Several Gimnazija Kranj orchestra fans have noticed that the lead clarinetist Nadja Drakslar is not in the Christmas concert this year. She has performed beautifully, I believe, in every concert since 2003! Most fans would agree her most brilliant performance was Mozart’s Clarinet concerto in A major during the 2010 concert. Over a million and a half viewers have listened to this performance on KZread. For those of you who have missed Nadja I am happy to report that her absence is because her third child is due to arrive any day now! So I think that means that in 16 years or so concert producer and director Primož Zevnik and Maestro Nejc Bečan will have three more brilliant musicians in the Gimnazija Kranj orchestra.

M Don Frampton. Listening to this orchestra for the fourth time. play Ravel's D & C , which is quite a challenging piece for both players and conductor. I found myself reminded of the "discovery" of the Venezuelan Youth Orchestra under Dudamel - there are similarities....I again realized the players were actually enjoying what they were doing. When you enjoy what you are doing - whatever it is - the chances are you do it well - and will try and do it even better. This orchsra knew they were playing well. The fact that the exuberance of youth ran right through the orchestra, gently controlled by the conductor ...... speaks for itself. My problem now is to find out just where I can buy CDs Youth Orchestras like this do not just happen..as an amateur musicologist in South West England, I would like to know more.... thank you To understand and learn a little more of the history of Ravel's ballet - D & C I commend a visit here.... www.khanacademy.org/humanities/music/music-masterpieces-old-new/maurice-ravel-music/v/ravel-suite2

Saludos.

@@danakaleb4882 nice job digging this comment from years ago. You were probably the kid that constantly was told in school that you had poor reading comprehension, I'm guessing. TRY to figure out why I said what I said. PS - Not making fun of any "blind person". No one is blind, in fact. If you still can't, and you tried, then come back to me here and I'll gladly spell it out.

@@PRicanGeek in fact Nadja Drakslar is legally blind. That’s a fact. 10% vision left is blind by any definition. I should know. I’m ophthalmologist. My reading comprehension in English is excellent (I was always told so).

@@danakaleb4882 Well ill be... okay, looks like I am the one that didn't have all the info. I simply thought she had a quirk when she performed. If she's reading a music sheet, it never occurred to me that there was any blindness. Maybe needed stronger corrective lenses (as I do when I used to perform and had to lean in to read). But blindness? News to me. I apologize, never occurred to me.

@@PRicanGeek Yes, glasses won’t help in her case. The movements she makes is because she needs to see the music sheets and conductor while playing. She made her case in Scheherazade where she explained her problem. Take care and all good!
