If you’re considering the amp you should play it live. I don’t think the sound clip is a true representation of the amp. It comes down to how he mic’d it up. I would guess the other two are direct into audio interference.

I use iridium, its awesome! All troubles with tube amps are gone. 😅 I know its not exactly the same, but mire than enough

the Iridium KILLED!!!! Sounds so good. Sounds the way my ears like the most.

Dream is a clear sound, and I think it's natural in mix sound. However, in my opinion, the iridium drive sound is similar to a real amplifier in this short. The two different character, both sounds are great.

I just bought an iridium yesterday… I’d been running a Hughes and Kettner Tubemeister 5 with a Two Notes Torpedo for ages and I liked it but I wanted something smaller - so glad I bought it - it’s incredible. Felt powerful and girthy through my monitors… very amp like. I will be using it from now on

UA has more processed sound to make it clear at the top end frequency. Strymon is closer to real amp.

UA has that interesting top end for sure. They modeled the Vibrato channel vs. the Strymon’s Normal channel. I definitely hear what you’re referring to.

The sims are getting really good…but if you’re wearing in ears, there’s nothing that can replace and amp moving air behind you, that’s for sure.

On the first lick on the Fender Amp what were your settings? Was that just the raw amp or did you have anything plugged into it?

they all sound good. doesnt matter to me if it is tube, solid state or digital.

What are you running the amp sim pedals through? FRFR speaker mic'd, into a guitar cab, DI? What?

I don't want to say that they are not close because the characteristics are all there. It's terribly easy to be 80% similar, easy to be 90%, harder to be 95% and extremely hard to be 97%. These are good sims, but when you are in the room with the real things, you quickly realize how important (and distant) that last 3-5% is.

Totally agree. For me, that last 3-5% was the speaker moving air in the room. I had in-ears in while recording these (JH16v2) and that’s what’s most noticeable. No surprise there, tho. Can’t replicate that amp in a room feel easily.

True enough. With the sim pedals, you always have to plug into something else (PA/Mixer/Powered cab). As far as the comparisons, it’s just the natural gravitation for everyone. However, I do tend to agree with you, honestly. They are all great pieces of gear. It just depends on the application/player.

I think it would have been better to dial the tones in on the amp pedals to match the real amp better, because the mic you choose to mic up the amp has a lot to do with the way the amp is perceived, esspecialy the dream having many different cabinet options on it

More low mids and « body » with real tube amp… but these sims are really amazing .

What channel are you using for the fender deluxe reverb amp? Normal or vibrato channel?

Normal channel on the amp. The Strymon models the normal channel and the Dream models the Vibrato. So, I chose to go for 2/3 being on the normal channel. None of the amps/pedals had internal reverb on. I just added the same reverb for all in post.

Achei o Dream extremamente agudo e brilhante nessa demo, principalmente no preset clean (o que obviamente pode ser contornado com o pré do pedal) e pra mim no vídeo o Iriduim se aproximou mais ao som real do amp.

The Dream and the Iridium sound fantastic. 99% close to the Fender amp. I would still take the real thing instead of the simulators though, if I had the choice.

You should do a blind test in one video and a result in another see how many people guess correctly

All settings for processing were kept the same for each source! Consistency in that respect allows for the differences of each to be on display. I could have definitely made them all sound indistinguishable from one an other, but where’s the fun in that?

That Iridium sounds so boxed in, and contain.

Check out my full length video talking about the differences between the Iridium and Dream 65. A lot of what you’re hearing, in my opinion, is because the Iridium sounds like the Normal channel and the Dream sounds like the Vibrato channel. Different characters, for sure.

Strymon has almost the same sound as the original amp

Fender amp sounds good imo

Yeah for sounds absolutely no tube preamp necessary. BUT to me a real guitar speaker is what you need to play with (inaudible) feedbacks. To me guitar and speaker is one acoustic instrument. FRFR or other PA speakers won’t do it. I would like to better power amps and speakers in the moddeling world. Like the Fender tonemaster amps.

The iridium sounds a bit more compressed and brighter, and the real amp is a bit muddier. Honestly, for recording and performing, the pedal is going to probably a lot more practical, and might end up sounding better because of how clear it is. You could also probably change the settings to lower the high end a bit if you want a sound closer to the original amp.

I will argue also that for 95% of players, who aren't engineers, using a modeler is going to give you a more consistent and better tone (if it's a good one). Depends on the situation, there are pros to both, but generally the practicality will always be very valuable.

Ah ok. I understand now. The first and third sounds are amp simulation pedals (UA Dream 65 & Strymon Iridium). Both were plugged directly into a UA Apollo X4 interface. The second sound is my real amp that’s miced with a Shure SM57 plugged into the Apollo X4.

People who can't tell the difference clearly haven't a clue. With a tube amp it's what you feel along with what you hear.

Did you use the closest cab with sm57 with the dream pedal? I believe it's the red GB30 which uses an sm57

Iridium designed and built in USA. UA designed in USA and built in malaysia.

The problem with comparing a real amp with an amp sim is that the comparison depends entirely on the skill of the person miking the amp and what they are using to mic it, along with what else is in their signal chain, whereas the sims benefit from expertise and rare equipment in highly controlled settings. That being said, in this video, the Dream sounds marginally better than the Iridium, and both sims sound dramatically better than the actual amp.

Agreed. I’m no recording engineer and my mic cabinet/outboard gear and room aren’t the best, so that’s why I rely on sims. Is the real thing better? Yeah, but not if I’m the engineer😂

All 3 would be in collection to record with. Peavy Marshall Messa Boogie JC AMPs Orange and all other Amps should be in one until just like for example Leslies Neo Ventilator, Strymon,Lester K. BOSS ROTOSPHARE STRYMON ROTO,ETC. THEY ALL SOUNDS NICE BUT THE DREAM 65 WOULD BE USED MAINLY WITH MY LES PAUL and with my Rack Effects Roland GP-8and GP16 ,Digitech GSP 21 Both Pro and Legend processors. I got the floor ones too buy the tons. Only one i hated was my Line 6 Firefawk FX. I hated it. SO I SOLD and i bought my GP-8 2/23/2023. I love the older analog multi effects units even the floor ones too

Those headstocks are so fricking ugly.
