Railway Adventure

Фильм және анимация

Skarloey and Rheneas are the oldest engines on the narrow gauge railway. Things haven't always been smooth sailing for them though.
Let us step back in time to when the railway was at a crucial juncture.
Watch out for further stories from the Skarloey Railway, coming from other users soon!
This story is loosely based on the history of the Talyllyn Railway as documented by L. T. C. Rolt in his book "Railway Adventure". The culmination of almost a year's hard graft, this project was originally planned to launch back in May, then September, then... well, you get the idea. In fact, it was only signed off complete eight hours before release!
It's not just been me working on this. There are so many people who have been involved behind-the-scenes that I'd like to thank, not least my voice cast:
Skarloey - Haydn - / halfbakedhex8
Rheneas - Joe - / joe-gibbons-94
Manager - George - / sodorsnwrsteam
Rheneas' Driver - Max - / terrier55stepney
Rheneas' Fireman - Harry - / thomasandfriends1946
Skarloey's Driver - Christopher - / toppictures
Storyteller - Michael - / thomasfan8
Score composed by Jessie Ortiz
/ @esssiertiz23
"Railway with a Heart of Gold" theme covered by Sudrian Afro
/ sudrianafro
3D faces designed by JamesBond005
/ thomasmodeller1
3D faces printed by TheTrainModeller
/ thetrainmodeller
3d printed rolling stock by ElsbridgeProductions
/ elsbridgep
Further thanks must go to:
Luke - / explosivecookie - who helped with a lot of research and suggested the original book at the very start of it all.
Daniel - / tardisrescue - for answering a lot of questions about night lighting, smoke machines and sliders.
James H - / thomasthetankman111 - for the new camera recommendation, which has opened up a world of opportunities for new angles and shots.
James A - / @thejamtram - who, with several of the above, has seen various cuts throughout the year and given feedback.
Please be sure to visit the place that inspired it all.

And now I think it's time for a well-earned break.

12 years, that’s a long time to have been going, and even still we find ourselves leading new things say by day. You really have come far from the early days, and it’s an honor to be presented with yet another installment of those little engines

The set design and cinematography were on a whole new level this time, congrats on the amazing episode! The use of more realistic human models almost gives the whole thing a more railway series feel (although the tv series-esque close up human shots are equally charming). Sound design-wise it did feel like there were a couple of spots where the narration/voice acting was a little low in the mix, don't know if it was just me.

That was, outstanding, over the top, masterpiece. i’m so happy someone finally did the event that happened back in 2015, but I was definitely not expecting the second half. What a twist! Stellar set designs from that extraordinary viaduct set, the beautiful countryside, a lively works station, and the surprising gorge from season 5. And i’m guessing this takes place in 1935 or 1945 since by then the railway was facing hard ship, and it seems rheneas is still here. that’s my guess. I’m getting side tracked. Overall This was a video with a heart of gold. Keep up the outstanding great work, to all of those who have take. part in this masterpiece.

Some of these shots are incredible. The viaduct has been mentioned but the track cut in between the cliffs was awesome too! The shot was perfect and was just like a scene from TRS!

The 1958 Skarloey Railway quarry accident In July, 1958, the SKR’s number 4, “Peter Sam” was damaged in a quarry incident. During a routine lowering of trucks full of cut slate on the Skarloey Railway Quarry (see: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cable_railway), several loaded trucks were being lowered, when the cable snapped, letting the trucks roll down the hill with no braked trucks on the train. The SKR’s number 4 was struck by 6 loaded trucks. After the accident, extensive damage was done to number 4, with Peter Sam needing a replacement boiler and a new funnel, the SKR ordered a spare Geisel Ejector from the Talyllyn Railway, who’s number 4 had a Geisel Ejector funnel. The accident lead to the SKR purchasing their number 6, “Duncan”.

The 'real' models of the 'real' locos; not a cgi or - lately - a cheap cartoon imitation. The Ringo Starr and Michael Angelis versions were classics of the genre. Now the shows are just another cartoon clip with characters never even envisaged by the Rev. W Awdry.
