without he headache of 2 laces.

    @@kevinfeyko3509 I do run longer laces. My gens are older and the original laces are long gone. It doesn’t take as long of laces as you would think tough. Realistically just a few inches longer than normal given you’re kinda lacing it in a more traditional way. Think the top lace looks on ufs thrones. Kinda like that.

    Had the Shimas. They used to make the Night UHMW sole plates for the Genesys. . Would be cool to see if you can make a homemade sole plate for these. If you drill some holes in the shock absorber on these, it works a lot better, also sanded the shock absorber down some it was too high. I drilled holes in the boots and frames to make them lighter. There is a channel on youtube called Frankenboots where he customized skates for pros like Pat Lennan, a lot of good ideas to make a custom skate. You can also get some pliers and remove the extra interior metal eyelets on the lace holes so only the outer lace hole line is showing. I ended up painting the skate black tho so the eyelets didnt show. That was the only pair of Razors skate I owned, and my least favorite skate due to the fit of the shell. I like a skate the fits tight on the top and sides of the foot, and this skate for me always had a little extra room on the sides. On me tho because I bought a size 12 when I can fit in a size 11 skate. Hence why I did all the customizing because it was a little too big. If your gonna purchase the Genesys, try them on because if they are oversized its not like a roces where the skate is slim on the top and sides, the entire shell is a little too big.

    I downsized into these with 2nd skins and it was awful. Way too much room made the skate very sloppy to the point where the whole skate was bending under my foot (disclosure: I'm a heavy guy). That said, I'm going to try them with skinny boys (they don't fit with intuitions) which have more padding around the ankle.

    I would enjoy better audio but I don't think it's completely necessary. For the style and volume of content that Law is producing, having a reliable and simple camera setup that lets him make the most of his time is more important than small improvements in audio or picture quality. The backup recording on the Rode Go 2 is very nice but IMO the Go's are still too big/heavy to use while skating. They weigh your collar down and bounce and flip over when jumping around. I could see them working ok on a dressier shirt with a front pocket to clip them inside and stiffer fabric that will hold them in place. I went for the PicoMic system, and although I'm yet to use it for skating stuff, the mics are so tiny and light that you forget they're even there.
