Ghost has a backstory, characters etc. It's all tounge-in-cheek and made for fun. They're supposed to be a Satanic group, the lead singer is supposed to be the anti-pope, and the band members are just known as "ghouls" who wear masks. The actual musician line-up changes, but the lead singer (who is also the writer and main dude) stays the same. His character changes over time, so for each new album he'd be a different "anti-pope" and the style of the music will change. All their songs are about Satan, a lot of them sound like Christian rock, their older stuff was more metal. It's all for fun, nothing to take too seriously :) They even have story videos on their main channel, they're pretty funny too.

I remember when this album came out, i listened to this song and said "holy shit, they just made an evangelical protestant song about satan". And some idiot on the internet tried to pick a fight with me online saying that my take was bullshit. When this video came out i felt so vindicated. It feels good to be right. This "he" person is Satan =D

I love Ghost. I feel like the band's "backstory" makes a ton of sense as a satanic cult type thing, because what's gonna get more followers? Creepy grotesqueries or some glitz 'n glamor? Clever shit right there. Good reaction as always y'all.

Following Ghost songs are killer Cirice Faith Square Hammer Dance Macabre Rats Year Zero Ritual Take your pick. They make some pretty catchy tunes. Their live shows are wild.

He says it early in the song perhaps you missed it but. The lyric is were guided by the morning star. And the "morning star" which is a reference to Lucifer the devil. A better song for you to listen to to help you to understand what we're really about, would be. Ritual, followed up by "Year Zero", I would also check out "Mummy Dust", and Ghuleh.

You guys have to do Cirice and Year Zero by Ghost!

Ghost takes a twisted theme, and puts a positive sound to it. My favorite thing about them! So chilling

Its not really about Satan. This song was written for the band friend who committed a suicide for Satan and about lead singers brother who passed away before Ghost became popular

I also see the Jim Jones aspect of the song. Seeing as he led people like that and he was worshipped and they all committed suicide because he said they needed to, and he is wearing the aviator sunglasses like Jim Jones used to always wear, plus the hairstyle is similar. To me it has a lot of different meanings not just an ode to Satan.

Ghost is bad ass. You HAVE to watch Cirice, Faith, & Square Hammer

Ghost are great. They have this whole shtic with the lead singer Tobias Forge performing and singing from the perspective of a satanic priest, pope or cardinal and play some really unique tunes. This is one of their most unusual songs, as it, as the two pointed out, parodies christian rock music, normally they go into a more heavy, but old school and synthesizer-infused direction. Quite interesting. I've been to one of their concerts and I must say, I don't think I have seen a light show greater than their's.

He didn’t paint the inside of his mouth, it’s a mask. Also, because I’m commenting halfway through the video: it’s a play in Christian worship music but about Satan.

GHOST is hands down the one band that’s made me believe in metal being fun and creative again..🖤🖤 Check out literally anything by them! The songs about Satan, the band is a play on the Catholic Church and it’s absurdity. It’s fire man

Ghost is one of my favorite bands. I love the mythology they've built. I was raised in a religious home, but it didn't really stick. Seeing Ghost play this live, a few years ago was very close to a religious experience, though. Maybe I should be concerned. But then again, maybe not. Carry on, guys!

Cirice, you deeeeeeefinitely have to give that a listen, and ABSOLUTELY give "Call me little sunshine a listen (especially the Jimmy Kimmel show performance) absolutely stunning. I listen to every genre, this stuff is amazing.

i love this band. they are super into their fans too. and seeing them live? its amazing, tyhe way he brings the crowd into the music.

I saw Ghost play 2 years ago with Bad Wolves, STP, Sevendust and Five Finger Death Punch headlining. It was a great show.

The lyrics to this song were written after Selim Lemouchi of the band The Devil's Blood committed suicide. That band is also definitely worth checking out, with songs like 'She', 'I'll be your ghost' and 'Christ or cocaine'.

Also it's a play on tony alaimo you even see a split second flash of him in the video.

Don’t know a lot of Ghost songs but I’ve heard a few on the radio. Square Hammer sounds to me like Duran Duran attempting a rock/ metal song... which is not a criticism because I ❤️ Duran Duran. It’s catchy!
