No doubt about Roger Taylor's talents, he has the range, pitch and ability to be a lead vocalist but when you have arguably the greatest rock front man in music as the lead singer in your band, it's tough. Roger is like the vocal secret weapon of Queen!! All of them can sing and Brian May can shred with the best of them!! After seeing this performance and others ,it's very hard to deny Freddie Mercury's talents as a front man!! He commands the stage and just steamroller the crowd with his talents!! The entire band as a matter of fact is just a force of nature!!

"Somebody To Love" from Cable Guy was a Jefferson Airplane song from the 60s. The guitarist is Brian May. You can call him Sir Brian now because he was just knighted. Queen wouldn't be Queen without any of the members. Every single member contributed not only their musical skills, but they wrote songs too. Brian May wrote "Fat Bottom Girls" and "We Will Rock You". John Deacon wrote "You're My Best Friend" and "Spread Your Wings". Roger Taylor wrote "Radio Ga Ga" and "Calling All Girls". Freddie was the most prolific writer, but it was the chemistry between the members of the band that made Queen.

Brian May was absolutely crucial to the band's success because it was his innovations of multi-layered guitar harmonies and heaviness with one of the most unique guitar tones in Rock that helped give Queen their most signature sound. Brian is insanely influential to the world of guitar. Had it been some other more casual and less experimental guitarist, Queen wouldn't have gotten past their first few albums because those albums were heavily guitar focused and helped to pioneer loads of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal to come.

We also have to give John Deacon some props for enhancing Brian's unique sound by creating the Deacy Amp, which partnered with Brian's homemade Red Special Guitar, allowed for some truly unique "orchestral" type sounds . Just think, TWO of the most important pieces of Queen's equipment were homemade and utterly unique to them alone -- both "cheap" and yet ultimately "priceless" !

Thanks gents. That is probably my favourite Queen live performance. And the bar is set pretty high by their others. I’m surprised you didn’t mention Roger Taylor on the drums. His “second” vocals performance behind Freddie, while playing the drums was fantastic. Did you hear how great his voice was too? Finally, Could Queen be Queen without Brian? Maybe if Freddie was still around and they could find another guitarist who could re-create his sound well enough. After all Queen is still Queen without Freddie, when fronted by the astonishingly good Adam Lambert. Not the same Queen but I’d pay to hear those songs played and sung by the remaining guys and Adam. One day they’ll all be gone, so let’s enjoy them while we can.

Brian is not just one of the greatest guitarists - he also built his guitar with his father when he was in his teens - but he is also a great composer not just a songwriter so I think it’s hard to think of Queen without him. And he has written a lot of the songs too.

When you react to their Live Aid set, look for the video that is 22min30+seconds long. This starts with them being introduced by a comedy duo and ends with Freddie saying "good night" and everything in-between. There are slightly shorter versions, but at least one of them has been sliced to pieces.

Outstanding performance!! I love this song. Queen's lead guitar player is Sir Dr. Brian May, CBE, PhD. He holds a doctorate in Astrophysics and built his guitar (he still uses it almost exclusively) with his dad when he was a teen, with junk they had laying around the house. The members of this band are all college graduates. The face on the bass drum is Roger Taylor, the drummer. His kit is so big that most of the time you cannot see him. Freddie felt that the drum needed to have Roger's face on it so the audience could see who was hiding back there. To answer your question, NO, there would be no Queen without Brian May because Brian had a band called Smile that he formed with his friend Tim Staffell. When they needed a drummer, Brian advertised and Roger ended up as the drummer of Smile. That band landed a recording contract and cut a single but due to poor management, it went nowhere. Later, Staffell left the band and moved on in another direction. Freddie was a friend of Staffell and had a little business with Roger. Freddie really liked the band and when Staffell quit, Freddie asked to be the singer and to join the band. At that time, Freddie had not honed his vocals yet but he landed a position in the band on his piano skills. Roger and Brian weren't all that concerned about the vocals because they both are very good singers and were lead singers in their solo careers. So, all they needed now was a bass player (Staffell played bass and was the lead singer of Smile). They tried several bass players before finding John Deacon who seemed to be the perfect fit for the band. They cut a demo tape and when Freddie heard his vocals and hated them so he kept recording until he was happy with the way he sounded. They then changed the name of the band to Queen, which was Freddie's idea. He thought it was edgy and regal so finally Brian and Roger agreed. It was Freddie who joined Brian's band in all actuality. You are thinking of a different song. Jefferson Airplane did a song called Somebody To Love also. Grace Slick was their female vocalist. She has one of the most haunting voices I have ever heard. Thank you for your reactions.

