I've owned 30+ Randalls since the early 80's. Like Mike said down below, it is 440B stainless.

Some guy on Bladeforums was saying Randall's stainless was "comparable" to 440B but not actually 440B. Hell idk. Thanks

"Closest' I ever got is a Blackjack Halo 14 8 inch in A2 convex, aluminum guard, made by Bark River. It works. Moss green micarta, finger grooves. Sheath is heavier. Very well made. I didn't want to wait the rest of my life. Razor sharp

The Blackjack Halo is a really nice knife in its own right. I've got a blackjack 1-7 & it's okay, definitely not as nice as a Randall though.

I've got a collection of Randall knives, and they've never come inserted in the sheath as collectors like the sheaths not to be broken in.

At one time in early 200's I had 62 Randalls. Sold em all for a modest profit, over a year or two. I still have an unused carving set in stag, complete w/ all docs and purple wrapped carrying case. Wish I would have kept a 1, 2 or 14.

I have recently converted one of my gun cabinets into a knife display case. I think that it looks really nice with some Randall,‘s on it. I once had some picture frames. I had converted into shadow boxes so I could hang my Randall, Made, Knives up. I still have a few of those around. Honestly the whole picture frame idea is the easiest way to display your Randall, Made, Knives. I display the sheaves right beside it. I never put the knife in the sheath. I purchase all my Randall, Made, Knives new.

Bo, started using 440b during the fifties on requested orders. Bo, didn't make it an standard along with 01 till the start of the Vietnam war! I didn't know either like you obvious don't, but 440 steels are a lot older than what you think! And back then it was thought of as a super steel! Most knife companies didn't start putting 440 stainless steel in their options till the sixties! But, Bo was actually one of the first to start using it in the 1950's! Now, you know.

It's one of those knives where it's more function over form, but with a beauty all it's own. I love historic knives. I only wish I could have got some of my grandfather's when he passed. He had some old and beautiful knives.

Wrong! Its 440B that is from Sweden. Secondly NOWHERE ON THEIR WEBSITE OR LITERATURE SAYS ITS FROM PROJECT GEMINI.! A RANDALL now called the Astro flew on Mercury and Gemini. Thirdly Bo Randall explains how and why they used 440B from Sweden, simply put Bo decided that if it was good for Sweedish Bofors cannons it was good enough for Randall knives.

A couple of observations worth noting: The handle on the model 16 sp1 is tapered. When you measured the thickness of the handle (5:55) you didn't appear to notice it and only measured in one spot. A small detail, but the taper is worth noting. (7:37) Finger grooves are standard on the model 16 sp1, they do not cost more.

  • @Biblicalgiants

Nice video. I've been scouring the net looking for info in these knives and not much out there. I've got a 1-7 stainless and just ordered a 25-6 and a 3-7, both in stainless. A lot of people knock RMK stainless, but they've been using it for years and know how to properly heat-treat it and forge it where i would put it head to head with some of the latest whizbang steels, not to mention that they are sexy as hell. Randall knows their stuff!

There is plenty of info on Randall knives. Check out randall made knives .com. This guy doesn't know half of what he's talking about. You can shave with his knife or any Randall, you just have to know how to properly sharpen it. They give directions and its important not to screw up the edge.

LTK- My Randall came with steaks. You got screwed. This company is so historic. Randall's are still carried by our troops. They don't get put on a waiting list. Also carried by astronauts and Francis Gary Powers, the U-2 pilot. Gus Grissom had one on his Mercury capsule that sunk. They brought the capsule up 50 years later and the Randall cleaned up nicely. Great brand.

I've always wanted a model 1-8 but after watching this video the knife just seems like a big F you. The lack of even a box??!!! Horrible factory edge . I have a Blackjack model 1-7 in A2 (made by bark river ) that I paid 160.00 for 15 years ago that I bet is just as good as Randall's 01 steel.
