When a concert theme is American music Copeland must be performed! Appalachian Spring is a wonderful choice. In fact it won the Pulitzer prize for music in 1942! It has been described as “one of the most inspiring and symbolic works of the century.” In one sense it takes courage to perform such a master piece. So how did Maestro Bečan and the Gimnazija Kranj orchestra do? SUPERB!! Their performance was so incredibly beautiful! Not only was the performance flawless but these wonderful musicians played with a passion and joy that would have brought tears to the great composers eyes. A huge bonus to these concerts is the superb filming of the orchestra. No one in the business does this better than producer/director Mr. Zevnikov.

I wanted to love this because as an American I adore orchestras from other countries playing music of our composers, and even though their performance of An American in Paris was imperfect, I still thoroughly enjoyed it. I just couldn't for this piece. Too many performance errors and I assume the conductor is the one who tweaked the arrangement, taking out large (and sometimes very small) portions of the orchestral suite. For anyone familiar with the work, it confuses your expectations and completely alters the flow, making it feel rushed and hastily put together. Plus, shortening the final movement, which is one of the most beautiful compositions ever written, when it's not that long to begin with is unforgivable. Dang...

They aren't at all together at 13:00 with some quite rough bits at around 13:20/30. Their performance of the "Pines of Rome" is much better than this.

She has a vision disability which is why she moves close to the music frequently - glasses can’t help her. I’ll be watching for your apology🙂

Such a shame that one player got horribly lost, but got picked up by the more experienced in the orchestra. I heard Slatkins version first, so I'm afraid that this performance was marred by that.

Well... What a terrible shame for you. From now on, then, just listen to Slatkin's carefully edited, engineered, and sterilized studio version. You will be Much happier. But I'm sure that, if you Try Reeeally hard, you may be able to find the tiniest of mistakes even in Their version. 🙄🤣