These 4 geniuses All were great songwriters and that’s what made them such an amazing band you should do more queen their live performances were out of this world try Hyde Park, 1976 and listen to Freddie bear his soul with you take my breath away. Thanks. By the way, the face on the drum was drawn by Freddie. It’s a picture of Roger Taylor the drummer who people said they could never see because he was behind so many drums. He also has an incredible voice. The brilliant guitarist is Brian May the brilliant bass player is John Deacon.

Ohh calm down ffs, Freddie had a vocal range of 4 octaves, that's nothing special, plenty singers out there with greater ranges. What made Freddies voice so special, was his tone, his natural vibrato and his ability to sing from falsetto to normal and vice versa in a second, Freddie knew how to control his singing voice

Man I cried so much when Freddie passed. He knew his days are numbered and he refused to leave the studio until he collapsed. He wanted to leave behind as much as possible from his singing. I recommend "Mother Love" he sounds defeated and saddened and the last part of the song is sung by Brian May because Freddie was too sick to come back to finish the recording.

Freddy died in...what...1991 I think? I was just starting Junior High, and had recently seen Wayne's World, which had "Bohemian Rhapsody" in it. Junior High was my first experience with sporting events and "We will Rock You" and "We are the Champions" featured every game. Occasionally, Another one Bites the Dust would play too. So since he died that year they played Queen a LOT, and I became a HUGE fan.

Also see Under Pressure and Spread Your Wings and Dragon Attack from this concert. Under Pressure also has Roger's outstanding backing vocals. Freddie's high notes are perfect as well. Brian May made his own guitar with his father when he was a teenager so that's why it has a distinctive sound. Also John Deacon made an amp to give it even more distinctive sounds. All four sang, and each of them wrote at least one No.1 single. Freddie tried a solo album which only sold 100,000 copies - a fraction of what any Queen album sold. As he once said, "I'm not the leader of the band, I'm just the lead singer."

  • @hellsbells8689
    @hellsbells8689 Жыл бұрын

Freddie always said Queen were four equal members. They all bounced off each other. They would each write songs and take them to the other members and fight it out as they changed the words around. There are videos of the making and recording songs. Roger laughs and says something like "he's took my song, changed it and now I don't know what it's about". The camera person asked who changed it and Roger, with his cheeky grins says "that naughty Freddie" and then he laughs. They had their own sound and knew what makes a great song, even if they had to bicker with each other at times, they were professionals and they did their job, make Queen sound amazing. Each of them wrote number 1 hit records. They all play multiple instruments and they worked bloody hard to create their sound. Nothing but perfection would do. Freddie wrote Somebody To Love as an homage to Ms Aretha Franklin because he was such an admirer of hers and the gospel sound. It has been my favourite song of all time since its release 40+ years ago. Freddie also said it is a much better song than Bohemian Rhapsody but not everyone agrees with Fred and myself.

Omg!😄 The other "Somebody Love" is by Grace Slick with the 60's group Jefferson Airplane. You guys should check it out too--it's awesome!🎼💕 By the way, that drawing on the drums is a tribute to their idol John Lennon, who had tragically been assassinated a few months earlier💔💔💔💔 Great reactions, as usual!!!

