    This is truth, not only for knives. At some price quality stops improving much and becomes a novelty, a collector's item without much application.

    Actually, great advice. If anyone is living with debt, not saving money, no matter how much you think you really want an expensive knife, is just not reasonable. I think this is the point that's being made and I couldn't agree more. There was a time when people bought things because they used them for everyday living, not to oh ah a few times and put the knife in a drawer to rarely be seen or used, doesn't make sense. Also, if you look at Randall knives website they have put stops in place to TRY to intentionally slow production, 5 year waiting, higher prices, non-transferable, non-refundable deposits. The company is at a place where their fine, they don't really have to grow or see a need to grow. It's smart marketing on their part, now they've created their market. Yes, they have nice knives, but, the higher price is what I call the "frenzy" price.

    I have the Randall #1, the Randall #14 but mine is in 0-1 and I have the single finger groove handle mine is also black micarta, the hilt is in stainless a beautiful looking knife, then I have the Randall #18 I had it made in stainless steel, this is what they told me at Randall Knives, he said mine was made in 440C, he said it depends on the 440C and the 440B, if they could get a good deal on the stainless they will use the 440C, but anyhow the difference is very slight what I think that makes Randall stainless steel, is how they take care of how they temper their steel, it's really an art and they do temper them great. As much as I enjoy my Randall's, I think Busse does an exceptional knife also, their propriety steel is their INFI Steel, excellent stuff, I luv my Sarge 7, and my Anneversary Straight Handle Battle Mistress LE, I have other's I even have a INFI Ratmandu, but anyhow, great video you did a nice job, I don't have real high end folder's and I'm more a fix blade guy, and I don't mind edc'ing with my Anneversary Mean Street LE, but I have a few folders too, I have two it's a set of Al-Mar's the Eagle and the Falcon ?, then a Cold Steel Talwar in the San Mai 3 and titanium frame, and the Black Sable same as the Talwar, and a vintage S.O.G. Tom Cat man do I like this one the lines are great a real trade mark of their Vietnam fighters but a folder great stuff, again Thanx for sharing your knives, great stuff. I have many more folder's but not in this price range, although I just thought of the Puma Emporer also a nice knife, the vintage value is high on it, they are in a safe and alarmed.

    high end knives like randalls are worth it as you may actually be able to sell them down the road for more than you paid..as long as you use it carefully and dont ever scratch it,mar it,scrape it,ding it,drop it, well basically never use it. if you want a similar knife you can just beat the bejesus out of that is also very high quality at about 1/3 the cost..,buy a Du star Arad in d2 steel

    The Sarenmu version of the Sebenza does work quite well for ($10.-15.), and you're correct these collectables will ultimately npt hold their value as high value knife demand will certainly prevail.

    I bought a j. Adams ltd MOD003 (British army knife) for £58, i paid an extra £10 for a lazer engraving. I smoothed the phosphate coating on the blade with wire wool and polished up the grind of the knife and then did a patina on the fresh metal to protect it. It is now the coolest slab of steel i have seen / used blade length is 7inches and the thickness is 6mm. The knife is full tang with a drop point, wooden handles and copper rivetts and it will last constant abuse.

    Does anyone besides me wonder if this guy can have a conversation with anyone he knows or meets without saying "this, that or the other" or "dadadadada?" You can bet your life that if he had any kids, their first words were either "mama" or "dadadadada." I clicked on this video to drool over the RM #14. But I found myself hanging on every word waiting for the next occurrence. When his voice started to raise, the expletives started to flow and he began hating on everything, I just muted him and finished drooling. It uh, kind of uh, reminded me of uh, attending uh, a company meeting uh, at work uh, that the GM uh, was speaking at uh, and used uh, a certain word uh, that totally uh, distracted everyone uh, and the message was uh, lost. Several hundred of us left the meeting completely bald; and I for one had to go to the smoke shack outside for half a pack, despite the fact that I had never previously smoked in my 54 years.

    My personal opinions about the donation Wounded Warrior Project being "worth it" due to their reputation aside, To the average person, the knives you present are beyond "high end" for the average person. They're "statement/novelty" pieces. That said, I only need two axes in my life a general utility and a splitter. If I don't rehang an old head I'm going to buy the best quality that I can reasonably afford something that Council and Gransfors fit the bill over a Fiskars or Estwing

    +Paul I think the big problem with this video is the tone he is taking. He sounds like he's decrying the pointlessness of "high end knives" when he has $1500+ worth of hypocrisy right in front of him. What I took from it, is that you don't "have" to spend insane money to get a quality blade. Something knife-knuts often forget. As for the Randall steel, their heat treat brings out more than what most people realize. They're way above the mystery 440 and "surgical steel" of Chinese blades. You don't have to go into supersteels. That said, a large chunk of the price is the reputation of the company.

    +Rusty Shackleford Hi I can't find a decent review for the model 14 that goes into specifics about the knife. You seem to have some knowledge about Randall knives so my question is about the quality of the steel and which is better 440B or 440C ?

  • @aStranger_

    @aStranger_

    8 жыл бұрын

    theTheomegaman They are more or less the same cheapo metal. The 440c is a harder metal which holds its edge a bit better, BUT that also makes it more brittle. 440b is more corrosive resistant and is usually around .75% - .95% carbon content compared to the 1% of the 440c. So in regards as for which is better, it depends on the use. If you are going to be smashing it out in the field the 440b, if its more of a display/light duty knife for finer cutting then 440c.

  • @rustyshackleford17

    theTheomegaman This is a ver reputable source who has been making knives for 30 some years: www.jayfisher.com/440C_Love_Hate.htm I would go with 440C. But you need to have a competent heat treat. Besides Randall also offers their knives in O1 which is one of my preferred steels and still one of the most common knife steels used.
