I'm sorry. Seriously. ... I tried to get that for the video and it just didn't work out. When I originally did this experiment I was really new to this pedal, and it was almost a year ago. This video wasn't really planned; I was recording one of the other dream 65 videos I did and I kind of went on this tear and decided the video was too long so I separated this out to just post later. ... So when I sat down to try to figure out what I did to make it sound like wet farts, I couldn't quite get it to do it. I was trying to use what I thought was the preset I saved when I did it the first time (the preset workflow in UA is horrible), and I recorded an A/b test and it just didn't do the same thing it did way back when I did it the first time. Maybe it was a different guitar or different something, or maybe it wasn't the right preset. ... I could have started the whole experiment again (without using that preset) But it was a long process and I just didn't have time for it right now with the holidays and stuff, and my day job lol... ... And then, super frustratingly, I was playing this thing on my armchair or something afterward and it started making the fart sounds again and I was like "what!?!"... When it happens again I will stop what I'm doing and record it, Post it, and I will share the link with you here in this comments thread. ... Or, and I have to seriously consider this possibility... I've been using real amps and realistic modelers long enough now that the speaker distortion doesn't bother me anymore. I wish there was a way to test that.

This is what people do not understand and most don’t not want to understand. 99% of your “tone” IS the speaker. The amp part and guitar parts and everything else is colored through that lens. By changing the IR you can get it to sound like a Vox or something else entirely and that is based purely on the speaker emulation. If you’re having trouble dialing it in (like I was at first) it’s because you fundamentally do not understand speakers. And how you cannot get more volume out of an amp without it distorting there is a balance to be had.

I recently bought a Dream 65 used for a very good price. I’ve had it three weeks and now I’m going to sell it and get the Boss IR-2. You’re so right. It’s very accurate to a 65 reverb but a 65 reverb cranked doesn’t sound good. It has an incredible spring reverb but I don’t use much reverb. Also it doesn’t have an effects loop. I may even sell my pedals and just get a Fender Mustang of Boss Katana. I’m tired of fiddling with things.

This is the correct commentary on these pedals. I’m using the UA Dream, and it’s so accurate to a real deluxe reverb that it reminds me of all the reasons why I don’t like Deluxe Reverbs. That's so interesting, One of the first things I did when I got this thing and realized what the secret emulations were (samples from Ox land), I was in contact with UA support trying to figure out how to get other ox speaker emulations on board. When that was impossible, I asked him if I needed to plug a real amp into an ox box in order to use it for the speaker emulations (You do). ... So when I saw that ox stomp produce 10 months later I was like, "Heeeeeeeeeyyyyy" 😂 ... Thanks so much for the comment, this is actually a lot of work and it's not so easy to keep going when you're not sure if anybody gets any value out of it. I appreciate it.

The truth is, either one is going to sound great It's just a matter of knowing how to dial it in. This little rant is really about me trying to dial in my dream pedal as if it were a Helix model, the dream pedal will definitely do the sparkle thing that you want. I actually did a video recently where I show it my exact settings to get my three worship tones, and one of them is exactly "scooped and sparkly"

@@jash500 also, I think one thing you'll find with the dream pedal that might also be true of the iridium, those little units are so much better for playing at home, the things it's right on the arm of your chair, It fits in a lot of guitar cases, there's a lot that I love about that pedal outside of the context of playing for church. Gotta be honest here. This video is super click baity and there is no substance to back up any of these claims. You are stating you are getting "wet farty" sounds out of this thing, yet no context of this happening? So you want to capture the greatness of an amp, without capturing any of the realistic qualities of the amp; but you fail at both? I am just beyond confused, and honestly I'm disappointed I wasted 5 minutes watching this. I play the both a real princeton from the 60s, and the UA dream, and never once encounter "wet farty" territory, or Dry farty territory. Like what do you mean? We can do better as a guitar community. I think the massive failure happening here is this video being made.

I watched most of this video thinking you have spent so much time and money on amp emulators (which I think are great), when you could have spent $30 and built an DIY attenuator for your amp and used that in church. Solves the sound and volume problem unless I'm missing something here. Not criticism as I love a good pedal experiment as much as the next player.

I didn't buy the dream, it was a gift from a business partner/guitar friend (every year he gets me what he calls my "Christmas bonus", this year he got me a Kemper Toaster 🤯) ... If you separate out my HX effects, since I would need that even if I used my tube amp on stage, I've got less than half the money in amp modelers that I would need to buy an amp that I thought was as good as the model tones I use. ... I have a tube amp, it's one of those mono price Amazon stage right 15 amps that I got used for less than $200. I use at home, and I love it, but when I profiled it with a Kemper so that I can compare it with other profiles and models apples to apples... It doesn't sound good enough to get my tones. But when I practice with it in the room my ear gets tricked by the fact that it's in the room so it sounds better than it would mic'd up in the house. ... I'm not permitted to have stage volume, so I would need something like an ox box to use an amp head that would give a load and also transmit my signal to house digitally without stage volume, which means I really only have 25% of the money in a modelers that I would need to get the same tone to the real amp on stage. ... But most of all... I'm a super nerd and I love tinkering with this stuff.

I actually have another video idea in my mind on this topic... This process taught me something about where tone starts. It doesn't start with the Amp and build around that. It starts with the speaker (or speaker emulation) and build around that. It hit me when the Friedman IR-x came out and in the user literature they mentioned something about selecting an IR to "build your tone around"... It's likely that if I started with a commitment to x or y speaker emulation in the Dream pedal and sculpted the tone around that, then none of them would be unusable for me.