Freddie was a one-of-a-kind performer... yes, the face on the drum was a portrait of the drummer Roger Taylor, drawn by Freddie... and yes, Brian May was voted the best rock guitarist by Guitar Magazine... and is STILL playing today, 50+ years later... check out his solo catalogue of songs, absolutely stellar... blessings. P.S. Just remembered another question you asked... did Freddie play the guitar?? Yes, the only song he ever played the guitar in public was "Crazy Little Thing Called Love"... but he did compose many songs on the guitar...

Next Queen reaction if you haven't done it already is Live Aid Fund Raiser concert July 13, 1985 As for the song you keep thinking of Somebody to Love, it was by Jefferson Airplane in 1967. They did this song at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival in Northern CA. It was the first music festival of it's kind, 3 days. It was also 2 years and 2 months BEFORE Woodstock!

For me I think Queen and Freddie is the greatest, Freddie can sing any genre of music which why Queen can't be known as one genre. they have a bit of everything in their catalog. I also think Queen are another level when you hear or see them Live. I love Another one bites the dust Live at Wembley or Dragon Attack Live at Montreal

Some of my best memories is while listening to this band. It hits a bit hard especially since the uncle who showed me queen is in the hospital right now. I remember being e sitting next to my uncle on his bed at my grandparents hiuse listening to the single bohemian rhapsody and the b side was we are the champions. Alot of my good memories revolve around good music.chilling with mom at home listening to Janis or in her 68 bsracuda fastback jamming to van halen panama, watching my dad and his friends jammin during weekends on songs like eagles,Joe walsh, Molly hatchet, alot of southern rock. Dad was pretty decent on the drums and these were all work buddies.just some friends shoot in the shit playing some beloved songs while chilling with the families on a weekend. Music and good memories go hand in hand with my life it seems.

Magnificent Freddie Mercury, vocalist supreme, pianist extraordinaire - plus the other three Queen legendary musicians, Roger Taylor, his percussions and his vocals also, yes and Brian May's guitar plus John Deacon (Deaky)'s bass, undergirding it all --- It takes all four of then to be fabulous Queen. Thanks guys...it was fun watching with you.

Queen is a British rock band that was formed in 1970 and was comprised of: Freddie Mercury - Lead vocals and piano Roger Taylor - Drummer and vocals Brian May - Lead guitar and vocals John Deacon - Bass guitar Yes, that is Roger's face on the drum. Everyone kept complaining that they couldn't see Roger sitting behind all those drums so he had his face painted on the bass drum. BTW - Did you notice that when Freddie got up to start the chorus of "Find me somebody to love", Brian (the lead guitarist) headed to the back of the stage. Evidently, he had a problem with his guitar. It wasn't a broken string because, in that situation, he would have just switched to the backup guitar. I suspect he needed to retune possibly because the possibly the next segment needed to be at a different pitch or maybe a string was out of tune (Brian is a bit of a perfectionist) Anyway, Freddie did notice Brian went to the back of the stage to deal with an issue, so he simply entertained the audience to give Brian the time he needed. Whether John and Roger noticed that Brian had a problem or not didn't matter because the group was so tight they could follow along with Freddie no matter what he did without missing a beat. Then you notice Freddie looks back toward Brian and sees he is ready and Freddie begins the chorus. That is total professionalism.

Freddie is the GOAT. It wasn't just Brian May that helped with making Queen, the drummer Roger Taylor and bass Player John Deacon were equally important. In ths performance Roger Taylor was instrumental as his higher backing vocals complimented Freddie as they both worked so well with each other. To me they are they greatest band ever due to their versatility and when they played live, nobody was on their level as you didn't just go to see 4 people perform like you did with The Beatles whereas with Queen you got a whole show with lights etc. as Freddie was very hands on with what he wanted for their live performances. Queen simply were the best there was and ever will be.
